here is a thread that was started with a bunch of good advise.... http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/17510-calling-all-gurus-seeking-advice/ educated coyotes are the hardest to call.... times will be easier when the pups first leave the den in Octoberish.... as the season moves on it becomes a bit harder to trick the educated ones so your stand should get a bit longer... set up is important then like bass fishing you gotta find what they are biting on. try to find someone experienced to go with. it will cut the learning curve down. good luck! James

What new rule is there regarding waterholes? it was about placing object or device on or near a waterhole so that it may keep the game animals away from the water. Brian from G$F addressed this briefly in his reply under the Game and fish to ban baiting subject..... from what I gather it was from people actually putting chemicals in water sources to force them to use the waterhole they want to hunt... or put a radio at night near the waterhole so the animals will stay away and the shut it off when they come to sit the spot. I've seen muleys pushing does in the 1st week of march. I think if the does that don't get bred they will cycle again and the bucks who didn't burn out can still go another round. I think I read something that the younger bucks don't know how to conserve will not be interested cause they are spent... I could be off..... maybe that was a dream or something that stuck in my head from a hunting show whislt I was napping. Great photos Pixman!!! the clarity is unbelievably awesome! thanks for sharing. i read somewhere that there is nutrients in the ashes. here some info from Purdue University horticulture web page with the link Wood stoves and fireplaces are great for warming gardeners' chilly hands and feet, but what are we to do with the resulting ashes? Many gardening books advise throwing these ashes in the garden. Wood ash does have fertilizer value, the amount varying somewhat with the species of wood being used. Generally, wood ash contains less than 10 percent potash, 1 percent phosphate and trace amounts of micro-nutrients such as iron, manganese, boron, copper and zinc. Trace amounts of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, nickel and chromium also may be present. Wood ash does not contain nitrogen. http://www.hort.purdue.edu/ext/woodash.html James

90% is in the set up......... another factor is call shy "edjumacated yotes" I've had yotes come in when the call sounded crappy... ie. bent or split reed or just plain bad callin. when you find some that haven't been called they will come. good to here the fawns are increasing down there. James -
Mt Ord certainly has that reputation but it happens all over.......... was up there saturday... didn't stay long.... maybe til 9am. visibility was about 100yds at best and 50ft at worst. came back before noon to see if the visibility changed and nope.... left around 1pm and only saw 2 vehicles while I was there. a chevy truck color model unknown and an orange H3 drove by when I was sitting at the entrance. he came out shortly after. I only went as far as the corral when you first top out. Thieves suck! sorry they took your stuff.... I try never to leave my blind for that reason. James

I never was much on trapping... to each there own, and I have nothing against people who do. my dad was into trapping in the late 70s early 80s... I never really liked it. talked to this trapper a month or so ago and he'd done pretty well with a few cats and a bunch of fox. I asked him how he dispatched the animals and he said he just uses a dog catcher pole. he said he didn't want any blood in his traps cause the cats get all wary of it. I don't want to get graphic but I was like dang..... Thought to myself "maybe I'm getting soft as I get older " then I thought " no, no; that guy has some screws loose!" James

we usually try to bed em and let me tell you.... it is hard when they have sooo many eyes watchin out! If you can't find all the deer you will never get close. A middle aged Navajo guy I met said they quit bedding them and wait for them to get up and feed and he said it has increased his opportunities and kills! he watches them bed and comes back later when they get up and start feeding and tries to figure where they are feeding and gets in front of them... I've tried it a couple of times but they seem to have a sort of jedi power that they sense something and feed off in another direction. I might have trouble stalking a glass of water.. LOL! patience is a big factor IMHO and mine is getting somewhat better, I don't get too over excited like I used to. We'll see this weekend. James

Final wording for the Bait Ban
JLW replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I think it was said on here in 1 of the original posts ( correct me if I'm wrong) that salt kills the disease or something to that effect. James Really? I guess I'll re-read and do some research. I don't bait, but loosing the option to bait stinks. I hope this isn't the first step to take away OTC archery deer tags... here you go http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/mole00/mole00093.htm
