negative, the hit for the ap fee then if you draw they hit for tag fee. they started here at work poppin tops when I went to lunch at 1pm! Lol! I'm gonna head up to 23 for the weekend. Hope they keep hittin cards! James

I do like it!!!!! Just don't like bashing G&F for the process! I like the anticipation..... it's the let down that bums me out. lol! James
-
at least you don't have to wait like you did before they moved the draw up! Maybe if the state wouldn't take the G&F $ when they are in the red and G&F was in the black they could be a little farther with technology. At least they are trying to make it better. They set a date for tags and refunds maybe they should use that date for posting and everyone would know when the results are going to be out! The early elk hunters will still have 5 months for scouting. It could be worse... you could be in Pakistan sewing soccer balls! Lol! James

WOW is RIGHT! Nice find for sure! James

1 of our drivers was out that way a couple of years ago and there was a sheriff stopping traffic cause there was a deer in the road. it was a red stag from what my driver said and he offered to use his archery tag on it for the sheriff and ther sheriff said he was thinking the same thing! lol! at tournaments they do/should check the livewells when launching the boats because of past cheaters at least we did when I helped out at allstar and bestbet tournaments.I've even seen fish that looked like their tails were trimmed when there was a slot at roosevelt. I know this tournament is different so I'm not sure of the process. James

it's illegal to pick up dead heads with out game and fish determining cause of death unless they are just sheds which those are not. with that said.... that pick up is awesome! that thing is McNasty! I would have picked it up too! James

I just got a new sight and I guess I never payed any attention besides seeing my pins. Question is should I be seeing the entire pin guard or not? Now that I notice when my nose is on my string I cannot see the pin guard. When I do see the bottom edge or top edge I know I'm not in there right. Could be just a stupid question! I have never changed my peep size so I have no experience with different ones, bigger or smaller. I didn't want to go smaller as I was afraid of having trouble in low light, and bigger I was afraid of inconsistencies on my part. Thanks in advance for any tips or insight! Haha... insight James

it says in the regs to refer to each specie for legal method of take. I see no reference to caliber only magazine capacity and ammunition types; ie; exploding projectile, tracers and such it says To take elk: a. Centerfire rifles; b. Muzzleloading rifles; c. All other rifles using black powder or synthetic black powder; d. Centerfire handguns; e. Handguns using black powder or synthetic black powder; f. Shotguns shooting slugs, only; g. Bows with a standard pull of 30 or more lbs, using arrows with broadheads no less than 7/8 inch in width with metal cutting edges; and h. Crossbows with a minimum draw weight of 125 lbs, using bolts with a minimum length of 16 inches and broadheads no less than 7/8 inch in width with metal cutting edges or bows as described in subsection (A)(6)(g) to be drawn and held with an assisting device it also references ARS 17-301 and ARS 17-309 and see no restrictions of caliber except on limited weapon hunts. you may want to call and clarify. I ended up not moving it out because I'm not sure about my quiver... I may just go without, not sure yet. convenient and inconvenient. lol! I started noticing the edge of the ring at 50-60yds so that had me thinking about it. I just need to shoot some more to get used to it. Thanks for the opinions! James

blame the e-callers all you want but with sooo many people going out calling these days, that has a big effect on the coyotes reaction to the call. the fact more people are out calling these days has some to do with it. If people pound an area with the same sounds from a caller they may shy a bit so your mouth call should be like music to their ears. when they get educated obviously they will be hard to call. If they are hearing the same sounds they will wise up! if the wind is slight they may not circle as bad but with a steady breeze the smart ones will definitely circle and thus you may never see them depending on how thick the cover or how far they start to circle. there is a reason they are one of the top predators out there. with that said there are people that can take you out and consistently call in coyotes. 1:4 or 1 coyote to 4 stands is a very good ratio. I have yet to achieve that ratio I'm about 1:7. I think stand choice is a big factor. if you are in an area that doesn't receive a lot of pressure you will know right away! I have found a couple places like this and it sure is a blast. 1 place up north we made a few stands during a cow elk hunt. we made about 5 set and called in 2 on 1 set and 2 on another set and the other 3 sets were dry as far as predators. there is nothing like calling an area that gets very little pressure but hard to find, close to the valley anyways. I'm not a big fan of calling in the low desert but know people that slay um. I; like many others; don't get out to call very often anymore. I usually have to combine a few stands with hanging cameras or a scouting trip because $ is tight. James

ok thanks.... I didn't want to go bigger. I guess I can move my sight forward and that should do it. I started to do that but I moved it back cause I couldn't get my pins where I wanted in the guard. I guess I just got impatient. Curious how everyone else sets theirs up?????

when I first started it was bad, to the point I wanted to give up! bought a few instructional videos and it started getting better. some times I go 8-10 stands and nadda. Probably average 5-6 sets now. If you can go with someone experienced it will help tremendously! went out a couple weeks ago and made about 9 sets and called up a cat on the last stand but my rifleman was above me about 75yds and he never saw it. I've had quite a few bad days but mostly bad stand choices either in set up or too many people driving around. Sometimes you have to walk a bit to find a good spot away from the crowds. IMO October would be the best month if you can find a spot away from all else that is going on. The pups are getting kicked out of the den and have to fin for themselves. After that the colder it is the better! Cloudy days are awesome! James -
