    Dick's (sporting goods) shriveling up

I wound up buying a Remington from them when they first came to town. A few kayaks, and accessories. I hit the "hunting section" as bleak as it may be, as a way to kill time when going in for other stuff for the kids.

    Mothers Day Gift Ideas...Please share

My advice is to all the single dudes out there... (yeah, we all got moms....) Do your research. Plan. and check the calendar. Met my lady (been 4 years now),... didn't do the math. Her birthday is Saturday and mothers day is sunday. Not that they're my kids,..but in the role of "Fake Dad", I still have to adhere to the mothers day rule (She says I don't have to, but im not falling for that trap). I thought... her birthday is in May, spring bird is a couple of weeks before that...im safe. My lady was nice to me this year. She sent me a link list to about a dozen amazon items, and I just had to pick a few from me for her birthday and from "us" for mothers day. Cant really help the OP'er. Emily's item were home decor, jewelry hangers and a phone case

    Late Hunt

nothing for us in 23. We worked a single tom, a couple of days. then finally had some good back and forth with one bird Monday morning. The tom answered, and was really going after our calls, well except for the "going" part. HE never came out or over to where we were at. The brush was too thick and dry to try to get closer to him. It was also very "switchy"... after a certain time each morning, everything would just stop. In the deeper valleys, it was just after 7. on the open hills it was about 530.... pray for rain for next year. Most of the tanks we seen were dry.

    Second Season Success

glad to see someone nab one. we didn't have any success in 23
  6. The Tonto restrictions start tomorrow, but the Prescott ones start Friday. Just passing the info along for all the gobbler getters out there, and families looking to escape into the forest. I know that will change up how many extras were going to come up to "help" on our turkey hunt. Should be a peaceful weekend now. ha ha https//:firerestrictions.us/az/ (couldn't get the hyperlink to copy and paste, so for the actual info, might need to copy it into your browser, or search az fire restrictions)

Mr. Heather Big Buddy Propane Heater

I have one I use in my pop up and my other buddy bought the fittings to use his where his stove would be in his pop up. I think in general, the canvas of both the pop up and the framed tents breathes enough. We usually only use ours for about 30 minutes before bed (to take the chill off) and then one of us gets up about an hour before we get up to turn it on for the morning. There was an elk trip that temps were below freezing and we ran it all night. for around 25 bucks, you can get a battery Co2/oxygen monitor to keep in the tent (I got mine from depot). --- I also splurged, and got the adapter fittings, and hoses to run it off the bigger tanks. I leave the tank outside the camper and run the hose into the camper. Nothing like being sad and disappointed when you here the pop and flash from the burn out 10 minutes after lighting it at 4 in the morning from a 1 pound can.

    Fire restrictions start 4-18-2018

im fine with closing the forest, but can it be AFTER my turkey tag. I will even forego any source of heat. I can drink beer huddled around the led at night just fine. Already willing to give up the fire pit, for the propane fire ring. But let me try to chase my gobbler and then put the lock across it

    Interested in kayaks

Well, time to get technical.... So a sit in, you're actually closer to the water with a lower center of gravity. The sit on tops, are thicker (its gotta be able to float, so its more like a hard pool toy inflatable kinda deal). I had a coleman canoe for about 20 years, and then had kayaks about the last 5 of that. I got the chance to go out in perception swifty's (they run about 250 new) that a girlfriend had. they were great,...well she wasn't. after she left, she decided she was taking her kayaks with her. I wanted the sitins, to be more like kayaking and less like canoeing. the first thought when it comes to kayaking is "how do you get it upright after you roll it". Well you don't roll it, for one. Number two,.. wether you have a sit in or on, there's pretty much no getting back into either in open water. We tried it in the pool. have to be able to crawl out of the water on something that's not stationary (otherwise you wouldn't have tipped in the first place). Sure, crud happens. In my 20 years of the canoe, I dumped it twice. (friends kid caught her shoe at blue ridge when getting out, and right in I went; the other was in experience trying it out on the salt). as the purchaser of a kayak you need to figure out what the purpose of it is. keel lines on the bottom will make traveling straight or quicker through the water. If you equate it to quads... I have a trophy 126. (well, technically 4 of em).theyre fishing kayaks. I used them on the salt river, on the lake with kids in my lap, and for fishing. theyre flat bottomed and wide, like the old Honda ranchers. and then theyres kayaks like the swiftys that are more like the sport model of a quad. designed for straighter travel , keel line for cutting water easier etc. then there are the "banshee" style kayaks, that are used for class 5 rapids, that are designed to be able to fit the question "how do you roll back over when sitting in it" If you ever come up topt the valley you can try mine. I can haul all four of mine in a shortbed pickup (I just dangle them out the back) or 2 on top of the wife's Cherokee just fine. A cheap utility rack and I can take everything I need for the lake (for the group) in my truck. 4 kayaks, a folding picnic table, ice chest, and tailgate grill. sorry for hijacking the thread, hope it helps

