  1. Old 1 gallon milk/water jugs filled with water thrown in the freezer saves from buying blocks of ice every trip

    BW

Another benefit of this trick is that as your trip goes on you have lots of cold water to refill your canteen or hydration pack, as the ice melts in the jugs. Just want to make sure you use clean jugs and good drinking water if you plan to do this.

    Even better

For what it is worth...in addition to the frozen water in milk jugs I freeze milk, orange and tomato juice in the original containers as well as anything that isn't going to be consumed the first night or next day. All of this helps keep your camp food cold for an extended trip.

  3. Earlier this week I tried to log into our website and received an error message. After trying to access CWT.com using 2 different browsers I sent a "HELP" email to Amanda. In typical fashion she came to the rescue. She also explained that the Discussion Forum has become so popular and widely used that the server couldn't handle the volume. Nice problem to have but....the only fix was a new server.

Our favorite website is "free". That is somewhat of misnomer. Someone pays for maintenance and additional server capacity. Our SOMEONE is Amanda Moors.

If you use this site and it has value or interest to you it is time to step up to the plate and make a donation. $5.00 or $10.00 would be or more would be nice. Use the PayPal button. It is quick and easy. If you don't use PayPal please send a check or money order to Amanda.

Think about it. We burn a lot of powder and primers or bend and break a lot of arrows and don't think much about the cost. How about one of the best sources of information for our sport. Please join me and DONATE.

    Thanks

  4. I have been using the AZ Topo for 2 years. Great stuff.

As Arizona Griz mentioned you can toggle back and forth between maps using the drop down menu in your Garmin 60 series. This is a menu that some of you may not have seen before. Once you know where how to find the drop down menu it is really handy to change maps in the field. It is also a real eye opener when you realize that there are trails shown on one map set that don't appear on another.....or the trail that is supposed to be "here" does not exist. I also use Garmin Southwest 24K , which is not free, in conjunction with the AZ Topo. The SW 24K is an excellent piece of software. Check it out also. It will fill in a lot of blanks when you are in the field.

Yes this is a free download but as with all free access sites someone is supporting it. Make a donation and help this guy keep up his site.

If you can't find the drop down menu in your Garmin send me a PM and I will walk you through it.

  5. Unit 29 landowner access can be difficult. I suggest that you contact the Unit 29 Game Manager for advice. In some cases foot access is given with permission. Be prepared for some serious climbing and long days. Do your homework now before you drive down there. Also check with the USFS in Tucson about road closures due to the fire.

If you hunt down there....buy a lion tag.

    Good Luck.

  6. I have 2 pairs of binoculars. I carry 10 X 40 Zeiss for walking around etc. There are great and I have had them for 20 years. In January I purchased a pair of 15 x 56 Vortex Kaibabs. They are an excellent. I spent a week using them for extended periods of glassing using both a tripod and a pair of steady sticks. As with the Zeiss glasses I experienced very little eye fatigue. My aging eyes don't like poor optics. Carrying the 15x56's with a good harness was no big deal. The price differences between Zeiss or Swarovski and Vortex is significant. I recommend the Vortex for the money spent.

  7. I purchased my Kaibab 15 x 56's in January and really put them to the test in February for a full week of glassing. I am completely satisfied with them. My regular carry binocs are Zeiss 10 x 40s. The Kaibabs are every bit as bright and clear. The Zeiss may be a little sharper at the edge of the field. You cannot go wrong with the Kaibab's. Recommend the Slik Pro 330 DX tripod to put under your Kaibab's. Also do your eyes a favor and purchase a pair of the binocular eye shields that Amanda offers in the CWT Store.

  8. I just spent 5 days glassing a lot of country for extended periods of time. My new Eye Shields fit the Vortex Kaibab Binoculars perfectly. Previous to installing the Shields I ended the day with eye strain, headache and my contacts felt like cornflakes. No more!!! These things work. Also the image is noticibly more crisp They also fit my Zeiss 10 x 40's.

Thanks for offering this product Amanda.

  9. Dewey you are a craftsman.

I agree with Bill Quimby's post and suggest that you take him up on his offer. He has credibility in the literary world that will give you a boost if you choose to write about this adventure.

My opinion, for what it is worth, is that you can make a major contribution to your people and the preservation of your culture by creating a traditional bow, these arrows and by crafting some stone points. I am impressed that you have discussed this project with your tribal elders. They must be proud that you are interested in preserving the "old ways". Please continue along this path. It will prove invaluable to younger members of your tribe. It is truly sad that so many indigenous traditions, crafts and customs die with the elders. Carry the torch for the next generation and keep your proud heritage alive.

  10. About shooting more than 200 yards or use the pistol range or the metallic silhouette range at Rio Salado and Ben Avery......you must first join as an annual member, then contact (join) the shooter group that is charge of the particular range segment and then participate in a couple of their matches. Then it is up to the group whether they will allow you to use that range unsupervised and on your own. To me this sounds a lot like some sort of ritual initiation at the local country club. Personally I have zero desire to participate in a match competition of any kind. I enjoy the shooting sports period. The competition side is of no interest to me. I like to enjoy a few hours at the bench punching paper. Why do these facilities advertise that they are open to the public.

  11. My T/C Triumph Bone Collector has the famous tight T/C bore. I solved the problem completely with Harvester Muzzle Loading's Crush Rib high pressure sabots. They even offer one designed for boat tail bullets like the Barnes. I shoot the Harvester Scorpion PT Gold ballistic tip bullets and Barnes bullets with these sabots on top of B209. Accuracy is excellent, they seal properly and load easily.

  12. Harvester Crush Rib High Pressure 50 cal. Sabots for use with .45 cal. boat tail bullets (Barnes or??). 1 package of 50 sabots.

These are the Yellow EZ Load Sabots. $9.00 (They load easier than any I have ever used. Great accuracy)

Hodgdon Triple Seven Pellets for in line muzzle loaders. One sealed box of 100 pellets never opened and 1 open box with 30 pellets remaining. $35.00 for both boxes. These are all fresh pellets which I purchased locally withing the last 5 months.
