    OK I'm posting the pics!

just don't make sense.... why someone would steal a salt lick? what if it were for a ranchers cows? looks like the lick was in 2 pieces...? just petty BS. a $7500 quad and he can't buy a $15 salt block? with the economy maybe he really needed it. thanks obama! was your camera in plain view? Locked? james

  3. going with someone that knows calling will cut your learning curve down tremendously! Trust me I learned the hard way. Now I call in 1 about every 7-8 stands in fact I am 2 for my last 2. Calling all day with nothing coming in sucks! With all the stuff I have bought I could have bought a nice rifle or some good optics! Keep at it. Pick up a video that has some instructions and that will help. Coyotes can see better than a whitetail and smell better than a whitetail. Hunt coyotes like you bow hunt whitetails...with that I mean if they see you, here you, or smell you just forget it. Don't skyline when going to your set. After you get there let the wild life settle for a few. I try to wait 3-5 min before I start calling. start the caller of low volume in case there is 1 close by. It should take them no longer than 20 min to get to you if they're far off. Remember besides us coyotes are the top predator. Keep at it and good luck! James

  5. really hard to use mouth calls and drop every thing and clip on to your string when 1 comes in. Believe me I have tried! you can pick up a cheap digital caller for about 40$ no good on windy days but if your just gettin into it it's fun. or you can search the internet for digital distress sounds and put them on your mp3 player and pick up a speaker at sportsman warehouse for 40$. it won't have great sound unless you also add an amplifier but mine worked like that for a couple years. just gets distorted when turned up. Someone might even be willing to take you out if they don't have a busy schedule. move up to the predator section above this 1 and browse through. good luck, james

Is there some kind of Doe Shortage???

Low success rates = more tags and hunter opportunity as well. Short hunts, and lots of people in a limited area (with limited bucks) all add up to limited success. Everything factors in to the number of tags set each year. Archery is still over the counter (except strip) because of the super low success rate. I could be wrong, but notice when the # of deer killed in an archery season has equalled the # of deer killed in rifle season and the unit will go to a draw or simply not be open as they have done with unit 22 and 23 for the december hunt. james
  11. see pinned post above in this section. james mis read this question... thought it was a question on setting up the blind.... I have no problem pulling my bow back when I'm sitting on a stool or chair it's the shooting form that throws me off. sometimes you'll get weird angles or have to lean out a bit. james

    Desert Mule deer rut

I have called them in on a regular basis with distress calls calling coyotes... just does though. I once gave a couple of buck grunts to a nice 3x3 muley that was hot on 3 does trail they were moving below me the disappeared but I could here them walking. so I start glassing else where when all of a sudden these does are making a beeline for me with buck in tow! I didn't even have my bow ready it was up the hill about ten yards. Needless to say they heard me scrambling for my bow and the does veered off! I bleated at the buck and he gave me a long shot. the hill was very steep so I shot under and watched him wander off after the does. moral of the story is ..... you never know! big bucks will run of little bucks for sure. I wouldn't blind call but if you can stalk to within 100 yards or so you may try a little buck grunt. james

    Road Hunting

now that I re-read it I see how it can be up for different interpretation. I was with the original poster on this but now I see how it can be seen differently. I was told by a warden that if I was driving and saw a deer and got out with bow/gun and harvested that animal I would be in violation of road hunting. I have read on this forum and others as well as seen videos of the strip where they saw a big buck while they were driving and hopped out and tried to shoot the big buck. in the august/september hunt I hunt blinds or treestands but in the late hunt I do alot of glassing and strictly spot n stalk. I had this situation this weekend and not the first time either. I was driving to an evening glassing spot and came upon a nice heavy 3x3 with 9 does while driving. they clearly saw me driving and actually started to hop away. so I kept driving and they stopped and watched me drive away.I parked at the bottom of the hill where I was out of sight and got my release on and got my bow and the stalk was on. I didn't see any problem with that...? not like I hopped out and tried to shoot em. Am I wrong? james

the survival rate with fawns is not near what it is in other places due to drought and predation. james

    In Need of Legal Advice.

when my tv was stolen years ago ( luckily thats all they got) the police told me the same thing... it can not be classified as a burglary unless there was physical damage. i was lucky in my case my neighbor saw the moving truck at my house and we found out who done it. when a co worker was basically car jacked at the gas station his insurance told him he was not covered because he left the keys in the ignition. good luck! I hope it works out for you! james

  19. I picked up this tripod head bogen manfrotto 329/3410 with no quick release plates. did a quick search for them and came up with no longer manufactured. am I going to have to rig it up or is there another way? thanks in advance for any info! James

    #@%!& shotgun sights!!

pretty sure the guy was saying he was distracted by the sight being broke and that gave the fox time to bolt. everyone has their own way they like things. so if you threw up your shotgut and your front bead was busted off by some wacky reason you would prolly think in yur head...WTF and then shoot anyways giving the critter that split time to bolt! anything from the norm makes you take pause! just cuz you don't like it doesn't mean it ain't no good! james
