Where is it located? Tried to send pm
-
I tried to avoid the valley as much as possible but I do get down there every once in a while. I have a few other people interested in some if you are not sure if you will make it or not. So keep me posted and I'll see if I have enough to share if we haven't met up

I'm not in the east valley but can probably get some to you. I have a partial opened 1lb and barely opened 8lber if you don't mind dipping into it. Just opened in Sept 565 is what I have

Often times if a female with kittens can't get the animal to the kittens or kittens to the animal it will keep killing not understanding of course that they are all locked up. Happens up here with friends of mine from time to time.

Start new guide service or guide for an outfit?
WHT_MTNMAN replied to couesaddict13's topic in The Campfire
Talk with your accountant. I've had my guides license for 10 or 15 years off and on and have never guided for money, but we can always figure out ways to write off some amount of gear, fuel etc...Even if you took 1 client a year you can take a loss and get a lot of gear written off.. I bet you can "contract" out to an outfitter and write-off more than you think. -
Start new guide service or guide for an outfit?
WHT_MTNMAN replied to couesaddict13's topic in The Campfire
I have helped a bunch of guides and outfitters over the years and without knowing your guiding history, my opinion would be to start guiding for an outfitter. Mainly for these reasons 1. Don't have to worry about permits, Insurance etc... 2. It takes quite a few clients to build an outfitting business with draw odds these days. Unless you have a few dozen clients on stand by it will take a few years to build enough repeat clients and friends of those clients to keep an outfitting business busy. 3. Again unless you have a few really close clients with money that will hire you when they draw, not too many people will drop money on a new outfitter. Most people want to see a strong past history of getting their clients good animals. Not just one or two possibly lucky years. 4. It's one thing to be a good hunter another to be a good guide. You will have to put up with some serious babysitting. If you don't like it or don't want to keep doing it you haven't invested much more than some fuel and the cost of your guides license. I'm sure I'm missing some, those are the first things that came to mind.. -
I liked him..and almost got a shot
-
Haha. No ninja here. If you spend enough time you are bound to get lucky at some point...

Not that I'm aware of. I needed a bull to come 15 more yards and I could have shot at one the same distance i ended up killing mine.. We figured he was 365-75" hind sight I should have shot at him when he was within my effective range but closer is always better right???

Question about Berger Hybrids
WHT_MTNMAN replied to maximus's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
This is my opinion only but you need to know the game you are shooting at and what caliber you are shooting to determine shot placement. If i was to shoot a 25 caliber into the shoulder of a bull elk at 1000 yards I doubt I would get the penetration I would want, so I would most likely shoot bigger caliber or shoot the bull in the lungs. Which I think my 25 sst would be ok for an Elk at long range. Not ideal but ok. With my 300 ultra with 210+ grains I would shoot for shoulder on elk that far, try to break a leg and push through to lungs, but I would most likely shoot a Coues in the lungs at anything under 200 or risk losing a bunch of meat. If you know and apply some of that info I believe that the Berger is an outstanding choice for most applications. It doesn't matter what bullet you use if you hit brisket or a pass through in the flanks, or guts you may lose an animal. -

Question about Berger Hybrids
WHT_MTNMAN replied to maximus's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Ive used both, right now I'm using a hybrid target 135 gr in 25 caliber. They have worked absolutely awesome. It has killed one bull at 360, coyotes from 230-500, 4 coues deer 220-600 and mule deer at 840 Worked really well in all circumstances. I'll upload pics of some -
All but one guy killed in 3 days and I hate keeping people waiting so when I saw 5 points on his right side and his mass it didnt take me long to pull the trigger... Quality is poor because of low light Also another cat killed

I dare you to count on that and try it again. I had a similar thing happen in Canada. I have been to old mexico many times and so I knew the rules and paperwork I needed to have in order. When I was bringing my son's bear back from Canada I told them I needed to declare a bear hide and skull and the lady looked at me like I was crazy and then just let me through, I didn't have to show anything. That doesn't happen often.

coues deer Drop tine coues deer
WHT_MTNMAN replied to Pharmerboy's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I have a drop hook beam buck. I've talked with quite a few taxidermist that never saw one like it. I passed on a 90s buck with a 5" drop my buddy killed. I regret that one a bit. -
Keep doing what you are doing. Keep practicing, keep stalking and it will work out. If you have never killed a buck spot and stalk it takes quite a few tries and lots of effort before it happens. Once the 1st one happens they come in bunches. For a while nothing goes right and then nothing can go wrong. Back in 2006 or 2007 I missed a 110+ coues at 40 yards and a 175+ mule deer buck at 47. 7 days apart. Took years for that sting to stop. When I first started I figured it took 5 stalks before I got a shot. When I was hunting a lot of OTC I got to the point I got a shot about half of the stalks I did. Missed a lot still but had the opportunity

Yeah I actually met and knew of 6 of the tag holders. One guy had killed 3 bucks over 200" and was from out of state. He never found anything he liked. Saw a big 3x4 that was supposedly around 180" killed. Saw a 4x4 with an extra with heavy mass that was supposed to be around 181 or 182" . Saw couple good 4points killed around 160ish and a big wide 3x3. Not what many were hoping for this hunt. The big ones are there but it was difficult to find them after they started moving to look for does.

I wish he had some length on his g2s. Very unique buck for sure
-
That's the buck I would have shot as time was winding down. Cool big ol frame. I saw 2 or 3 others that were pretty big. I got some long distance footage but no pictures to speak of.
