WHT_MTNMAN replied to cvw789's topic in Elk Hunting
We've been watching it and my buddy Jeremiah and myself put our watermark on it so no one will claim it as theirs.- 31 replies

I am just guessing, but I would guess the hunter shares his story in his home state or home forum, or home whatever it may be. Surprising to many on here would be the concept that these hunters, or shooters or whatever you want to call them don't do it for the fame or Glory. I get photos from Shane (killed the other big Coues) fairly regularly asking me not to share them because he doesn't go on hunts to make himself look like a great white hunter. He does it because he loves to hunt and has the means to hunt in many places. He does it with his brothers, family and close friends. I was extremely glad to see him post the pictures and story on this website. Az was and probably to some extent is still his home. Many of the other auction hunters are from the midwest or East or somewhere far from Az and they don't feel the need to share them with us. Again just speculation, on my part. I too would like to hear the story on all of these giant animals killed, I am just guessing on why we don't.

Actually I hear the story on quite a few of these, ( I didn't on this buck though) just remember only a very small % of hunters are on Coueswhitetail.com, or post info on CW.com

If you find a giant buck and or bull and don't want the auction tag holder to kill it then don't pimp it out. pretty easy. I'm sure he got a pretty good paycheck and decided it was worth it.

I was never a real big fan of watermarks but the last couple of years I've received texts that had my animals in them claiming they were from somewhere else, or someone elses....My 190 UT Buck (alive pic) was "stolen" off my Facebook last month and was passed around until it got to a buddy of mine and they tried to pass it off as a Buck they took a picture of on the Navajo. I have since changed my mind and the watermark doesn't bother me. Giant buck

AT&T Service Coverage in the White Mountains???
WHT_MTNMAN replied to rossislider's topic in The Campfire
AT&T has very poor coverage in the Clay Springs area, even worse than Verizon if you can imagine that, the only other option is Cell One up here. I'm not sure how they do in this area. -
Nothing official about the post, but hey I'll play along. Bowtech Experience.

I agree, don't stay out of the woods, just be a little more sensitive to using calls IMO.

Most of the hunters on CW.com that have actually killed more than 1 buck( or anything at all) have a huge issue with what you said because most of us dread remembering the times we have missed, or wounded anything and often times play those memories in our consciousness and it hurts, we wish we could take them back or make better decisions, but as was stated before if you have never missed or wounded a critter, you have probably never been out of your truck. I personally only remember one bull I hit in the shoulder many years ago that got away, but I've missed a HE!! of a lot of critters in my life. Those misses have made me the hunter, as lousy as I may be, I am today.

Great job and a coues with a bow is an accomplishment, but I will have to respectively disagree with one of your statements. " and a lot of meat in the freezer."

Once I bed a buck, unless they have been spooked they will be in the same area, If it was me and I saw him bed down, I would sneak in up hill (if possible) and wait about 100 yards out. Quite often he will then get up and stretch and feed in the early afternoon and then bed down again. Then depending on terrain I would get to within 40-60 yards and wait for him to stand right at dark or if that is impossible or doesn't seem like a good idea then I would wait for him to stand and start feeding and hope he works up the hill toward you. Only your scouting will tell you which way he usually feeds in the evenings. Good luck hope you get to release an arrow.

Cow Killer - I've seen bulls breed cows as early as late August/early sept (very rare) and as late as mid November. With the majority bred around Sept 23-30. Thats my experience in 1/3c/23. On another note, last year I was with my son on his birthday March 4th and saw a mulie breed a doe. By far the latest I've ever seen it. Great video, I remember seeing it last time you posted it, Giant tops on that bull.

Great looking goat, nice job!!!

In recent years I never hunt with anything on my face.. Elk do not see very well comparatively. Worry more about wind.. I killed a bull at 5 yards and I've had cow elk step on me and have never been busted because of lack of face paint or mask..

Looking for advice on raising a child into a hunter
WHT_MTNMAN replied to TonyC's topic in Youth Hunters
My advice is to start on really easy hunts and never push. Always end with a trip to favorite restaurant or something. I'm far from an expert but all 3 of my kids love to go with me. I never push, only ask. Someday I will teach them about toughing it out and pushing through, but until they are late teens, I think the better the experience, the more often they will want to join me.
