    What does AZGFD do exactly?

Brian thanks for the professional response. There are a lot of Monday morning quarterbacks in all sports. Ours is no exception. I have fished and hunted Arizona big game from North of Flagstaff to the Mexican border on the South and East to the New Mexico border since 1959. Over the years I have seen several up and down cycles in big game and small game populations. The Department has, in my opinion, done a very good job in spite of public pressure, political pressure, special interest groups, funding problems, hiring freezes, internal turmoil, droughts, wild fires, new directors and new commission members. The list could go on and on. You folks have a huge task and you get it done. I am grateful for the Department's efforts that have given us sustainable populations of big game, fish and non-game species as well as some great programs for kids and the non hunting public. Thank You

    OK I'm posting the pics!

Love it. Caught in the act. The guy in the RMEF hat looks like he is armed for the revolution. Sure hope someone recognizes this dufus. As I mentioned in my previous post it would be interesting to know if these guys also collect trail cams. It wouldn't surprise me.

    Should I Post these pics?

The only way to stop these clowns is show the world that they are thieves. It would be interesting to know if they also collect trail cams. My guess is they will steal anything that isn't nailed down or chained to a tree. I would be careful to just post the facts without making accusations. The facts will speak for themselves. Post the pics.

2011 Elk Hunts (I love to hunt elk)

Congratulations to all. Thanks for the great stories. I actually had an adrenalin rush reading about Clark's hunt. That story plus 2 cups of strong coffee had me hyped and feeling like I was there. I can relate to your sister and the lever action. My first Coues hunt was when I was 12 years old. I was carrying a lever action Winchester 25-35. My brother said I could empty the magazine before the first piece of brass hit the ground. Your sister got the job done and that is what counts.

    Bino Bib

We all have our likes and dislikes for various "gear" items. I found one that really works for me. It is made right here in Arizona.(YES MADE IN THE USA) The Bino Bib is a product from the same people that make Scopecoat. www.scopecoat.com This little item is a binocular cover and protection device that is exceptionally light weight, well made, easy to clean, simple to use and it really works. It takes the place of front and rear lens caps, binocular bags, covers etc. I put it to the test for 10 days of hard use in rain, freezing temperatures and dirt while crawling on my stomach and banging on rocks. This product beats anything I have used over the years. It is made of neoprene laminated between layers of a woven synthetic material. It stretches to fit your binoculars tightly. It comes in a variety of sizes and hunter friendly and socially acceptable colors. You can access your binoculars quickly with one hand even if you have gloves on. I recommend Bino Bib without reservation and suggest that you go to their website. One other thing is that Sandy and Annie in the Phoenix office are exceptionally pleasant and accommodating. I wanted a Bino Bib to take with me on a recent hunt and needed it in 2 days. They suggested that I to come to their office in Phoenix. I did that and must say it was a very pleasant surprise. I plan to have a custom cover made for my range finder and purchase a handful of Scopecoats for myself as well as Christmas presents for friends and family.

    shotgun shell suggestions

I have used #1 buck with a modified or full choke for many years. I agree chokes do matter but I have never had a coyote question the choke. They drop like a sack of potatoes.

    How good does Javelina taste

I think we have a bunch of optimists on the forum. The question is "how good does javelina taste?". The quick and direct answer is not very good. Lark and Tucson John have a good approach....bury it. Bill Quimby adds an interesting twist. He places it on a board and then buries it. Perhaps Bill meant to say that he puts it in a plywood casket and then buries it. When I was in college we had a Basset Hound that really enjoyed barking at the cooked meat and then rolling on it. I was born and raised in Southern Arizona and consumed more javelina meat than I care to think about. All kidding aside, if you can't give it away, it can be disguised pretty well in green chili stew or in tamales.... but good.....???? Nope I haven't tried the jerky but think I will stick to other red meat for jerky.

    Prosecute Eric Holder

Fast and Furious was set up to be used as a springboard for more Firearms Regulation. Fresh information from left wing CBS News. Fast and Furious didn't even pass the "sniff test" at their offices. Very interesting facts that are worth reading. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31727_162-57338546-10391695/documents-atf-used-fast-and-furious-to-make-the-case-for-gun-regulations/

    dads nice coues

Glad you decided to join the forum. Congratulations to your dad on a real nice buck. This is nostalgia for me since I was with my father when he shot his last Coues buck a bunch of years ago. Also please do post the story. It is great to read these any time of the year. Welcome.

    Prosecute Eric Holder

Lark I agree. This guy has a track record of being a slimey scum bag. I think your 3 dozen estimate might be real low.

    I Finally Did It!

Good show!! Thanks for the link. I enjoyed your story and know the thrill of that first bull. That part never goes away. Each succeeding bull will give you the same "rush". The problem with that is it fuels the fire to hunt bigger bulls and makes the annual waiting game for drawing results almost unbearable. There is something about bull elk that stirs primitive instincts in all hunters. Congratulations.

Jackson Pulls A Double On His 1st Hunt!

Congratulations to all of you. Great memories from this hunt will last forever. Tracy thanks for a great writeup. It is a little weird but I actually had a little adrenalin rush while reading the kill sequence for the buck. I especially commend you for your dedication and patience to take so much time to make sure these boys have wonderful memories.
  22. Last week we were watching 5 Coues does when 2 of them began a boxing match. They stood up and began flailing at each other with their front hooves. My buddy said it looked like 2 kangaroos going at it.

    blackpowder on an airliner

Lark I researched this 2 years ago and again in August of this year. The regulations are pretty clear since loose powder is considered explosive. Although they don't address Pyrodex or Blackhorn 209 or other black powder substitutes specifically I was told it is not legal. Also caps and or primers are out. I had a friend in Colorado buy powder and primers for me. At the end of the season I leave them at his home. It is a minor pain but I don't need to sweat the Federal regs. when I fly. It does seem odd that the regs allow loaded ammunition in a locked gun case or in luggage if declared. I also asked Southwest Airlines about plastic tubes of premeasured charges of black powder substitute in my locked gun case. They said this would considered to be "explosives". Go Figger.
