    moon phases

Full moon - is brighter (duh) more time feeding staying in the openings and moving at night to stray away from predators. ---> so look for those bucks moving from open hill sides to thick canyon bottoms at first light. ---> New moon - is darker ( ) less time feeding and moving around ---> so look for them moving in the open hills at first light other phases are a toss up .......... just my 2 cents and experience

    37B HAM - 2011

37b is a good unit for pig. the population has gone down a bit cause of disease. Me and my buddy got our archery pigs in janurary. back over tiger mine road. had seen 2 different herds of 6-9 pigs each,MAKE SURE YOU BUY YOUR ARCHERY DEER TAG COUPLE BIG MULIES OFF OF TIGER MINE ROAD BUT HARD TO SNEAK ON. black hills have couple decent pigs herds but more harsh hikes which i think is good cause less hunters oh and good luck!!! i'm going over to 36abc archery

    2010 Coues Hunt

keep at it, i belive that the full moon has them up most of the night feeding and moving to stray away from wondering predators. wind will put deer down all day i witnessed it saturday saw 5 bucks before 8 am and saw nothing the rest of the day due to wind. Work above the canyons and make a lot of noise throwing rocks and talking once in awhile every 80-100 yards or so. Deer hold tight and walk out the bottoms in most of my cases. Deer are a lot smarter than people think they are.

Catching a camera thief on camera

And don't forget you dug the pit when you go to check on your cams well you come from behind to unhook your cam instead of in front of it.

    An Ethical Hunting Dilemma

OK, so you're out hunting and it's the beginning of the rut, bucks and does are running around like they have no brain whatsoever, you know your buddy is in the next blind over and you're both hoping to get a deer on opening weekend, when all of a sudden you look out to your left and see this..... * * * .....What are you supposed to do? Do you shoot the one with the bigger rack.......or the gay one?
  13. dam good deer 118-122 - long tines, 4x5, main beams almost touch, nice guards . .. . . i would give him one more year for more mass, but that is a dandy

    Camo on a rifle hunt?

wearing an orange hat is not stupid a lot of deer have not busted me wearing an orange hat. also you can see other hunters and know that area has already been pushed, i hate when i push a canyon and get to the top of a saddle and run into a guy that said i just came threw there and only saw a cottontail. i'm all for camo i wear it every hunt (and sometimes it doesn't match) i'm only 23 and seen to many close calls with me and other overcrowded areas with hunters not wearing orange. if your making your way down into the canyon, and hear one shot from the other side. you look up and hear another shot . . . soon there something tearing threw the brush to your left and coming fast . . .then a big buck jumps out and almost runs you over and hear hear another shot go right over your head. you would be thinking i wish i had an orange hat . . then this guy shooting at the deer woulda seen me come over this hill along time ago and wouldn't of shot near me!!