Dicks has a big variety. I bought 3 of the Trophy 125s, theyre sit in, but pretty nice. im 5'10" but have taken taller people out with me and they seem to fit pretty good. might have to make the trek up to Tucson to find one

Lets talk battery operated led lanterns

hybrid lights, (www.azhybrindlight.com) had a booth at the expo. theyre pretty awesome. So I k now that the gilbert pd cadets were selling the flashlights as theyre fundraiser for two years. one of my buddies bought one. At the G&F expo, he had the flashlights and a couple of lanterns. all of his stuff has a built in solar charger, and a conventional wall charger. also has a port to charge your phone.pretty light weight stuff. and of course, cheaper on amazon.
  13. don't think I will get to go. Didn't file my request early enough with the appropriate management. ha ha ha. Was curious though, I wanted to ask what the early summer temperatures would do to the strut?

    Camper Rental?

Anyone here ever rented a camper? If so, who from? Ive got an older coleman popup, but was looking to splurge for a weekend with my lady. Mainly because she enjoys things like walls and a shower (not that she doesn't enjoy camping, but this is supposed to be for her birthday). So I came up with the idea of maybe renting a small camper for the two of us to get out and enjoy the outdoors without the usual circus of family on our regular camping trips. Ive got a 1/2 ton so im not worried about pulling something for the 2 of us. But a quick google search let me to a couple of sites, and craigslist. Most of them were a 3 night minimum at $100 a night. At that rate, I can find a pretty nice airbnb place for the two of us. (because we can only go up Friday to Sunday) I was just curious if anyone had ever done this before

    Camper Rental?

My lady booked an AIRBNB last night... A mile from downtown flag. Hopefully it has a spot to stash my kayaks, and we don't wake up the host that stays below the rental when we come back from the flagstaff night life

    Camper Rental?

sorry, yeah. $100 isn't a bad price. Id be okay with that. But all the places I found were a 3 night (not day) minimum. So we'd have to shell out $300 for the weekend, with the first night hooked to the truck in front of the house, because we can only go for 2 nights. Might just have to stick to the airbnb for the 3day/2 night timeline

Gila county pushing forest service to close forest

Shoot, cmon guys this is the first spring bird tag in 3 years for me... don't lock the gate yet. Actually, I wonder how many government officials have weighed the long term affects. Sure it might be bad for the economy to close the forest for the summer. But wouldn't it be worse to lose the resources for 20 years if the fire wipes out everything and their isn't a successful timber stand for decades? I got a whole bunch of unfilled tags in the gearbox at the garage. I would gladly give up this spring hunt to know that some idiot with a sparkler isn't going to burn the state to the ground.

Crossbows aren't allowed on the HAM hunt, at least not according to the person I talked to at game and fish
  23. might have to bring an assistant. ha ha. Either way... dove meat is dove meat. And plus getting to shoot some eurasions without the fear of every Tom Dick and harry raining pellets down in every direction like in regular season is worth it. Pulled into a spot once, albeit not the first ones there... Gotten out of the truck, and within 5 minutes of getting there, we got peppered at the truck. I can understand being tucked away in the bush and being in the flight path... but standing next to a black f350... guy said "oh, didn't see you there".....
  24. you share your secret eurasion spot with me, and I will clean your birds. ha ha
