    Boat knowledge needed

It is a good idea to do your research. I bought a boat from a dealer as a spur of the moment type thing. I use it all the time and love it, but when I look on Craigslist and see what I could have gotten for the same money I still kick myself. I would also have a mechanic check out the motor. This year I did a full tune up and found some cylynder head bolts that had been broken off by the previous owner.

    breaking in a barrel

I forgot if this has been on this site already or not, but you might want to check it out. After this break in procedure you can watch the guy fire the gun and it is dead on. The proof is in the pudding.

    Bit The Bullet

I use to have two before I sold them. They were really nice scopes. . . no complaints.
  4. 2 archery misses- one from misjudging distance, one from being rushed. 1 rifle cow elk- had my rifle sighted in for 200 before I had a rangefinder. Put the cross hair right on and paced the shot off at 315 yards. Bought a range finder right when I got home. As far as actual "buck fever" I have never had anything big enough to qualify. Hopefully I get some buck fever this year.

    Wanted: Old bow sight

I bought an Alpine target bow I am planning to set up as my bow fishing rig. It is bare bones right now so I have to pick up a sight and a cable slide. All I need is a circular housing with one fiber optic pin, so I am not looking to spend a lot of money. I imagine I can pick up a new entry level sight at sportsmans for around $30.

    Which 15's are you running?

Wish I could vote. I think I will have to win the lottery first.

An interesting question for you all...

I would wait and see how the hunt goes. After a couple of uneventful days I always find my lofty expectations of a trophy have been downgraded to anything with antlers. If you don't see any bulls for the first few days and could still pass on a 300 bull, you are much more patient than me. Good luck with your hunt.

    Spring Break Madness Senko Style!!

I see a couple of future bass fish show hosts. You got me to watch a couple of your 12 minute videos and I was taking notes the way you were pulling em in. Nice work.

    2011 elk/Antelope tags

Unit 10 cow elk for me! I don't know how the people who accumulate all of these bonus points can stand not hunting elk for years on end while they wait for the premo bull tag.

    T/C icon vs. Savage

Out of those two I would go Savage. I was in a similar spot as you, but had it narrowed down to Tikka and Savage. I went Tikka and am happy with my choice.

    Roosevelt Crappie 2/24/11

Time for a dumb dumb question. I have seen many crappie reports where they used a bbc or john deer. What are they?

    You Decide...

Well that should be the end of this thread. That sums it up pretty well as far as I am concerned.

    You Decide...

It is not fair to say that nobody should shoot over 500yds, but it is safe to say the people in the video should stick to 100yds or closer. You would think some of them would have gotten a clue that they were launching hail maries after missing 5 or 6 times in a row. It was almost comical to see how low that one guy was consistently hitting.

I just wanted to take minute to thank

Just curious as to what clues led you to a possible suspect? Have you confronted them, or do you plan on doing so? I wish you good luck in recovering your rifle and catching the dirt bag.

    New rifel

I wrestled with what caliber to go with just last year. I think there are a lot of good options out there, but my advice is to spend a couple of months doing research to make absolutly sure of what you want before you buy. I changed my mind at least a couple of times before I ended up with a .270. Nothing is worse than discovering a gun you absolutely have to have after you have already spent all your money on one you are no longer happy with. I didn't do it with my gun, but did buy a boat from a dealer on a whim. Now I kick myself when I look on the internet and see someone selling twice the boat for the same amount of money. If you decide to go BIG, I would check out the 338 edge as well. Some of the posts I have read involving that caliber are pretty impressive.

    Urban predator calling

I have not done any predator hunting, although trying to call in the javalina that live in the wash behind my house is on my to do list. I just don't want to end up being the dumb a$$ that ends up in the newspaper after they attack and send me to the emergency room.

    Should Mama go hunting?

I thought about it some more and decided you shouldn't do it. If your kid comes out cross-eyed you would always have to wonder if it was from shooting the gun.

    Should Mama go hunting?

