Nice place.. I haven't ever thought about going to Africa.. always wanted to spend my time in Mexico after Coues or Alberta after summer mulies or Alaska, but the last few years I've looked over some prices and it sure seems that you can get a pretty good hunt for a fraction of some of my other hunts, I may have to look into it.. Especially now that I have a job.

Nice pics JIM...Good luck on the upcoming hunts and catching those no-account thieves.

Cool Pics Ron... that is a long ways out there. -
I think that is a great bull, good luck to all those with elk tags this year. Should be a very good season.

Anybody know if Payson has an archery range. I'm going up there in the next few days, finalizing a contract to start work up there and wanted a place to shoot. Any info appreciated...

Thanks Jeremy, I'll probably just shoot down here early mornings and then head up there. I should be working starting in the middle/end of July. Houston

WHT_MTNMAN replied to Snapshot's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Yeah too bad.. Lots of hot debate about him in years past even on this site. -
I put in for Points and got my Ant. and deer refund. No elk refund yet.

I shot the wacems and striker for almost 4 months before I determined that I wanted to shoot the striker. Both flew identical, wacem had the idea first which was an incentive to stay with them,, BUT the STRIKER is scary sharp out of the box, the wacem did not compare, that is why I shoot the striker. Rob you copied my other set up why not continue? If you need a bigger hole, the tricks are awesome, and again sharper than the wacems...

WHT_MTNMAN replied to KB-AZ's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I did 3rd choice, 3a/3c..I'm not out any bp and I look forward to that hunt. -
I know of quite a few areas to glass, that doesn't mean the best way to find the bulls in the late hunt would be to glass. IMO it is one of the least productive ways unit wide, not saying there are not one or two areas that may be productive.

Used to be quite a few Coues within a few miles of Heber, I don't doubt it was a Coues, but I don't know, but man when I got those emailed to me, my heart stopped.

Hey buddy, I was going to go the week before Memorial day but my brother had been down in and said it was really high. I'm probably going after gradation june 16-18th or somewhere around there, I'll just be waiting for my liscense. later

My uncle shot this bull in the late hunt two years ago. Disregard the cut throat, he heard about it from me when I got to him 5min after the shot. Notice the PJ's in the background... Bull is 365-370 ish, I can't remember

In most units I would agree with the below posts... In this unit, it is very difficult if not impossible to find areas to glass. The burn has done some good for thinning things out, but it can be a tough hunt, especially for glassing. Plan your scouting trips now.. Spend time in the PJ and thicker canyons (low country) look for tracks etc... Your scouting efforts during the rut will be worthless. Alot of bulls will come over from the White Mtn reservation during the rut but during the summer and winter move into the deeper, isolated canyons of the rez. The areas south of 260 will be hammered..Hunt the PJ's you will have more luck locating bulls, and the competition will be less. My wife shot this bull in a Nov. hunt a few years ago. One of two bulls we saw in 4 days hunting, I come from 4 generations of citizens of the metropilis of Clay Springs so we know the area a bit, there are some great bulls there in the late hunt, just don't think it will be as easy as the rut hunts. Be prepared to scout alot and do some walking. You have a good tag, good luck. PM me and we can talk a bit more. Houston +1 When you plan your scouting trips- Double them When you think you have classed enough- Double it Be in shape for a Quick move to get a shot. If you find a shooter figure him out the best you can and be in position WAY before daylight, You are Not the only one who knows about him. Have a couple back up Bulls. Welcome and good luck

Thanks guys, good quick hunt, but good to get away. YH- I was shooting a cheap mechanical for turkeys, Firstcoues really wet and muddy, hair was in good shape. We even had a bit of snow flurries.

Probably my favorite hunt, means alot since I shot and missed at this buck in Sept. archery, and killed him in Nov. I did this during my 2nd year of dental school. I also shot this bull during dental school, waited 12 years 9bp to draw in my home unit. Here he is on the wall, not the best taxi work though...

Jason- What a great buck congrats to the hunter, glad you finally got the pictures posted.
