Did you catch the podcast yesterday where one of the MeatEater guys had his cabin burned to the ground for turning in a poacher? This was in Missouri. I’ve hunted there, let me tell you, poaching is a part of their culture, and they just won’t quit, and are antagonistic towards those who suggest it’s wrong.

A couple things.... it has an on/off switch that takes a moment to engage. If someone busts into my house with a weapon, I don’t want to fumble with a switch. The holosun has shake awake. Basically, if you pick it up, it turns on. Also, the holosun has solar back up. So if you’re battery is dead, as long as a light is on, you are good to go. but the worst thing was I dropped my gun, and the venom crushed the housing so bad it was useless. While vortex replaced it, I don’t think this is combat worthy. the housing on the holosun is beefy, looks like it could take serious abuse. my buddy got a trijicon rmr, and the sight window is a bit better than my holosun. Not sure if holosun has better options or not. i would say the venom is good for range use, but not enough for edc, or realistic tactical situations.

I had one and didn’t like it. I sold it. Have you looked at holosun or trijicon?

I was recently in the same position, and considered the .338 lapua, .28 nosler, and .300 win mag. the 28 nosler had my attention big time, but went with the 300 solely on price of ammo.

You’ve got the 243, so you have small calibers covered. That said, it’s time to go big. 300 win or wsm, or 7mag. Put a break on it, wear ear plugs.
