    Slik 700dx $75

I bought a mefotto tripod. The tripod itself is under three pounds and folds up 9 inches shorter than the Manfrotto 055, or 11 inches shorter than the slik 700. I can't stand and glass with my new one, but I never did much of that anyways. I did like the feel of that slik tripod, and almost kept it. I got a good deal on it, and there are a couple of other toys I have on my list right now. I may buy another one used in the future.

    Slik 700dx $75

This would make a great truck tripod. It extends to 74 inches, which makes it perfect for most anyone not playing in the NBA. If you need a head I have a mefotto ball head that is pretty slick that I will through in for an extra $10. The head is brand new. Call Rob at 520-six09-two924.
  3. I probably didn't give it a fair shake, but I don't think blind hunting is my cup of tea. I bought this blind for Christmas this year and had is set up one time. I also bought a Timber Ridge three legged blind chair. I will sell both for $85. The blind is a Realtree pattern. Call Rob at 520-six09-two924.

    kifaru packs

I am in the initial stages of starting to check these out. Is there anywhere close Tucson you can go to try one of these on? For how much they cost I am a little hesitant to drop the cash without making sure it fits well. Any experience with them would be appreciated.

    Rivers Edge Tree Stand

It worked the last time I used it. . . . . in college. It is a Rivers Edge Big Foot Lounger XL. $20 to the first person who wants to pick it up in Tucson. Call Rob at 520-six09-two924.

    Cot Pad Question

Ever since I got one of these I sleep better in the back of my suburban than I do in my own bed. http://www.amazon.com/Shikibuton-Trifold-density-resilient-Folding/dp/B004107WB0/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1391834754&sr=8-6&keywords=trifold+mat

    Spotting scope?

If you don't already have big binoculars I would get those first, unless you are a trophy hunter who wants to access a trophy from long distance to save yourself miles of hiking. I went with a spotting scope first and hated looking through it for any period of time. After getting Kaibab's glassing became much more fun.

    Which Pack??

It was a little high on the price for me too. Definitely had some pucker factor to click the button completing my order. I took a little sting out of it by selling two of my old packs first. I am always in a cycle of buying then selling and upgrading. If I just went straight to the final product right off the bat I would save myself a lot of money, but buying and selling is half the fun. I have accepted the fact that I am a gear junkie. It gives me something to do when it is not hunting season. I had better be careful, or my wife is going to request I go to counseling to "cure" this addiction.

    Which Pack??

I just ordered the Kifaru timberline 1. It is 7200 cubic inches, but only weights a few ounces more than the timberline 2 which is 5200 cubic inches. I was originally going to go with the 2, but I read quite a few reviews of people who bought the 2 and wish they had gone with the 1. There is hardly a weight penalty and they compress down to the same size for a day hunt. You might not ever need the extra volume of the 1, but it is there if you do. It is easy to compress a pack down but you can't make them grow.

    Arizona Backpacking?

There is some water in the area I go for coues some of the time. To be on the safe side and have a manageable pack weight while hunting you have to haul in some water and hide it before the season.

    Superbowl

I was originally going to pull for the Broncos, but after hearing Richard Sherman's inspirational and eloquent post game interview I have decided to root for the Seahawks. Peyton Manning should take some notes from him before taking the podium again. Should be a good game anyways.

    Superbowl

The last time there was a super bowl that was this bad was 1985, but I enjoyed that quite a bit more at the ripe age of six since I was raised a Bears fan.

    Slik or promaster or outdoorsmans

I don't have experience with all of the tripods recommended, but I do know I am liking the Mefoto Roadtrip I just bought. I didn't think I would like twist locks, but it turns out I find them to be faster than my old set up and they feel solid. It is also much quieter to pull the legs out than my old tripod. It isn't tall enough for me to glass through standing (6 foot 3), but I found I didn't do that much anyways. About 95% of my glassing is from the sitting position, which requires me to deploy one or two of the leg sections from the roadtrip. I noticed some give to it with all five leg sections out, but with only two it is rock solid. I almost bought a manfrotto carbon fiber tripod that weighed half a pound more, was six inches longer when folded, and did the exact same thing when in the sitting position for an extra $130. Then I asked myself why and went with the road trip. It folds down to 15 inches, supports a max load of 18 lbs, is under three pounds, and is a very good backpacking setup in my estimation.

    4-12x40 or 3-9x40?

I think higher magnification is nice if you dial your turrets for longer shots. The rapid z reticle on my conquest is only accurate at 8.5 power on my 9x scope based on my bullet and muzzle velocity. I am just saying that if you are using a bullet drop compensation reticle you might not get to use all of your magnification. I would say my 9x scope is great out to 500 yards, which is as far as I will shoot anyways.

Brand new Kuiu Icon 5000 SOLD

That is a good deal. I would be taking a hard look at it if I didn't just sell my left kidney to order a kifaru timberline 1.
  22. So I was poking around for a tripod that would fold down smaller than my current one, which is 24 inches long at its smallest, but was still sturdy for backpacking trips. I stumbled across a tripod called the mefoto roadtrip. It folds down to about 15 inches, goes up to a max height of 61 inches, is rated with a 17.6 load capacity, and weighs 3.6 lbs with the head included for $189. Another cool feature is one of the legs screws off and can be attached to the center column to make a monopod. I read through a bunch of reviews and couldn’t really find much that was negative on amazon ((75) 5-star, (23) 4-star, (3) 3-star, (0) 2-star, (0) 1-star) but I couldn’t find anything specifically from hunters. I think it is a fairly new product. I found I don’t really glass much standing up, so I don’t care much about the max height. All of the other specs for this tripod look great. Does anybody have any experience with them? Here is a little youtube review of them. I must admit that I didn’t mind watching the presenter tell me about the tripod.

    Anybody heard of mefoto tripods?

Well, I just pulled the trigger. Dang, amazon makes it way to easy to buy things! I will do a little reveiw when I get it .

    Anybody heard of mefoto tripods?

The main advantage of the roadtrip over the slik tripod you posted is its maximum payload rating it almost double. Considering I might end up shooting off of it that is important to me.

Recommend me a new sleeping bag!

Wait until an REI garage sale. I got an REI brand down 0 degree bag for around half off, and it kept me nice an toasty in the Colorado snow on my last elk hunt. If I don't need something right away I like to look around for a deal, but I am a cheap son of a B*#%&.
