    chiggers in az?

I'm sure some hunters on here hunt Mt. Ord. we seem to have a re occuring problem when we go there. every time we go even if we just stop off to glass we end up with itchy bites or rash. this weekend was no different! while i think i may have come in contact with a poisonous plant around young... as i have blisters in some areas but other areas seem to be bites? does anyone on here get this at mt. ord? i have attached a pdf about chiggers wich i thought did not exist here in az...... this being a big rainy season in areas we are hunting with lots of high grass maybe we are getting chigger bites? i seem to wonder how a poisonous plant can go through your boots and socks. but chigger bites... just like i remember in Ohio behind the knees, sock line, waste line arm pit Yea this SUCKS!!!!! i can't wait for next weekend. james

  5. went out last weekend put a stalk on a nice 3x3 muley but the winds kept changing and they got a little nervous and worked their way into some thicker stuff. watched some turkeys sat. morning till they broke up. passed on 2 spikes sun morning had 1 at 40 yds. on the way out saw a bear on a super steep slope in a rock slide watched him feed into some thicker stuff. i have a new admiration for you bear hunters, that would have been brutal! james

  11. is it normal on some models to have to move the safety switch to fire mode in order to open bolt to unload? a friend of mine bought a savage (not sure what model) in 30.06 caliber, it doesn't have the adjustable trigger. we went out this weekend to make a couple stands on our way to glass some deer and on our 1st set nothing showed we walk back tyo the truck and he takes the clip out and flips the safety to open the bolt BANG! he's fairly new to hunting but has been around guns a little and knows to always point firearms in a safe direction. is this a common accurance or should you not have to flip the safety to open the bolt? this happened with my brother-inlaw a few years ago with an older model remington and he quickly got rid of it. any info on this would be much appreciated! james

    Some Cool Cam Pics....

those are sweet! love the sunset pic! james
  13. i know what you mean. to sit a water hole and have "hunters" drive up on there quads drive around the water hole "checking for tracks" shouldn't they have scouted before hand? or drive around until they see deer. it has not been as bad this year where we are hunting but while we glass from the ridges we see this all the time. i know not everyone with a quad or ranger does this but those who do............ hang in there! when all is said and done it still beats work and i wouldn't give it up for nothing! come on friday! james

Hunting Water after a big rain

me and my buddy were talkin about this while he says they will still come out of habbit i think it depends on how much pressure the have had. they still have to drink but almost every wash has a little hole of water for a few days especially in thick forrest where there is alot of shade. yeah i was praying for more hot dry weather myself... but it doesn't look like that is happening. i'm tired of blowing stalks! james

    Valuable lessons learned

i feel your pain! i had plenty of blunders of my own. missed 2 shots at deer. a nice 3x3 coues and a forky muley both at 52 yards shot over then shot under i had the little back window open and the 3x3 busted me then i rushed the shot on the fork muley when i should have let him come drink that was on the first day second day spent the day getting busted missed turkey comming to drink didn't see them until they were leaving blew a stalk on a nice 3x3 muley in the rain then on sunday stalked another big coues 3x3 90 inches easy got to about 90 yds and another hunter popped up and had bounced him below me and i did't see him. then walked up on the 2x2 s that were with him and bounced them aaaaahhhhhhhg all this when my brother inlaw broke his string on opening day and stayed with me! it was 1 of the best hunts i have ever been on! in reading your post i will file those lessons in the memory bank. can't wait til' next week! james
