You’re gonna hafta put some boot leather down this summer. Elk are hard to find in November. Locate every water hole in the unit and check them out the week before the hunt. Build blinds, also set up tree stands in funnel areas. Find high places you can glass from. Hunt steep areas with no road or trail access. If you want easy, you can wait 25 years for early rifle. Late archery is difficult. Elk will be skiddish, nocturnal, and generally hard to find.

So, I was listening to Brian Call’s podcast with Jim Heffelfinger(sp?), where he basically invited the world to come Bowhunt deer in Arizona in January. Seems like all the hunting personalities are now doing this. I’ve seen this from Hushin, Randy Newberg, The Hunting Public, etc. Of course, G&F is supportive of all the license revenue. Apparantly, we are an untapped resource for all hunters everywhere. To me, this public invitation is somewhat unwanted. It’s crowded enough out there, let alone an invitation to the world to sample our fine hunting opportunities on public land. what think ye?

It’s a choice you make. I’ve drawn 4 of one of the worst bull tags in the state, in a row. Most people who draw it, say, “never again!” But at least I get to go. I’ve actually killled bulls a couple of times. I’ve resigned that I will probably never kill a 6x6 in my life. I’m ok with that.

My son shot an elk at 80 yards with an eldx out of a 6.5 creedmore, the elk dropped in 2 steps, the bullet held together, and broke the far shoulder. We’ve killed a few with hornady American whitetail in 150 grain. They all went no where and died. One elk the bullet blew up, it was about a 50 yard shot. The elk still died, on the spot. I would ignore randy selby and his hate for all things hornady. He’s just jealous. I don’t have tons of data to share, but this is what I have.

i'd be for iron sights only. Hope it doesn't ruffle feathers. Or at least rules against smokeless powder. I think it's an insult to muzzle loading enthusiasts with some of these in lines, topped with a scope, that shoot smokeless. i'm also against crossbows in archery season. but, i'm not going to start a war over these things. sometimes it's just good to see people getting out there. muzzle loading is a fine and honorable tradition, which i pursue at from time to time. (and mostly fail, lol). i'd like to see it remain an honorable tradition, and not go the way of big ego's and big money.

well, what did you choose? i'm packing my muzzle loader tomorrow, but am taking a 10mm for back up, a xdm. I'm just using cheap mag tech ammo, because i don't think it really matters on small game. I have some nice stuff from ammo inc, it's kind of pricey, maybe i'll take that. Hopefully i can get it done with the muzzy.

Got a big bag of mostly 30.06 brass, Remington and hornady. A few pieces of federal are unfired, and a box or two of .38 brass. trade for predator calls, hunting books, accessories, ammo, or something hunting related. in Payson. looking reality in the face, I’ll probably never reload.

Trade for predator calls, fishing gear, ammo, etc. never used, has surface rust from storage.