Does she shoot a bow? I think you can use them on a firearm hunt and that would get rid of the shock wave issue.

    suggestion to azgfd

The fact I am posting this means I once again sucked it up on the javalina archery hunt. I submitted this suggestion to the azgfd. It seemed like a good idea to me, but was wondering if peolpe saw some cons I didn't think of. I think the following change regarding javalina tags would be beneficial. Three days before the javalina rifle season a hunter could bring an unused javalina archery tag into a game and fish office and purchase a left over javalina rifle tag. I listed what I believe to be the pros. 1) The number of javalina tags being sold is below what the department has calculated for healthy herds. This would allow hunters to help the game and fish meet its quota for the number of pigs taken each year. 2) Selling an additional rifle tag to unsuccessful javalina archery hunters would generate more income for azgfd. 3) Additional money would be generated for businesses around the state. 4) All hunters who did not participate in the archery hunt would have ample time to purchase a leftover tag before archery hunters could buy a second tag. 5) Hunters would still only be able to harvest one javalina per year. The other option would be to just have an open archery javalina season similar to the current setup for deer. Thank you for reading my suggestion.

    Almost

When I first moved to Arizona I went quail hunting and came across a javalina in a wash that stood broadside at 10 yards until I shooed him off. I thought, man they would be easy to kill with a bow. After nearly two seasons of trying to accomplish that "easy" task with my bow, I thought I was finally going to get it done yesterday. I had seen a group of 15 or so does and a nice 4x4 mule deer go over a ridge into a big wash. I went over the other side to try and locate them. I made my way down to the wash and came across some very fresh javalina poop. I shifted hunting modes and started to follow javalina tracks until I kicked one up in some thick stuff. He stopped at 30 yds, but it was just ot thick to shoot. I went up the hill on the side of the to see if I could locate the javelina and ended up glassing some of the does in the wash I had seen earlier. I decided to change modes again and creep up the wash towards the deer in hopes of finding the buck. When I started out the wind was right in my face. I got to within 70 yds and they bolted. They seemed curious and doubled back to check me out. They all went by me at 60 yds, but the buck wasn't with them. I thought all of the does had passed when I noticed some movement I hoped was the buck. I lifted my binoculars up to see three javalina walking straight down into the wash. I think they would have passed me at about 40 yards if they continued on their original line of travel. I got the "this is it" feeling in my stomach, which is the reason I hunt. That feeling quickly dies as the wind shifted and started blowing directly towards them. I am starting go get frustrated, but am holding out hope for my last hunting day on Monday. I would rather shoot a deer with my bow, but for some reason my heart starts pumping faster when I see javalina. I think it is because they seem like a more attainable goal. Good luck to everyone else still trying to seal the deal.

    Congresswoman Giffords shot

Jared Loughner's hate came before the Tea Party By Marc Thiessen Today's Washington Post reports: [T]wo law enforcement sources said that FBI agents had found a 2007 letter from Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) to the shooting suspect, with the words "Die, bitch" and "Die, cops" scrawled on it. The letter, which thanked [Jared] Loughner for attending an event of hers, was found in a safe in his Tuscon home, the sources said. In 2007, there was no Tea Party movement and Sarah Palin was the obscure, recently elected governor of Alaska. If anything, the overhead heated political rhetoric at the time was coming from the left and was directed largely at President George W. Bush. It is time for all those whose reflexive reaction was to capitalize on this tragedy by blaming their political opponents (eg. the New York Times editorial page, the Daily Kos and Paul Krugman) to start issuing some apologies. They can start with Sarah Palin.

    Congresswoman Giffords shot

I also thought the article was good up until the Tea Party theory. I don't like how everyone feels they have to find someone else to blame, other than the person who pulled the trigger. I believe the underlying reason people blame one political party is to advance their own political interest. He was not right wing, he was not left wing, he was insane. Maybe someone is to blame for the way he turned out. I can guarantee it was not someone talking over the radio or television. He was damaged long before he knew a thing about politics.

    I Want A Refund!!!

If you really want to find out where the javalina are, buy a deer tag for that unit. You will not see a single deer but you will find out where multitudes of piggies are. Then when you buy your javalina tag for the following year you will see nothing but deer. Then you have yourself a good unit for both, depending on how delusional you are. You can always head afield hopeful, knowing that you have seen javi's and deer there in the past. Hope this helps, it works for me.