    Unit 31 Info

hunting up top off 366 will be cold but you can't see very far, a lot of still hunting. i would rather be out in the desert off 266 only thing is if you don't do a least one day of scouting your going to have a tough time getting on one cause there will be plenty of hunters. i got my spot that is hard to hunt and hard to access. come on oct. 22 got two ok bucks spotted this is what game and fish said ------ Tripp Canyon - Take SR 70 to west of Safford between Pima and Ft. Thomas. Go southwest on Klondyke road to FS 351, follow FS 351 and hunt side canyons and upper reaches. The Eureka Springs Ranch was sold and several new roads have been placed throughout the ranch. Several of these roads are located on private property and are not accessable to the public. If you have hunted this area in the past it is recommended to do some pre-season scouting. Early season hunting is possible in the cool timbered areas along Hwy. 366 (Swift Trail) for those hunter skilled in hunting the timber types. This area is very steep and the 8000'+ elevation makes hiking difficult but provides a lightly hunted deer resource. Still-hunting and glassing are the most successful hunting techniques for all units Klondyke Area - Take SR 70 to Klondyke road between Pima and Ft. Thomas. Follow to intersection of Bonita road. Go North towards Aravaipa Canyon Area. Access has changed since the 2006 seasons. If you plan to hunt these areas in 2007 it is recommended that you visit the area prior to you hunt opening
  19. Well yesterday i went out to do some scouting and saw couple deer. Well it all starts with me trying to find a way into the foothills. turns out there is a gate thats locked ohh shut gotta turn around. went to another area but this time no locked gate, yaaayyyy!!! drove down saw 1 other truck and pulled off the road to do some glassing (11:00 am) didn't see anything but heard water flowing. got out of the truck walked down to the water saw couple of tracks. walked back up to the truck to see how far i could get down the road with my truck. well bought 1/2 mile down the road it turns to pure rock. i turned around and back to where i previously turned off to hike out into the hills. Got my pack ready and headed down an old road that runs along the river. As i'm walking down this road i'm thinking this is perfect for deer, plenty of shade, the river isn't to loud, nice cool afternoon they probably will let me walk right by them. There is all kinds of deer tracks in and along this road, found couple puddles with tracks. Also at these puddles there were these huge butterflies (i'm guessing monarche??) After playing around with the butterflies i countinue down the path. Remamber when i said they probably let me walk right by them!!! Well it almost happened. I'm minding my own business walking down this path wondering if i should put a camera up. Then i get the chills like something is watching me! i look ahead and see nothing and slowly look to my right . . . . . and (scared the crap out of me) oh shi_ there's a deer right there!!! it was doe at 10 yards!!! I didnt have a point and shoot with me, and since it wasn't a buck i was gunna leave it alone. The doe didn't flinch just watched me walk on by. wishing i could get a picture i remember my cell phone in my pocket. I turned it on and walk 15 yards back up the road to take the picture. She still didn't move an inch, i snap the picture and it was fuzzy. I erased it and took another picture that was a lot better. saved it and was getting for another picture. this time took three steps torward her. And she didn't like it. she flagged but didn't run just wallked off. She did a little half circle back out in front of me but this time a little farther out but she is in the sun this time. (pictures 12:45 pm) well after all the excitement i made my way out into the flats to find a rock in the shade to eat a snack. well i'm scanning all over below the saddle for a deer layin in the shade. I'm not seeing anything see a bunch of fake deer legs and butts. I eat my little snack and re scan this hill still not seeing anything. But low and behold i see a deer moving @ 600-700 yards away. It was a buck also not a very big one but heck i'll shoot it for my fisrt deer kill. I didn't want to move cause there might be more deer and din't want them to bump into him (this was about 1:45pm) he finally went over the saddle at 2:20 pm. i packed up and headed out torwards the saddle it takes a long time going threw couple small gorges. by time i get up there there is a big trail used by couple deer. i happened to pick up a really old shed i'll load a pic of it later but i can say it was a nice 3x_, but couldn't find the other side. i get up to the saddle and there is a gate that a rancher put in without a lock!! what luck!! it took me all but 2 hours though So i sit down again and started to glass but not seeing anything. i take a second look at a green tank at the bottom of hill to see if there is water in it. and just north of it (my side) a deer is walking back torward me. I can't put any antlers on it. i watch it feeding along and then it went on full alert. i look in the direction it's looking and can't see anything. well the deer is jsut sitting there for several minutes on full alert. well it finally calms down and starts feeding again. i look to where the deer was looking before and there is another deer but this one looks a little bigger (body wise) and i think i saw some antlers, if it was a buck it was smaller than the one i saw before. Long staory short i have an hour before sunset so i head back torwards the truck OMG my gps says 5500 feet northwest.. in rough terrain with lots of boulders and rocks. i made it to my truck at 6:05 almost pitch dark along the river with tons of oak trees. on my way out i took a picture of what was remaining of the sunset all in all 2/3 of a day hike wasn't that bad and now i can make i plan on taking my first buck been trying to take big antler deer for my fisrt and i think that has hurt me since i passed up couple forks

    Unit 27 Turkey

ya stay up north.. i've seen turkey all over up there in meadows, on logging roads, driving down 191, turkeys travel all day to avoid predators. in the fall it is really hard to hunt these critters cause they don't make a noise, they see color, and every burnt stump looks like a turkey, my tactic would be find a chain meadows or a meadow that you have seen turkey before. set up along the meadow before first light . . and hopefully they come down and within range. during the day i would drive some back roads since turkey travel all day . . .chances are you'll see one the more you drive. and then for evening hunt try spotting them in meadows if there is none in the meadow your looking in go to the next.
