question to yourself..... what pisses you off more??? not being able to put horns on a deer at say 1500 - 2000 yds and getting closer only to find out DOE! or not seeing well in low light? ie., under bushes in the shade or at first light or at dusk?? Binos on a tripod definitely help a 1000 times whether walmart binos or top of the line. My brother in law can spot a pimple on a knats a$$ at 1000yds with walmart binos I have a big pair of nikons 16x50 for the tripod and I just purchased some vortex vipers in 10x42 for around my neck. BINOS + tripod gets my vote..... James

do you shoot a bow with these?? I bought it but took it back, seems kinda bulky. I ended up with the s4 . I don't like it either... comfortable but kinda pain if you take out your binos alot while hiking. caps off caps on.. UHHHGGGG! The horn hunter, is that the bino hub? I like the design... I should have shot my bow with them. I like that they are super sturdy for extra protection. and the range finder holder is super cool. The S4 has open side and knowing me I'll be crawling through the grass weeds sticker bush and whatever else to try and get a sneak on.... James

Big Browns Offical Bear Story (Long story)

congrats! great write up! what a rush! James -
you can call all day! yotes are opportunistic eaters.... hard to pass a free meal... so they think. I have called plenty a dawg in the day time. The first dawgs I called were around noon and it was a triple with a simple howl! the result was a bit embarrassing though.. LOL! didn't bag any. missed at 40yds and the lead was a flyin... the yotes went from zero to 50 in a blink of an eye. the more quality stands the better your odds of calling in a critter... which was part of twowindy's theory. I think he said he gets like 22 stands or so in a day. even with his short calling time that's a lot... if I get 12 in a day I'm happy. obviously it's hot now so that is hard to do.. at least until it cools. the pups will leave the den around end of September/October. The absolute BEST time to get out and call, IMO! If you are salvaging pelts you prolly want to wait till it gets cooler. With all that said I absolutely love the first and last stand of the day! If I had to pick only 1 it would be the first stand in the morning right at first light. James

here's a story from a few years back... http://www.paysonroundup.com/news/2009/aug/28/all_bikes_and_stuff/ looks like your memory serves you well... mine, not so much. I couldn't for the life of me remember when I first seen it. I can remember the 2 lane highway through sunflower and how it kinda reminded me of top of the world. I remember when you hit the last big hill ( RYE ) you are almost to Payson! The 260 cafe was a single wide trailer with monster burgers! One day I ate 2... I was like 9 yrs old.. LOL! Just couldn't remember when the bikes showed up... James

Where ever that spot is...it looks like you had hit the jackpot. The buck on the left in the first pic is a beast yeah.... the force is strong with these deer! LOL! the 1 on the right in the back is pretty sick too I passed up a 3 x 3 like the 1 in the night photo to wait for a shot on the big dude.......wind can be your best bud or worst enemy! I won't make that mistake again! James

Wireless trail camera question....prior to opener.
JLW replied to Bitter24's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
just because it's not listed in the "REGS" doesn't mean it's ok check out this website. http://www.wilderness.net/search.htm?cx=011237615088348999715%3A-yw_czh5kz4&cof=FORID%3A11&ie=UTF-8&q=abandoned+property the feds seem to do what they want even if it means butting heads with state officials. I think there was a thread on baiting or something of that nature about some of the wilderness lands down south and they have laws about feeding the wildlife, period... this was before the new rule..... I think bowhuntaz1 had an encounter a couple seasons ago... ok maybe 3 years in a row... the FS LEO was giving him the business about a salt block or something.... some of the things in the "REGS" say to contact the land manager for further info. I know you aren't supposed to leave a stand or a blind.. after 24 hrs it is considered abandoned property on wilderness lands.. I would believe same holds true for trailcams...... the national forest also has rules about leaving property unattended for a certain amount of time maybe 72 hrs, I think. the regs say to contact the land manager for further restrictions and or regulations regarding these matters. when you make a brush blind... cutting on a live tree, illegal, screwing steps, camera boxes, bow hangers, gear hangers into a living tree... illegal. They probably get mad when the deer and elk make a game trail........ I can here it now... "WHO authorized this trail!" James -
