Is shooting at a 110 buck and shooting comp the same stress? No. I shoot long range and Silhouette high power and small bore. Its much more stressful to have a deer in you scope. That being said, shooting competitively forces you to develop trigger control, breathing and being comfortalble behind a rifle. I would recomend it to everyone, very humbling.

Smack the ends of the holes with a pin punch. Put the bolt on a piece of wood first, use a pointed punch and a small hammer, you won't hurt it. Just don't smack it like your trying to drive a rr spike in with one shot. All you need to do essentially is deform the i.d. of the hole so that the pin will have some tension on it. Your other option is getting another pin. You should be able to get a roll pin at Ace or Copper State that will work. I think it is a 1/16 pin.

I am interested in the trailer. I am NOT interested in the price. I check out craigslist every day for a trailer as I am in need of one, and your price is no deal. However, most of us here on CW tend to be helpful to one another. I just wanted to let you know that if you get in a bind and need the cash let me know. Your welcome.

If you get to $600, or just want to get it out of your hair, let me know. That's where I would be interested.

Great bear Jack! I wish I was there for your second also, maybe the third. Thanks again for all of your help.

Great story and a nice bear to boot. Congrats!

Lol, yeah, I would use a 223 over a 338 pushing a 300 gr pill any day, lol. I'd flinch so bad, I'd be spraying shots all over the hillside, they'd have to rename it lead canyon! Big calibers=flinching= misses or bad shots. And I know, I know, not all the time, was just my opinion. Never said I have problem with big guns, just not something I would use. And, to get back to the original question, no, a 300 wthrby is not too big for coues. HAHA. Yes you are going to be more susceptuible to flinching with big guns that kick. One should not attempt such a thing without training to shoot heavy recoil guns. I agree. As far as the bigger guns destroying the animal, your bullet selection will determine that. That bear I just shot with the berger just passed thru. Passed thru both shoulders and the spine, but the enterance and exit holes were the same size. Its more or the shockwave that is destructive than the actual bullet.

AR15 AK47 SKS I think he is saying there is no such thing. This is why I won't hunt down there, if they cross with a weapon it is an act of war and I would shoot them.

Congrats on a nice bear.

Is the goal to kill stuff? Its gonna be just as dead. Whats the problem with using a big gun? I'm shooting a 300gr 338 at mine this year. You could kill one with a 223, would you want to?

WOW! looks like you got 3 REALLY nice bucks there!
-
Congrats!! Love the hat, I have the same one!!
-
Why does it take forever to get a score from you guys? Do you have to wait for them to get bigger?
-
WOW. Nice buck. I love when they carry mass all the way up like that. It doesn't hurt that he's also long and has that cool heart shape. Way to go.

Congrats. What is he, 89ish?

08/18/2012 CA Archery Bear Hunt Story & Pictures
AZkiller replied to bear402's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Congrats! Great story, I wish that I had that ability. It sounds like it was a fun yet a little spookey hunt. I know I would have been freaked out! -
Just let me know where the deer is and I'll see if he wants to shoot it.

Well, considering I built the action myself, chambered it myself, built the muzzel break myself, my dad bed the stock. I would say that I have, with the scope included, about $1800 or so in it.

Thanks all. I don't know what I will do with the meat yet. I have never had bear so I thought I would try a stew first and go from there as to what to do. A bunch of you seem to be interested in the rifle. I just finished her up last spring. She shoots very well. Recoil is....manageable?... I would say it kicks about like a factory ultra with the plastic stock. Keeping in mind that I have a huge break on it and it weighs upwards of 15lbs. I don't think I am going to carry that thing into another canyon. My next build is going to be a titanium action built similar to a BAT, #2 contour barrel chambered in either 6.5x47 lapua or 6.5x300wsm. All will be atop an edge stock from McMillan. Don't forget a 6.5x20 from leupold. Also, does anyone know a good taxidermist in town to get this bear tanned?

Thank you. It was alot of fun.

I just checked her in and they have 6 sows now in 23s. They aged her at 6 to 7. This is the most sows killed on the first hunt weekend in 4 years.
