Thanks all. I don't know what I will do with the meat yet. I have never had bear so I thought I would try a stew first and go from there as to what to do. A bunch of you seem to be interested in the rifle. I just finished her up last spring. She shoots very well. Recoil is....manageable?... I would say it kicks about like a factory ultra with the plastic stock. Keeping in mind that I have a huge break on it and it weighs upwards of 15lbs. I don't think I am going to carry that thing into another canyon. My next build is going to be a titanium action built similar to a BAT, #2 contour barrel chambered in either 6.5x47 lapua or 6.5x300wsm. All will be atop an edge stock from McMillan. Don't forget a 6.5x20 from leupold. Also, does anyone know a good taxidermist in town to get this bear tanned?

I just checked her in and they have 6 sows now in 23s. They aged her at 6 to 7. This is the most sows killed on the first hunt weekend in 4 years.

I have shot 105's and 115's out of my 6mmbr with a 1 in 9 and it shoots great. 3" groups at the rams (547yds)

Thanks. The rifle action is custom built by me. Based on a remington/nesica/lawton. BIG. I put a 32in Lilja barrel on it and chambered it in 338 snipe tac. Not built to shoot as close as I did, but I wasn't going to back up that's where she was. I have a McMillan A-3 stock, bedded topped with a 8.5-25 leupold lrt. I am pushing a 300gr Berger at 3100fps with 127gr of 50BMG. I can't wait to smack a whitetail with it.

How many points did you have. I put in for that first and Oct 2nd with 4pts and got Oct.

I have only spent around 40 or 50 days in the unit in the last 5 years, and have seen that twice. I have not seen it since 2009. So maybe they are gone.I have never seen it happen in any other unit. With 3c being so accessable and easy to drive, I assume there would be more there. Not trying to offend anyone, just expressing my concerns.

They sell LOTS more stocks than guns.

Looks nice. I used your calls this season with mixed results. I love the sound, they are very realistic. The birds sometimes agreed with me.

As far as I can tell, the only issue with 3c as a trophy unit, is the local poachers. I have seen some good deer in there during elk and spring turkey, but I also saw some, what I would call poaching activity. No season, long caravan's of jeeps and samuri's with spotlights and ar's. You tell me.

Where in 3c are you going to shoot that far? I had that tag 4 years ago and I would figure 150yds MAX. Its lots of fun. You would be better off practicing shooting at 75, 100, and 150 off hand, kneeling and leaning against something. Sounds silly, but when was the last time you had a screaming bull running at you 80 yds away? I was so high on adrenaline that I flew one right over that 390. But if you insist, burger 210 95gr retumbo.

I saw 2 does in the bottom of the wash from the 101 in November at the 101 just north of T-Bird. Had to do a doubble take.
