    Bergers FAILED me horribly

I love a 210 berger out of my 300 ultra. If you hit any animal in the correct spot it will be devastating. I think the only downside is that since it dumps all the energy into the animal it doesn't leave a very good blood trail. Which is usually a moot point since the animals die in their tracks.

    Dream Mountain Goat Hunt!!

Ever since I was a young man, I wanted to "see and hunt the world". Mountain Goat, Dall Sheep, Kodiak Brown bear were on that list. This year I was able to head to AK after mountain goat. Specifically Kodiak Island. It was an awesome trip and a great time. After many hours on many different planes we landed at our base camp, immediately we took off for spike camp almost 4 hours away, since another storm was moving in. I had great hopes of shooting a goat with my bow, but because of the time off work, and expense, I was not going to come home empty handed if at all possible. After almost 4 days of sitting in a tent in the fog, snow, rain, hail I decided if the weather would cooperate I would use the guides gun to shoot a goat. I packed my bow everywhere and could have shot a nanny if I had so desired. Finally the weather cooperated and I shot this billy in very cold conditions. Nothing burns up there at all so we had to suffer without a fire or anything to keep us warm except for hiking and warm liquids. Almost 15 hours of dark made for some long days. I had a insight on this hunt that I would like to share, If you don't care than just skip to the pictures, they are pretty cool. I realized that all those vast, hopes and dreams of hunting all over the world have left me, all of the great hunts that I could sacrifice to go on, no longer draw me. I have come to realize the sacrifice to do these hunts have taken me away from the things I love most: 1. My family, as much as enjoyed this hunt, until my children are gone, very few of these hunts will be in my schedule, it was tough, dangerous and I worried almost daily about my life insurance, my family being taken care of etc... this may sound trite but for me it was the truth. My young family is such that I am still needed, maybe not wanted all the time but needed. 2. hunting, helping friends and family on hunts etc... I missed my yearly helping a buddy on some elk hunts, one of my real good friends had a Coues hunt we were excited about and I was only able to help scout one time. (I took a bear and felt selfish about that) So far I missed many other hunts that I normally would have done because I felt I needed to work as much as possible before I left to AK. I sacrificed a great hunt in Wy again because I had limited amount of time. All that being said, now that I have been successful in taking a Mountain Goat next time it will be archery or nothing. At least that is what I'm thinking now. Base camp I only spent the last night in. Warm stove was awesome!! On the way down. Great hunt with some great friends!!!

    Dream Mountain Goat Hunt!!

It isn't cheap for a charter flight for sure. I believe it was around $600 a person, from Kodiak and back. There were 3 of us and our gear included was around 900lbs. Our charter could hold up to 1000lbs of gear and persons I believe. We were in a Widgeon and not a regular 206 on floats. Since we are non-residents and did have to have a guide the base camp was furnished (even though I spent only 1 night in it) The rest of the time was spent in a spike camp with what we could haul on our backs. Logistically is wasn't bad for us, since we had to go through an outfitter. Just remember to prepare to sit around in a tent, or airport due to no travel days. We were very lucky. Houston
  6. I looked at mine this evening..lots of open areas in seams and seemingly light loft with light coming through, I can see how this might bother you, but I havent had any problems and it still is very warm...

    WOW really?

What a tool, I hate disrespectful people.
  8. I glass almost every night after work, weather ranges from 25-40 the last few weeks...I only use my super down and a long sleeve shirt. It seems to do well. Just remember to hang it from a hanger to keep loft when not in use.. I will hold it up to the light later this evening.
  9. Super down is best used in your pack until you need it around camp or glassing etc...it is not designed to be used during activity as it doesn't breath and is not as moisture tolerant as your kenai or other layers..

what to bring on mid January Coues Deer hunt

I love my superdown jacket...you will want it as you sit glassing and light enough to carry all over the mountain as you hike..I've had January days that didn't get above freezing down in the desert. Not very often but it can happen.

    30% All Kuiu Gear Sale

I've been a customer almost since the beginning before they were popular. In AK airports and from AK guides this weekend I saw probably 3-4 times as much Kuiu as all other brands combined. I'm thinking about changing because I hate being like everyone else. That being said their gear is great and they will continue to grow even with the short inventory.
  15. I have one..new model, does not have straps on the bottom..

    Dream Mountain Goat Hunt!!

I am fairly used to the cold the biggest problem for me was the long periods of laying in my sleeping bag. 15+ hours of dark, no fire, no chair, blowing wind and snow about drove me crazy. Yes Conor I am getting old. . Thanks everyone it really was a dream come true.

    What is the Ultimate Hunt?

Mountain goat was on my list. I had to sell my Dodge Cummins to go, and I am glad I did. Almost everyone can afford a trip like mine, if and only if they are willing to sacrifice. I hope someday when the student loans are paid I can think about what may be next.

Great looking Buck!! Sounds like an awesome vacation...
  20. This past weekend I traveled to an area to help a buddy of mine that has the Coues hunt coming up. Our plan was to hit as many areas as we could to find some Coues bucks for him and his wife. He was planning on staying in an area he had hunted and scouted quite a bit, while I was going to look at some new country. I ended up shooting this bear glassing for Coues deer and we were able to turn up 4 bucks 2 shooters. I felt a little selfish shooting this bear while I was looking for deer, but a big thanks to my buddy helping on the packout.

    Help with Binoc purchase

All things being equal or somewhat equal, this is a huge reason to buy swaro, if you have the money. Besides you can actually tell your spouse they are an investment.

    The Jag

I rarely if ever refer to a name of a buck or a bull outside of my close group of friends. We all hunt the same areas and try to get to know all the animals in that area, (unsuccessful I know) often times there are a few that are real wide or have extra kickers etc... it is easier for us to talk about which buck or bull was seen by using a name. I killed a decent bull last year, we dubbed the big thirds bull because guess what ??? he had big thirds, this year we found an area that had two bulls with giant thirds, we had to come up with separate names. As an individual it is easy to know what animal you are seeing, but it is tough trying to convey that to your other good buddies. I don't like dumb names though myself, all of them have reference to characteristics.

As nice as the Nikon EDG may be, I would be hard pressed to spend that kind of money on a Nikon. Not worth the risk IMO
