Awesome pics and story! -
Thank you for the update, I was getting a headache trying to make out the finer points of the deer in the original picture. Great job on an awesome buck.

You can figure out a lot about the terrain from google earth.
-
Does anybody know what causes the antlers to grow like they did on the last picutre?
-
I swear I have seen this picutre a different year. Maybe I am crazy.
-
If you are going to hold out for a new personal best each year it might be a long time before you shoot your gun again. Nice work.
-
Man, if that is a dink I would like to see the other one. Nice job.

My second great buck.....same spot as last one!

Awesome deer, thanks for the story. -
This is a good example of how perseverance pays off. I need to remember this story when I am out hunting. I tend to get pessimistic after a few days of nuttin.

so its gated again now? It was when we were there for the first rifle hunt. I assume it still is. It sucks when you go to a new area, follow directions on the azgfd website to gain access to public land and some jackwagon blocks the road. The gate didn't look very sturdy. I would recommend putting your truck in 4w low to test it.

I went with my neighbor on his hunt in the North part of the Sierrita Mountains. We saw more people than deer and didn't spot any bucks. They must have been there though because we heard a lot of shooting. The area we ended up in was a bit to crowded for my taste. I talked to a guy on a 4 wheeler and he said that some land owner blocked the main road up to the top of the mountain. He said last year the border patrol came in and knocked the gate down.

They sure are tasty, I just wish they were a little bigger. What you have on the grill right there looks like about half of what I normally bring home from the butcher.

I don't know much about bears, but that one looks BIG to me.

My fatherin law gave me a winchester .270 to give to my son when he gets old enough. The original trigger pull was ridiculously heavy. I usually like to fix things myself, but not when safety is involved. I took it to Craig and I think he did a great job for a fair price. What rifle scope do you use?

Ziess conquest 3-9x rapid z 600 reticle. I would buy another one. -
Nice buck.
-
Very cool story, congrats.
-
Sweet! Great job boys.

+++1 Try on a pair at REI and see if you like them. I thought they were pricey, but I waited until they had a garage sale and lucked out by finding a new pair that was half off.
-
I was in a similar boat with a .270 for elk. I went with a barnes all copper bullet. It shoots the best out of my gun and it penetrates further because in retains almost all of its mass after impact.
-
Wow! Check that off the bucket list.

When you have heard ALL of your hunting partners stories multiple times, but you don't interrupt him because a retold story beats silence (depending on the person).

That is a great looking deer. Congrats.

I have a bipod that pivots on my gun. I like it because it is always there ready for use, it is quick, and shooting prone off of the bipod is the most accuate for me. There are times when the terrain does not allow me to get a shot from the bipod (mine goes only to 13 inches I believe). For these shots I put the triclawps on the tripod I use to glass from. This alows me to get a steady shot anywhere from the seated to standing position.
