Well my daughter got engaged and he is frugal, a hard worker and wants to take care of her. In this world that is some very good news.

I was going to post but wasn't for certain. I dropped some 257 BOB reloading stuff off beginning of the year and he didn't want me to see him. He was in poor health and felt embarrassed He didn't return my texts or calls so I stopped by and didn't get an answer. RIP. BLJ

G&F commission voted unanimously to ban trail cams
WHT_MTNMAN replied to huntlines's topic in The Campfire
yeah seriously, all of the cameras I use regularly are in 3c, (i usually run them to see horn growth, and have something to do May-August) I haven't drawn an elk tag since 2010 in 3c and havent' drawn a deer tag since 1994 in 3c. I don't see a problem at all but who knows. -

I usually make sure I buy everything I need for the weekend so I can stay home and not deal with weekend masses, but I may have to just come by.

I should have some stuff I'll look this evening when I get home.

IMO the only way it will hurt the outfitters and guides are with auction and raffle tags. Maybe not even that since they can pay a lot more people to be in the woods.

Maybe not on the strip or unit 9 or maybe even for elk at all, but what about all the Coues/mule deer that got killed on water this year and all of the last year?. Most of the successful archery deer hunters that I've seen the last few years were because of water and cameras. Rifle can be a different story. Of course I don't have any real research on that but a lot of observation. The guys that decide they want to kill a deer can set up cameras in june and july, check once or twice sit a tank or salt and kill a deer in August or Sept. It is those guys that will suffer, guides and outfitters will just spot light and run up and down the roads more and spend more time than the before said DIY guy that went out 2x.

I saw a couple of boxes up here.. kinda high priced but what isn't. Let me know if you want me to pick something up for you. I believe they had some 12 and 20.

So I do agree that some guides may have caused the problem, but I seriously doubt that most of the guides and outfitters will ignore the rule if/when it takes place, but no doubt some will.

The few cameras that I used were never on water, they always got stolen, In the last 10 years I've had probably less than 5 maybe only 3 people show up on my cameras. To me personally a camera has never been part of my "real" scouting. I know a bunch of people that used them in that way just not me personally. I use them to take pictures and something to check in the summer before my scouting begins. I sure enjoy seeing what the animals look like in my area that year.

So back in the good ol days before trail cameras, spot lighting all night long was how a bunch of big critters got killed. Some legal and some not legal. But to me the argument that pressure will decrease if we ban cameras is invalid. I personally believe it and have seen just the opposite. But I digress, I love getting pictures and checking cameras during the summer but I'll be out as much as I can with or without cameras. I'm one of those on the side that it will hurt the "average" hunter more than anyone.

10mm for grizzly bear defense
WHT_MTNMAN replied to bojangles's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
I was in the exact boat two years ago. I've spent my whole life in the woods and was never worried about lions or bears or anything really But after seeing 9 kodiak bears in one day, being within 25 yards of a probably 8.5-9ft sow and cub with a semi bluff charge standing, staring me down and with only my bow for protection and seeing them follow the blood/gut trail to within 20 yards of me last year even when I stood up and shouted with little to no concern. I have a new appreciation for being prepared on Kodiak. I don't care about the caliber but I want something on me besides my bow for sure. If I was carrying a rifle I wouldn't care as much. my go to set up for AK is my Glock 19x (20 rounds) on a Kenai chest rig. If I'm being attacked for some stupid reason, 20 rounds makes me feel pretty good. I got that after my first bear encounter 2 years ago. Thankfully didn't have to use it last year.
