Couple more back from Clay. Happy as always

Kind of a strange comment... not sure what that was about, but in case it matters. I live between Pinedale and Clay Springs AZ, Which is between Heber and Show Low, not much city out here. I live on 2 acres with some animals and no one around. Elk and deer are in my yard often and I get to glass/hunt whatever I want before and after work. I was born and raised in this area and it took me lots of years and education to be able to make a decent living and return to the mountain. Thanks for the kind words, I'm living proof that a little dedication and lots of student loans and parents that want better for their children, can change a young mans life. Sorry for the rant- I'm a little touchy being referred to as "city"

Another Great Trip to MX (UPDATE WITH KILL SHOT)
WHT_MTNMAN posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
I had a great time again joining a few good friends down in MX. Some great food, friends and good bucks. Some scenery and my buck. I've been passing great bucks every year trying for a true Giant and usually end up shooting something small the last day. At about 11am the last day, I was prepared to go home empty handed and I was "encouraged" to shoot this buck. Not the giant I was looking for but a good buck that Im happy with. Thanks Clay at Mogollon for organizing another great trip. 494 yards... Due to time constraints I pushed my first shot as he was bedded straight away, ( I wanted to wait until he stood up, but that could have been a couple hours and our hunt was over, we were headed home the next morning early and needed to be ready to go) I hit a little far back, he got up I proceeded to miss again, (then he bedded facing toward me and here is that clip. You can hear me ask if I hit him in the face, recoil made me 2nd guess my shot placement, but it turned out well. Shot is at the 1:16 min mark. so you don't have to wait. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pus-uBohFk&list=UUJxTNxvUbIBXGl-ntMC19MA Basser15 and Myself with my buck. -

You will search and find a thousand different answers on the best way to tune. Here is my take... Paper tune is not perfect. 1. it doesn't take into count distance from paper etc.. A perfect tear at 10 feet may not be perfect at 7 or 12. 2. String/cable stretch does and will happen over time, and will cause a change in paper tear, hence arrow flight. Broad head or walk back tuning or other types of tune may not be perfect either. All tuning is dependent on grip/torque/spine etc..Even the best archers in the world don't have perfect form in every situation, (none that I know of, some better than others ) What I do: (real world application for those of us not perfect) 1. Get as close to center shot as possible 2. paper tune at various distances and get the "best" tear I can. 3. walk back method (sometimes) 4. Broad head tune with a fixed, mechanical and field tip, only making very small adjustments. IMO if your broad heads and field tips hit together, your grip/torque is being accounted for and arrows are flying true. A broad head will exacerbate any imperfections and tuning issues. especially a fixed broad head. By this time I can shoot any broad head, for the most part, and have it impact the same as my field tips up to 100 yards.. (judging on my abilities as a shooter) In my experience anything over 90-100 yards broad heads will tend to shoot slightly lower than field tips. Mostly due to a decrease in aerodynamics on ANY broad head from field tip.

Very cool story and wonderful Bull.

I've used the Blue Kazoo from North Face for many years. Works well and quite light, Cat's Meow is good.

2013 Bowtech Experience $600 bare bow.
WHT_MTNMAN replied to desertbowhunter's topic in Classified Ads
Probably my favorite bow up to this point....Very good combination of shootability and speed. Bump for a good bow at reasonable price. -
If you haven't checked tune since last year my bet is string stretch or something like that....also I had some of the same issues with a non vented head...much more sucesptible to torque and speed..

Great shot on an Awesome, heavy buck. that is too cool.

very cool buck, Congrats to you guys. -
That is exactly what he scored how did you know?? Give or take 35"
-
This is the exact reason I take every score offered up on the Internet with a grain of salt!!!
-
Trphyhntr- You score the end "point" as the main beam, not as a point. it has 3 scoreable points and a main beam. You guys are cracking me up. The problem arises when most of us use the end "point" or beam in our discussion such as a 4x4 mulie, with or without eyeguards. That is due to most mule deer having limited or no eyeguards. (yet if present they are still scoreable whereas the main beam cannot be scored as a point.) A 4x4 mule deer without eye guards will only have 3 scoreable points. (and a main beam measurement) Most of us myself included will still call this a 3x3 coues deer. And as said before, a great one at that. Congrats on a great buck.!!
