    5b North early archery

try to pay more attention to the transition areas.... pines/cedar. it'll be hot so the pines provide great shade if they are not talking much. doesn't mean they won't be in the cedars but start scouting from the pines and go from there. James

3C Junior Turkey Hunt Advice HNT #4054

probably need to locate em' first. try a crow call or a coyote howl just before first light and listen for the gobblers. Try not to do this while scouting cause they are smart and they will figure out it ain't real and will vacate the area. Once you locate try to sneak into them as close as possible without being detected. If you can find where they are roosting get in well before light and wait for them to fly down and try some soft calling once they fly down. I'm not an expert but just some expert tips passed on to me. James

camping 300ft either side of a road is more realistic than post mentioned about the Kaibab 30ft. Probably going to be a lot of tickets...... James
  9. while all that sounds like fun no 1 wants to risk their future in hunting in the least bit for a coyote doing what they do naturally.... adapt and survive. call G&F and ask what can be done. That's all you need to arrow a coyote and he goes running across some coyote feeding antis' yard bloody with an arrow hanging out. Although that would be funny....... My boss lives in paradise valley and keeps wanting me to come get em' with my bow. while tempting not worth the trouble you could get in. James AKA (Buzz Killington)

    Fletchings

I love the durability of the blazers! I don't shoot a biscuit but have a few arrows that are on their 3rd season with the blazers and only 1 out of the few I have from that set is warped. You'll crack the arrow before wearing out the blazer. My wife shoots the same out of her crapture rest. lol! So far so good. James

    AZGF what are you thinking?

The fact that there are increasingly more archery hunters every year is IMO the main cause of increase in kills. There is no way of knowing the true # of hunters in any given unit besides draw units (archery) and archery hunters who are successful. I'm sure the G&F can give us the # of OTC tags sold versus the success % by each year as a totall. People gain more experience with each time they go afield. Technology gets better, archers can shoot farther than ever before. While not in my abilities, 80-100yd shots are more common today than they were 8-10 years ago. Sittin water food or bait has no more guarantee than someone sittin a hot trail. James

    AZGF what are you thinking?

the amount of archers hunting the unit was 260? So all the people that archery hunted and did not kill a deer turned in there survey card from that unit? I highly doubt it! I agree mandatory reporting would be good and make the phantom #s make more sense. james

    found some deer

even if from January it illegal to let any meat go to waste. you would think by now (if from January) the coyotes would have devoured them? I would call and give them the location so they can at least check it out. James

What is a 133" pick up worth

I always have tag soup... haha! not sure on that... maybe for future keep a photo album of your tags. I haven't heard anyone getting in trouble for that. do they have to show proof like that when the sportsman shows go around the country? good question.... not sure how strict that kind of thing is. I was just posting the specific law. If I find a deadhead with a nice rack I sure would pick it up and deal with whatever later as I'm sure most would! James

What is a 133" pick up worth

it's illegal to pick up dead heads with out game and fish determining cause of death unless they are just sheds which those are not. with that said.... that pick up is awesome! that thing is McNasty! I would have picked it up too! James Anyone know where that rule been published? I recently read all the Arizona Revised Statutes concerning wildlife and found only one section that spoke to wildlife "parts," and it only prohibited the sale of sheep heads taken after a certain date. If it is a regulation passed by the game commission, it should be in the regulations booklet and I could find nothing there. I must have overlooked it, because I've heard the same thing. Bill Quimby Bill, I found this article on the G&F website http://www.azgfd.net/wildlife/hunting-news/are-you-shed-antler-hunting-legally/2009/03/12/ James
