Hendo, Usually those early hunts can be tough. You will find lots of deer, but it will be tough to find mature bucks after the two previous hunts. Look in the deepest darkest canyons, and hard to reach places. Get away from the roads and you will have success. All three mountain ranges have good population of Coues Deer. I've found a little bit of old time still hunting the canyons can be good for the early hunts when they become nocturnal and bed before daylight. Glassing is huge for your scouting trips before they get too much pressure. Glass shady sides of trees during day for bedded deer. Good luck

36a is a good unit. Lots of scouting and glassing will pay huge dividends. Most of 36a has easy access by quad or UTV's. Look for places you have to walk you will do better. You will have no problem finding small bucks and does/fawns, but it can be difficult to locate bigger bucks without lots of preseason scouting. Good luck.

nice pic j. That cat looks a bit on the thin side, makes me wonder if there is a correlation with that neckwear.

Short answer- Because they are bottom dwellers. I love a good mulie hunt as much as the next guy, killed my share, start my season out in Utah with Archery deer, but come on ac guy, your on a Coues site with most of us die hard Coues fans that's just disrespectful.

300 ultra mag reloading help
WHT_MTNMAN replied to RHINO's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Sure does and I really didn't want to be shooting the 210's that hot with only 92 gr of retumbo, so I backed it down a bit and really am happy so far. Cade, some others here that have the same barrel as I do report similarly that it seems to shoot faster than other barrels of the same length and load etc... who knows. I sure don't. -

WHT_MTNMAN replied to RHINO's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
From everything I've read and heard a 1 in 12 is better for the 175-190 range, but 210's still shot better in mine. the 1in 10 should handle the 210's even better. I didn't have any problems with that load shane, except it was hard on my brass. Never seemed to be even close to locking up the bolt. I've found I get 200-300 fps faster out of my barrel than all my friends that shoot similar loads. my oal is 3.64. -
lol you haven't killed a good Coues buck have you?
-
Hey Jason, if it doesn't sell let me know. I've been needing something like that. I pm'd you.

Shane its 1in 12..I tried a bunch of loads in 180's and 190's still likes 210 best. When I shot The 92 gr retumbo it shot over 3500. I just backed it down a bit. -

90 gr of retumbo 210 VLD OAL 3.64 Velocity 3125 28" Schneider barrel 3 shot groups under half inch at 200yards a few times, average is about 1inch. I contribute that to me being a beginner re-loader. It shoots under a half inch at 100 most everytime. -
+1 I'd look at Krieger barrels as well, but let your smith help you with the pro's and con's of each barrel type, action, etc. Those guys on longrangehunting are legit. And as a side note, a good smith can put together a build that will shoot as good or better as any "Custom Rifle Company" and do it for much less with much more personal attention. +1 I just got a custom rifle put together that is less than half the price of a complete "custom". Look at Schneider barrels, little backed up because of the military contract, but if you know the right people. I got mine in 2 weeks or something like that, my stock took longer.
