    application number drop article

Agree with economics...not just about affording the tag, but the gas for scouting trips, etc. Also agree with the supply and demand references. It seems that all the surveys suggest you have to be either a trophy hunter or have more opportunity to hunt. I think they have neglected to recognize the bulk of hunters who want a QUALITY EXPERIENCE rather than the other option. I would be interested to see if they look at their data to see which "group" they are losing. Plus, I think that those buying bonus points should still be included as an applicant, but cannot tell from the article if they are included in the numbers. We all know this, but Arizona seems to have a changing demographics of citizens. Many without an outdoors experience or background. I fear that this article suggests and on-line/credit card system may be on its way back. I don't mind on-line apps, but I do believe in the pay it forward/front the money system....rather than allowing people to use credit cards. JMHO.

"The Draw" and a new topic....

We have been checked a few times. Units 10, 8, 18B, 20B, and 34B. All good encounters. Very positive enteractions with WM's and the few supervisors who have checked us. Been checked a few times when I have taken out my nephews, and they have all been good in talking with the kids. I would say most of the time we were asked to show license and tag. We were checked by the old WM (not the current guy) in 34B like 5 years ago. He checked us in the field after we harvested a buck. I guess he glassed the whole thing, because he showed up out of nowhere (we were not close to a road) after we started cleaning the buck. He offered to help us if needed. Nice guy.

    223 for Coues?

You can use a 223. Some will say you shouldn't, and there may be 'better' choices out there for some. We have a 223 and have had good results with it on our Coues hunts. My wife harvest her first Coues deer with our Savage 223. Since then, I have taken a couple more. All three were one shot kills. One was broadside, one quartering away, and one quartering to. Range of 75 yards to 220 yards. All three traveled less than 50 yards before expiring. We really feel confident shooting really well with that rifle and round. Shot placement is always important regardless of caliber. We use Federal Premium 60 gain w/ Nosler Parition. We have gotten great accuracy out of this round along with really good penetration and solid results. We have the rifle sighted in at 200 yards. I will try and dig up some field photos of entry and exits wounds if you would like.

    Velbon Sherpa 600RA Users

So, I just picked up the Sherpa 600 from CWT and need to pick out a head. Does anyone have a specific recommendation of a head that will fit this tripod? As you can tell, I don't know much about tripods and such. Does anyone know if the Manfrotto 700RC2 fit the tripod I have?

    Help with Wooly Worms?

I was always taught those were Woolly Worms, but have had more luck with Wooly Buggers myself. All my tieing stuff is packed away from the move, or I would be willing to help you out. Sorry man. I have seen them sold at Sportsmens before years ago.

    Blinds and or Decoys.

I used a couple Montana Decoy's last year on my archery hunt. They worked like a charm. However, when using it in a different unit a few years earlier, it only seemed to make all the antelope run the other way. The biggest reason for the difference, in my mind, was knowing when and how to use it. Trying to set up between a buck and his does is best. I used a buck decoy in combo with a doe, and just the doe by herself. Both worked great in different situations. Can be a pain getting them into the ground in a hurry. On a side note, a buddy let me borrow his Montana cow decoy. I think I liked the Zebu better because it has the slits in it to prevent it from acting like a wind sail in your hands.
  21. Just wanted to let everyone know that I received an email from the committee last week making sure my address was correct. Looks like I will be getting my copy. I feel bad about my negative comments but didn't have much faith at the time. Glad to be proven wrong on this one and look forward to seeing the finished product. Thanks StickFlicker and others for your work on this.

    Tips for Turkeys

I have a couple camera's that I started using last fall. I have a spring turkey hunt and was wondering if anyone out there has ever set up their camera's specifically for turkeys. Some of you have posted some pics of birds. Is there anything you put out to help get turkeys to stop by?
