I think Cottonwood is beginning to be a happening place. not to far from elk, mule deer, coues, and work. they have a few amenities as well.

i don't like the stuff from walmart. you could die out there in that stuff...lol i'd go to a military surplus store and get some old BDU's. that's what i wear, mostly. also, don't hesitate to check out goodwill and ebay. you never know what you might find.

If and when do you lower your standards?
bojangles replied to no worries's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
i hold out for B&C animals exclusively, till opening day. on opening day, i'll shoot anything. -
for whiteys, i'd be glassing in the morning and sitting water in the afternoon, maybe starting 11-12 to dark. sometimes if it rains that afternoon, the deer will be on their feet, so hunting after a monsoon in critical. and i'd be taking notes as to where i was seeing does, and hunt those areas during the rut. find some good game trails leading through browse areas, and hang some stands and play the wind come january. it's easier to kill a deer out of a treestand than any other way. of course, if you're in the desert, this isn't an option. sometimes, you have to find a buck or two, and just sit there and watch him for a couple of days before you make a move on him, to the point where you already know what he's doing and where he's going. this is also known as "scouting". lol.

you may consider hiring a guide. if this is going to be your first hunt, and your daughter is involved, and you want this to be a memorable experience for the both of you, it could be money well spent.

$40 or trade for a Remington Sendero 300 Win Mag with a Nightforce scope. It works.

Sold to buglechaser. Thx.

The prices are unfathomable. I bought a new pse on clearance last fall for like 500$. That was a big spend for po' folk like us. I hope it pays for itself in game meat real quickly.

Funny, ive never had one jump the string. The last buck i shot,i missed the first time, shot over his back, nocked another and drilled him. He never knew i was there, even after the first miss. I was waaaaay up a tree, and he was looking around for me but just couldn't locate me. Hope i stay blessed!!!

i live just up the road from willow, you can rent my 17 ft grumman canoe if you like. it's an old style canoe, not with all the gizmo's on the newer ones, but it's sturdy and doesn't leak.

i tried a climber this january, and liked it. you don't have to worry about those pesky screw in steps, either. of course, they don't work in a juniper tree so well.

That's my buck leave him alone haha. i'm gonna stick an arrow in him the first chance i get.

i've commented on this topic before in other threads. i found a muley last year in a desert unit, with a trillion tags that i would shoot on opening day of a strip hunt if it took me 25 years to draw the tag. he's incredible, probably the biggest 4x4 i've ever seen. i don't know if somebody's killed him last year or not. i watched him all morning on my bro's whitetail hunt. i went after him in january, and another hunter i met had a pic of him on his phone that he took at 120 yards, the previous year, when he looked to be 180 ish, but this year he looked to me to be 200 and no trash either. but a whitetail tempted me and my arrow found his heart. so, i'm buying bonus point number 8. i can't pull the string on a deer till next january, and while i have no regrets on the whitetail, it's a tough wait, knowing he could still be out there, and there's 3 seasons of deer hunting he has to survive between now and january, and i don't think he'll make it based on where i found him. so, do i keep waiting for the strip tag, or, hunt a more familiar unit. every year i kill a deer with my bow, the decision is easy.

how are you at handling regret?

I wasn't going to say anything hoping I'd be out there by myself but it looks like the cat is out of the bag.lol. Good luck to all.

indianapolis. that's a fine midwestern deer killer right there.

you look familiar. i think i met you hunting a few miles south of payson 2 januarys ago. we were both looking at the same mule deer, your buddy and i were both stalking that buck. good to see you on here. i also live in star valley. good luck with the rental.

yes, they make you buy to maps to get unit 22, and they don't split it at the border of 22n and 22s. so, you have to get 2 maps to get 22s. it's called a "racket".

i'm not even sure what back country is, technically, but the word seems to be tossed around a lot by the who's who of richy rich hunting kids. look, i'm not gonna buy some $350 pants, but i would like to get in there to some solitude some day. not sure when my life is gonna calm down to that point, but hopefully i can pull it off some time soon, like maybe a couple of days this fall. is it all that and a jelly samwich? i've been looking lustfully at some maps and some places on google earth, wondering if there's any critters out there, or just tumble weeds and rattle snakes.
