First off you need to understand I don't have any hate for A3. I respect what they do and the animals they kill. I understand the anger they had when the whole camera thing happened. I'm fine with that. I've taken care of what happened with A3. I'm friends with a lot of their guides. What I don't respect is people claiming to be perfect law abiding citizens tearing into me that then get caught red handed guiding and killing bulls on the rez a month after the incident. And another incident that involved the same A3 golden boy on the reservation AGAIN. You like to always bring up the family aspect of it yet there's certain situations you have put yourself in that aren't any better than some situations I've put myself in. But I won't get into details on those because I know you know which one I'm talking about. So don't think I'm commenting that this bull is smaller than what they say it is just because it's A3. But I have spoken personally to a certain taxidermist that has scored bulls after their scores and they are off by more than a few inches. You said it yourself if a bull is 410 why would anyone ever think they needed to add inches to a bull like that? That's an amazing bull anywhere anytime. Yet certain individuals still add all kinds of inches to an already amazing bull just so they are that much cooler. I'm still not sure why the obsession with said A3 golden boy but sooner or later it's all gonna come out and he's gonna bring down more than a few people with him. So that's where I stand on A3. I don't hate them, I simply disagree with the way they and certain guides of theirs are off doing things worse than stealing a camera and at the same time want to crucify the guy that did everything in his power to make it right after it happened. But I understand you're friends with them so you'll stick with them til the end. But just remember this post when your buddy goes down. As for being a firefighter in the public eye I didn't know they disagreeing with an elk score was something the public cared about. I'll be more careful from now on. I will never condone illegal activities from you, or anyone else, even and especially my friends. That being said you accusing me of wrong doing is a different breed. Please call me (you have had my # for many years, unless you changed yours) I can and will tolerate anyone that makes a mistake and owns up to, I applaud you for that, but I have not and will not put myself in a position of illegal activity. I agree with that. I've always used score to friends to help in judging just how big a buck is but it has all come down to "showing off" inches. It isn't what it should be about.

Blake- I have heard all of the stories of you and your buds there in Heber for many many years, some I'm sure dramatized and some not. I've known some of the info on you and your stealing cameras. I've seen parts of your "confession" video and still I have never said a thing. Never! I have never wanted to make it personal between you and I because we have lots of common friends and family. I am completely against the lynch mob mentality and I sure was hoping that you made a mistake, made amends and we can all move on, but man you are making it tough. I still am so confused on why you talk so much? Why do you act like it wasn't a big deal?( the cameras) Does it really matter if it was 424" or 430". ?? or heck even 410 . I know you hate A3 because they are the ones that caught you, and yes I understand that, but man come on. You have a lot going for you, great family, wife and child etc.. friends that do care about you and I know this is just the internet and maybe a place for you to vent but really??? You are a firefighter!! Whether you want to or not you are in the public eye. Please for the sake of your family chill just a little bit.

But they will lose 10-15 additional inches when the bull is scored by someone other than the guides that killed it. everyone can heckle me but I don't see 425"It was scored by an official measurer. Of course it isn't official in any way but at least he knew what he was doing. In the field they got 422. Later it was scored at 425.How about Wilbur? What did the taxidermist score him at after they got 430 in the Field? Definitely didn't come up with 430". I believe it was in the low 420's. Not really that much different than you being off over 4" on your 200" deer. Try more in the 410 range or a taxidermist that scored it just made it up. Green score of 204 with an official score of 200 inches 60 days later isn't even in the same ballpark as 15-20 inches on a bull. And also im not ashamed to post up what he officially scored once I found out. I just got word it was 424" so yeah 410 is close enough, you do know about everything, and yeah I was there. It was every bit as big

Every once in a while I set these cheap cameras to video just to capture something different. Sorry about the poor music and poor editing. I didn't even care or even try to make it acceptable. I did it just for fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVfK3_iQ6E8

Awesome buck...good,luck

On my goat hunt last year they saved me a broken leg. I bent one pole pretty bad, I don't always use them but when I'm planning on extended heavy backpack trips they are worth their weight. I have a pair of black diamond.

IMO please stay away from Vortex. I hate to be debbie downer all the time but for under 1k you will not get a good vortex. You can find better in that price range. I don't have any experience in the 1k+ Vortex scopes.

I have a 3200 and could work out a trade/cash if you are interested. Mine is solid colors.

has there even been 1 good buck killed on that hunt since it came about? like 170+ or even a 150 I've seen some in the 70s and maybe low 80s and a few cool character bucks, but overall it is tough for me to justify 5 or 6 points on this hunt. Most of the pictures you will see are 150" bucks that are photogenic and look bigger..rifle especially.

Just be realistic about your chances. I do not have a ton of experience up there but I believe that if you hunt hard and don't give in to the depression that low deer densities can give you, I think you should be able to harvest a 180-200" deer with a chance of getting lucky and killing a giant on your own. If you want to be chasing bigger a guide is probably your best bet.

They run very close in size. I have a pair of 11.5 that are just a bit too big. I usually wear an 11. Great boot probably my favorite of all time and I've had 2 pair of Kenetrek, Vasque, all kinds of Merrill and Danner etc...

I don't see Chad. Ronnie and Derek and someone I don't know, and the hunter

I think 6 was guaranteed for archery 3c pretty tough and not worth 6 IMO
-
I'm up to 9 and have only put in for 13b archery the last 2 years. I am in no mans land also. I have at least 4 more years before I can expect an archery strip tag. At some point you need to decide how long you want to wait. You are at least 2 maybe 3 years away from a decent tag like a late Coues or 3a3c etc.. and quite a bit more for Kiabab and Strip. I hunt every year in Mx and Archery and trying to do UT, or CO so I have decided I want to wait. It really sucks though.

From what I have seen it doesn't matter what bullet you use if you hit only hide. I've seen AB, partition,Barnes etc..leave pencil holes when they miss ribs, bone. That is why I aim for the shoulder. I've had quite a bit less meat loss with Berger than with many other bullets. My results may not be the norm but I usually have them penetrate and break the shoulder, absolutely destroy the insides and stop short of damaging much of the meat on the far shoulder. Just my experience. The only time I've seen them "fail" is with a gut shot. ( not me) but not many bullets can compensate for poor shot placement. That is another reason to shoot the most accurate bullet in your rifle whatever that may be.
-
I shoot a 210 Berger out of my 300 ultra and a 140 out of my 280ai. Great results from over 1000 yards to 80 yards. My wife shot a coues buck at 80 yards and there was a hole the size of 2 softballs out the neck. (Quartered away) Shots over 300 yards rarely exit with either caliber. I love a bullet that will dump all of its energy inside the animal.

7mm-08 vs 6.5 creedmoor
WHT_MTNMAN replied to bonecollector777's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Well since Lark isn't around anymore, it needs to be said by someone. 6.5 Creedmoor 7mm-08 just sounds like a woman's cartridge -
Years ago some of the depredation hunts were for ANY elk. Not sure if that hunt is the same. I found a great big ol velvet bull for my buddy that had a similar hunt but he was about 1/2 mile away and the bull was moving out of the hunt area. We ate the tag but it would have been very cool to shoot a big ol velvet bull.
