    Advice for Arizona Elk

In most units I would agree with the below posts... In this unit, it is very difficult if not impossible to find areas to glass. The burn has done some good for thinning things out, but it can be a tough hunt, especially for glassing. Plan your scouting trips now.. Spend time in the PJ and thicker canyons (low country) look for tracks etc... Your scouting efforts during the rut will be worthless. Alot of bulls will come over from the White Mtn reservation during the rut but during the summer and winter move into the deeper, isolated canyons of the rez. The areas south of 260 will be hammered..Hunt the PJ's you will have more luck locating bulls, and the competition will be less. My wife shot this bull in a Nov. hunt a few years ago. One of two bulls we saw in 4 days hunting, I come from 4 generations of citizens of the metropilis of Clay Springs so we know the area a bit, there are some great bulls there in the late hunt, just don't think it will be as easy as the rut hunts. Be prepared to scout alot and do some walking. You have a good tag, good luck. PM me and we can talk a bit more. Houston +1 When you plan your scouting trips- Double them When you think you have classed enough- Double it Be in shape for a Quick move to get a shot. If you find a shooter figure him out the best you can and be in position WAY before daylight, You are Not the only one who knows about him. Have a couple back up Bulls. Welcome and good luck

    Favorite Trophy's

Probably my favorite hunt, means alot since I shot and missed at this buck in Sept. archery, and killed him in Nov. I did this during my 2nd year of dental school. I also shot this bull during dental school, waited 12 years 9bp to draw in my home unit. Here he is on the wall, not the best taxi work though...

    Operation Bear Bones

.270 I know what ur talking about.. I grew up in show low, know most of the guys around and witnessed some of RV ball players get kicked off for some of those episodes bout 15 years ago or such but it seems that was about it. Hopefully it doesn't get worse. I do agree with the $25 fine that is pretty strange to go through with the whole process and than slap someone on the little finger.

    Operation Bear Bones

There are quite a few "strays" that run the rim road from Show Low to Forest lakes. Mostly Reservation ponies. I know that sometimes if the prosecutors don't have much evidence against an individual they will offer small fines etc...in return for information. I bet that is what happened on some of the individuals.

    Is this carp real.

If I remember correctly this guy did other animals and was not trying to pass them off as real and yeah i think they are a woodcarving.
  20. WHT_MTNMAN

I Know It is only a Carp But .....

It's a term coues snobs use to downgrade the beauty of a mule deer. I think they have antler envy Its because Mule deer are bottom dwellers and look how ugly that thing...sure those antlers are freaking awesome, but look at the rest. Bobbyo what a great buck congrats.

    Felicia's Buck

    December tag gripe

This one burns me...I had a dec. tag 4 years ago, never saw another rifle or bow hunter except on roads. So what if both parties were looking at one group of deer, it happens all the time on public land, move on it will happen again. What next..only one tag per unit for dec. hunts so that they can have it all to themselves. Last year I was helping a guy on an elk hunt, we started in on a great bull i had seen (gross 406) when one of the auction hunters and guide showed up carrying a gun, yep they killed it..sure it sucked, but I hunt for alot more reasons than to have quarrels over areas or fight over animals. I prefer to not see one person and see only a handful of animals than see lots of game and have to worry about other hunters. Not to be personal Mr. Smith but I hate people getting upset because someone else is in the woods. Houston
