Temp stable powder for a 7-08?
MMACFIVE replied to Crazymonkey's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
From GunWerks: Humidity Humidity does play a role in long range ballistics; however the effect is so minimal we can generally disregard it. In a nutshell humid air has slightly less density than dry air so humid air has slightly less drag on a bullet. As I write this, the closest weather station shows 53% humidity in the Revic Ballistic App. A .284 caliber 180 grain Berger VLD bullet at 2,750 fps takes 17.7 MOA of elevation to get point of aim/point of impact at 800 yards. If I manually change the humidity to 5%, it takes 17.8 MOA. Considering your scope likely has 0.25 MOA adjustments, the error here is too small to adjust for. https://www.gunwerks.com/blog/lrp-stories-2/the-effects-of-temperature-and-altitude-in-long-range-shooting-255# -
Temp stable powder for a 7-08?

Could you share the article. My understanding is RH by itself has a negligible affect on flight. Often RH is conflated with barometric pressure which has a much larger affect. -
Temp stable powder for a 7-08?
MMACFIVE replied to Crazymonkey's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I agree that everything has an affect. in particular the moisture content of the powder when loaded...the lower the RH the faster the burn speed. I haven't found any information yet that says the RH changes inside the case after it is loaded though. I seriously doubt outside RH changes can do much to velocities in the short term. I know several times now I've accidently run loaded cartridges through the wash. They have always grouped with unwashed cartridges and the velocities were correct. I have seen 100fps velocity difference from one powder lot to another though. I wonder if the first batch was just older and had a lower RH. -

What is your concern with humidity after they are loaded? -

are looking for a box of 100 or 20? -
It would really surprise me if primers caused a 1moa shift. load both and compare. any chance you switched powder lots?

My only staring point is either 0.030” off the lands or max Mag length. I’ve never adhered to the 1 caliber rule.
-
The rule of thumb is on caliber diameter of case neck contact. Personally I think this is BS I've had under 0.15" in a 6.5x55 (.264" dia) and sub, sub moa. asl long at the concentricity is OK they will shoot OK. They did seem a little fragile though so I switched to Barnes monos which like a jump.. Just my opinion and experiences, PS if the one caliber of neck contact was valid the 300 Win Mag would suck....

Are loads really bullet shape dependent??
MMACFIVE replied to bowhunter-tw's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Yes they do have a guarantee. You almost have to anymore in today’s marketing. I believe their sub moa is with their ammo. I’ve never had a Wheatherby that wasn’t a good shooter. is “sub moa” accurate enough anymore? -

Increasing the jump to the lands is not necessarily the most accurate… -

Spot on. it’s surprising how few know how Weatherby gets their velocity. -

Your question is very broad. in general if you have similar construction and similar profile the psi will be fairly close. L Cazador is spot on in it comments about psi increasing and the ogive approaches contact with the lands. There are also a whole bunch of factors than can change your psi: different powder lots, different brass weight, ambient conditions, etc. you need to be more specific in your test parameters. -
Sold - Outdoorsmans Pan Head and an extra plate: $Reduced$ to $300

In Excellent condition. I just never use it. I almost always use a Dual mount with a Binocular/Spotting Scope combo or a BTX and they are just too heavy for this head. This is nearly $500 dollars new after tax: Now $300 plus S&H. This is a heck of a deal. If it doesn’t sell for $300 I’ll keep it until the fall and try again Mike 928.607.6327. Flagstaff -
Recently serviced by Swarovski. They have all new glass and rubber and an Outdoirsmans stud installed. Virtually new. From Outdoirsmans after tax these are around $3250 therefore $2250 is an outstanding deal. call or text, Mike 928.607.6327

Well I have to say this has been an interesting 13 pages of reading. Some of those early comments sure didn’t age well. I know I’d rather be friends with Duane then some of the people who post on here.

I won’t be back in Flagstaff until about October 1. I have a few boxes if you are still Looking then.

FYI I bought 2 CA 6.5 PRCs last year both shoot Hornady factory well under 1 moa. No break in, no special dies.
