  5. guys I used to hang around base jump in that canyon...... north of the view site there is an island cliff that's over 1500 ft. the first time was about 1989! some do it and hike out and some pitch in and rent a helicopter and make multiple jumps in a day. there was also a European deodorant commercial made there and they paid him $50,000 for the jumps and they paid the guy that was the "technical adviser $10,000 although far from walking the tight rope still very cool! they shot Wallenda down for the NYC gig so maybe he can go to Yosemite or somewhere cool... Seeking Predator Calling Tips

another tip... if you get busted by a yote and he starts barking with short howls non stop ( warning bark)... pack it up and go at least 3-4 miles.... may seem extreme distance but they are letting all the dogs no you are there! as far as how far I go depends on the type of terrain it is; hills, thick cover. ect.... A mile as twowindy says is a good mark. James

    Scarring your hunting buddy stories

that's pretty darn funny right there! I can totally visualize that! Some things you just gotta be there, but this is kinda funny anyways Not a prank but just a funny happening My brother in law is deathly afraid of bees..... I asked him if he's allergic and he said "no, I don't think so" Fast forward to a scouting trip near roosevelt lake... we were done glassing this spot and we got into the truck to move down the road a few hundred yards... His spotting is comparable to none this day was no different... he'd spotted several deer in their beds with his walmart bushnells. We must have spotted 40 or so deer with a bunch of small bucks 2 here 3 there 1 under that bush. so we get into the truck and close the doors and I start the truck, all of a sudden he starts flailing around in the truck waiving his arms like crazy and in an instant he tries to bail out of the truck, flings open the door takes a step outside and I hear the famous gravel slip sound.. BAM! face down lying next to the truck. He wasn't moving at all! I tried to compose myself to ask if he was ok but couldn't stop the laughter! I said what are you doing? He started laughing........ I said what was that all about. He said "There was a BEE!" we laughed pretty hard the rest of the day! James

    Desert Trail Cam Set Up

I don't hang cams in desert but have read of some that will strap it to a saguaro. who's gonna mess with that? LOL! another post I read was dig a hole for fence post (kinda like the ones for barbedwire fences) and pour shot crete. if near a waterhole get your water there if not you'd have to haul it in. I also read about a fake barrel cactus from "Michaels" art store. fake rock is another.... I've seen some pretty real lookin fake granite boulders. some of these tips may or may not be illegal. LOL! Seeking Predator Calling Tips

+1 stay at least 15-20 min... the later into the calling season I stay even longer. by February / march I stay up to 45 minutes. make sure you aren't sky lining while going to your stand. dead down wind may help for a young coyote but not much will help with an educated dawg. try to have the wind at least cross wind. if possible sun at your back, but I pick wind over sun any day. try not to call across big open spaces... while it may work sometimes ,a lot of them don't feel comfortable with out a little cover. start with the volume real low for at least fir couple minutes... they have superior hearing as you know. as far as sounds, I have great luck with bird sounds in the cedars and pine... especially woodpecker distress. sometimes after calling for 10 minutes or so if nothing is happening I may switch sounds to pup distress and just let that go for 5-10 minutes. It doesn't matter if pups are dropping or are grown it just doesn't matter the females can't stand it. As far as how long to play a sound, everyone has different techniques. I do both... sometimes I let it play the entire stand sometimes I stop the caller every 2-3 minutes and have a couple minutes of silence. to me the set up makes the whole thing happen. so pick your stands wisely. areas that get a lot of traffic are hard to call but may be great during the week when no one is around. Remember where you see em when you are driving around and then come up with a plan and come back and smash em! good luck! James

    August Archery

use to do spot n stalk in 22.... in the foothills of 4 peaks east side by Rosey. seen plenty of deer but it's hot and dry and STEEP! from my observance they are pretty much the same... feed mornings and evenings and hit water from late morning til early afternoon. those steep canyons provide ample shade in the late afternoon. we mostly hunted muleys but we were seeing more and more coues the more time we spent out. you can glass bucks in there beds but hard to stay out when it's 100 deg + you will have the hills mostly to yourself. hung a camera on a G&F tank and was getting bucks almost daily, until it was time to hunt.. I had a hard time staying in the blind. by 10:00 am I was in my underoos! Hit me up with a pm I think we hunted some of the same areas last January. maybe trade some info. James

2 cams stolen does any one know this set up?

I can attest to the fact that 22 is notorious for this. About a half dozen of my friends and I have been victims in the last several years along the rim country. Well, it finally happened that one of my friends caught someone red handed stealing his stuff. The thief had his blind, feeder, 2 cameras, chairs, and other items tied down on his quad. The thief had his wife and his very young son, maybe 3yrs old, along with him to help. He actually drove his quad right to the spot even though there wasn't a trail or road. Long story short the thief untied all the gear and laid it on the ground and drove off. My friend recognized him as a delivery driver and son of an owner of a well known construction company out of the Payson area. Charges have been made thru the forest service and sheriff's offices. This individual also admitted he has been stealing hunter's equipment for years. I assume he is responsible for all my stuff as well. When my friend gives me the OK I will post his picture here and posters will be hung in the Payson area. TJ that's crazy, TJ! although not in the forest, we had our recycling bin stolen yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean dang... they will deliver you 1 if you just call! James
