Not so funny story... Sunday heading back from putting out a couple of cams my ignition coil burns up. I'm on the 60 west bound just about 1 mile east of the oak flat campgrounds. no cell service so I take off walking. several cars/trucks pass including 1 white F-150 with a CouesWhitetail.com sticker. I get to the top of the hill and a nice hunter in a big ol' lifted F-250 actually turned around to see if I needed a ride I hop in and niether of us got service til' about the QueenValley turn off. Really appriciate the ride if you read this forum Thanks Again! Called the wife and went back to get my stuff as i have had towtruck drivers steal my stuff Anyway I guess I need to get with Amanda to get a sticker on my truck maybe he would have stopped then James

that was a great write up! i know it doesn't seem that it was good hunting trip but you overcame the crazy hiking ladies and found and recovered your buck. this is going to be an awsome campfire story! 10 years from now.... remember my first coues...? way to keep your composure around the antis. congrats on your first coues buck! james

that's awesome! great story! i know about them booger men james

i know it may sound funny but they really do use certain types of howls and barks. for instance during the mating season the females that haven't paired up will give what they call a female invitation howl when they are ready to mate. also big males will challenge howl back at you when you sneak into his livingroom and howl. you can plainly hear the difference in the types of howls. group howls challenge howls female invitation howls lone howls kinda like a deer can grunt or snort wheeze or bleat. i've heard female elk bark similar to a dog when i was too close to her calf. imo the more you make the environment you call realistic the better your chances are. i'm not an expert but have read and studdied the coyote a whole lot. james

i'm sure they won't even learn a lesson outta of this. it'll prolly take an butt whuppin. i'm with you... don't mess with my stuff and all will be fine. james

i have howled them up mid day. i almost always start with a howl. check out Randy Anderson's Calling all coyotes video. very informative. the howl they call "the interigation howl" is a long drawn out howl maybe throw in a bark at the end or in between howls that will get them fired up! they sometimes come in silent though! if youi buy 1 of Randy Anderson's howlers it comes with a cd and he talks all about coyote vocalizations. the challenge howl works real well if you here a big male in the bunch. remember if they here you, see you, or smell you they will not come. good luck to ya! james

+1 on hanagan medows area. friend of mine went last year called in 2 diff bears unfortunately they both had cubs. he got some nice pics though. when my dad was alive thats where he would go he and his partner took a couple of nice bears out of there. he spent several years trying to find a big cinnamon boar he could get on with his pistol but never found the 1 he was looking for. i have never had the chance to go after a bear maybe some day. james

when i was about 13 or 14 my dad had taken a myself and bunch of his buddies from work to go fish the black river. we were camped at george's basin and had come back to camp from a morning on the river. everyone was sitting around drinking beer and a couple of them tossed out some catfish poles as there are some pretty big flatheads in there. while everyone was bullstienin i was down by the poles re baiting 1 of them and took some extra line out of my box. i tied 1 end to the tip of 1 of a pole and ran it straight down under a rock and ran it back to where i was sitting about 20 yds behind the poles. i start pulling on the line and 1 of the guys starts saying "Bobby yer gettin a bite!" Bobby at the time was around 50 ish and not in the greatest shape.he ran from about 50yds away stumbling over all the rocks beer in hand. he finally got to his pole and set the hook........ nothing.. reals the slack and sets again.... nothing. by this time everyone was on the ground laughing so hard and it finally sets in he's looking at the extra line on his pole what the..... he vowed to get me back but it never happend. that was 1 of the funniest things to watch he really thought he had a monster cat. james

any lock you put on those cams can be easy to get off! the hole you put the lock through is PLASTIC! you have to get a bear box or make your own to at least make them work for it. if they want it bad enough they will take it you wouldn't lock your work tool box with a plastic lock would you? i know there is some debate over cams but it is still your property. thieves suck! james
