Ray Evridge of Evridge knives passes away.

I spoke to Ray in early August and, as usual, he seemed in good spirits. The passing of good ones, like Ray, should make us all appreciate being alive and able to contribute. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed. Ray left a good mark.
  6. Hunts for Heroes (AZ Elk Society), along with HEALY Arms, will be holding a hunting clothing drive this weekend at Healy Arms in Tempe At least FIFTY PERCENT of the disabled Arizona military vets that Hunts for Heroes takes out hunting (via Az. G&F's tag transfer program) have never hunted big game. That said, many of these vets are just not adequately prepared when it comes to appropriate clothing and gear needed for their outings. To overcome this problem, the Arizona Elk Society's Hunts for Heroes program hatched the idea of a "Camo Closet". A program to gather up donations new or lightly used camouflage and cold weather clothing that folks have at home that is not getting used. We'd be looking for camouflage clothing, hunting boots (insulated or not), gloves, knit hats, plus cold weather clothing that could be worn under leafy wear/ghillie suits. We need camping and hunting gear too! No Donation is too small - everything matters. When: Saturday, Aug. 26 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Mark has okayed extra Thurs, Friday & Sunday Aug. 24/25/27 drop-off for those who can't make it Saturday the 26th) Where: Healy Arms / 1809 E. Baseline Rd., Tempe, Az. 85283 (SE corner McClintock/Baseline, 1/2 mile south of Superstition Fwy) Thanks, everybody --- we'll see you at Healy's Tom Wagner / AZ Elk Society Cell: (480)760-3868
  7. Sorry for the double post - I must have missed the one Tom put up. But yes - two heads-up for a good cause is A-Okay. We've been getting busy with the hunting seasons approaching. I want to get as many donations as possible rounded up early - hoping for a good turnout.
  8. Having taken a few questions from readers, we’d like to update everyone on the following issues & questions: What type of lights can be used for nighttime hunting in AZ for mountain lions: The regulations only state that “artificial light” can be used so long as it is NOT affixed or tethered to any motor vehicle. Therefore you can use a white light, a red lens cover, a green lens cover, or whatever color of light you believe best. Can night vision equipment be used? Yes. Ron Day from the AZ Game and Fish said the department is currently “neutral” on night vision, there’s no specific regulation covering it, and it is okay to use for night hunting mountain lions and coyotes. Mr. Day added that the use of such equipment would be evaluated as time goes by and more data comes in from the field and other game management agencies that allow its use. Are you sure that centerfire rifles CAN be used for hunting mountain lions after dark? Yes. I reconfirmed with Ron Day that the shotgun restriction is ONLY for nighttime coyote hunting. Lions can be taken at night with any legal firearm listed in the regulations including centerfire rifles. Does a multiple bag area close to nighttime lion hunting once the multi-bag quota has been reached? No. If the area is listed as a “Daylong Hours” hunting area it can still be hunted at night. The only change is that bag limit returns to one lion per calendar year in that area/unit. Where can I hunt once I tag a lion in a multiple bag unit? That depends. Mr. Day explained it this way: If you killed a lion in a multiple bag area that HAD NOT closed & reverted back to one per calendar year, that lion DOES NOT count toward your one lion per calendar year. So, you can still hunt lions anywhere in AZ that’s open to lion hunting including the areas that are one per calendar year. However, once you have killed a lion in an area that only allows one lion per calendar year (including a kill in a multi-bag area that reverted back to one per calendar year), you can only hunt in areas that are multiple bag and have not yet closed. Ron Day said that this is where a hunter could get into trouble and the hunter MUST call the Mt Lion hotline at 877-438-0447 BEFORE they head out so they are certain the area is still open. So far in AZ there have been a total of 2 lions taken after dark. Both were called in. Both were killed with a shotgun. One of the lions was called & killed by Wildlife Callers’ Field Pro Dave Martens and his shooter Dan Tone. The other successful lion callers are unknown to us. As always, thank you for reading. If you have any questions or comments please put them in the comments section below. Mark Healy info@wildlifecallers.com View the full article
  9. Before we put this rifle in the rack or sell it online we want to make it availble at a discount for Coues Whitetail members. If you've been looking for a traditional look, walnut & blued gloss finish rifle in a very useful caliber - this rifle is in excellent shape for it's age. It's manufacture date is 1981 has a few blems from a little field use, but it doesn't appear the gun has been fired many times. The chamber and the rifling are in great shape as is the bolt and receiver. The only thing missing is the rear sight that was likely removed to mount a scope and is easily replaced. The gun: Model - Rem 700 BDL Deluxe Caliber - 7mm Rem Mag Finish - Blued Stock - Walnut Gloss Barrel - 24" Extras - Leather Sling & Zipper Gun Bag from same era Price on the shelf: $589.00 Coues Whitetail Price: $495.00 Call us at 480-621-5555 to buy via phone / and yes we ship to an FFL anywhere it's legal to do so. I've already had an offer to buy it as a donor for the older "better" action, but if someone wants it to carry & use it like it is I will give them preference.

    Inmate Castration

This takes me back to being a beat patrolman. Grandpa & Grandma = burglars / their kids brought up that way = burglars / their kids, used by parents to facilitate burglaries and other crimes = future burglars/shoplifters/car thieves/meth users & cookers/prostitutes. Very vicious sad cycle. We often talked about how nice it would be to break that DNA chain. This judge's deal will, of course, fail constitutionality testing. I can hear the lawyers piling on already.

  15. We had a gentleman bring this GLOCK 20 Gen4 in as a trade and minus a holster mark here-n-there it is like brand new. I asked him why he was trading it - he told me it just didn't fit his hand well and really was too large a gun for anything other than open carry and home protection. He said it was not a pistol he could carry concealed and was not inclined to take it recreational shooting. That was apparent by the excellent condition. If you've ever contemplated having a 10mm, this would make a prefect hunting, camping, traveling pack along pistol. The 15+1 capacity is a bonus too. A powerhouse pistol with lots of fuel and GLOCK reliability. The GLOCK MAP Price on this gun new is $585.00 We have it at $499.00 and if you mention Coues Whitetail, take another $20 off - $106 in savings over new. $25 ships it anywhere in the lower 48 it's legal

    Monday Check in

Well... I unapologetically took 12 days off from the workout routine. My buddies all checked out for vacations and I just checked out - slept in every day. Went back to it 3 days ago this past Friday and surprisingly didn't notice much a loss of cardio. Went back Saturday for an incline hike at a gym and then hiked South Mountain on Sunday afternoon/evening (it was hot but not humid - not bad hiking weather really and the park was 99% empty). I'll get back to lifting tomorrow. Archery Elk is 12 weeks out - I don't have a tag for that but I have an invite. Don't need to be slackin' now.

DPMS AR15 Rifle Coues Whitetail Special - Until They'

I just sold one to a gentleman and his wife. He was hesitating and his wife said "you wanted to buy one when there was election worry and it was much more expensive - get it now" He's an owner. I've got to agree with her - I saw a guy buy a DPMS post ban with a fixed carry handle for $1700 after Sandy Hook. $399 is the right deal.
