game and fish says to check with the appropriate land management. i'm sure each 1 is different. also says leaving such property for"extended periods of time" maybe considered abandoned property. so is leaving it over night considered "extended period"? we all have our opinions!!!!!!!!! james

I asked this a while back. with all the suggestions i think leaving a note with your # so you can maybe work together was the most reasonable so you can be on the same page and maybe compare notes i had a similar situation, i didn't leave a note wish i had. i later met the guy and his sons when i was scouting very nice gentleman. we chatted for a bit discussed our primary plans and all is good. the season is too short to waste time. good luck! james

now they will be getting edjucated, so just change up what you are doing. just play the pup distress next time maybe in the evening to mix it up. james
-
if they are denned up close by start off with a lone howl right at legal light. then wait 3-4 min then a session of turkey or woodpecker distress 30-40 sec. after a couple of sessions of distress wait 3-4 min then play pup distress on your e-caller let it play until they show up.............. the females can't stand it ! good luck!

this early in the season it's important to be at your glassing spot before sun comes up. way easier to catch em' moving and watch where they bed than to pick them out of there bed. although that is my brother inlaws specialty. glass the yellow grass on hillsides/ fingers and bowls james

hunter or not they need to be caught being the third in the last month maybe set a cam on your cam then start a new thread To Catch a Thief............ that is a good looking deer though! james
-
no more deer left in 24b too hot, too much catclaw really though, the game and fish regulations book give great starting points for all units. james

question on how to best preserve meat in the field
JLW posted a topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
ok so you have an ealy tag in a unit with warm weather in october..... you hike in x amount of miles lets say 4-5 rough miles you find a buck of your worth and lay the smack down. the temps are now in the 90's and now the work begins. you get him boned out and bag the meat and start your trek back to the truck. i know it's best to cool the meat as quick as possible. so the up and down miles take about 40 min. around 3 hr or so back to the truck. how long do you have before the meat will be ruined in 90 deg weather? what is the best method to bag or store the meat while hiking? i know inside my pack gets really hot. even the ice in my camelback don't last in the heat i know these questions might seem silly to some but just want to know. thanks, James -
