    hunting from your back

Last year I think there were only a few dozen tags (out of 1500) left for SE corner hunt. Archery hunting is getting pretty popular. Maybe we should get G&F to start a spear and knife only Javalina hunt! Mark

Coues densities in 24A, then and now

My eight year old and I had a good day scouting in 24A. Not only did we find lots of whitetail sign, but we found Amanda too! We were driving down a dirt road when we came up behind a SUV with a CouesWhitetail.com decal. I pulled up along side to talk to them and it was Amanda and her husband. Small world! Anyway, I set up one game camera and started one salt lick, although from what you guys said, it maybe too late for this season. Anyway, scouting and hunting near Globe gives me an excuse to hit my favorite Mexican restaurant every weekend! Later

    trail lights

I recommend the Streamlight Green Trident head lamp. It has three lights in one compact head lamp that runs on 3 AAA batteries. It has a super bright "regular" light, and it has the white light LED light that run hundreds (thousands?) of hours. The third light is a green LED light that is incredibly useful to hike in the dark with. Human eyes see green light the best (that's why Night Vision is green). The green light makes it easy to hike into the dark without destroying your night vision. This has been the most useful piece of hunting equipment that I have purchased in a long time. I think that the Sportsman has them for about $28. Here's a link: http://www.streamlight-flashlights.com/green-trident.html Mark

Coues densities in 24A, then and now

Thanks! I live in North Phoenix, so that's why I was hunting in 6A. I still think 6A has coues potenital, but there is no archery rut hunt, so that's why I'm headed south. Mark
  6. I'm shopping for a bow for my 8 year old boy, and I'm trying to guess about what his draw length and weight will be when he is 11 or 12. If any of you have 11 or 12 year olds shooting, could you please post their draw length and weight that they are pulling? Thanks guys!

    Bow suggestions

How old is your son? I spent a few weeks researching kids compound bows, and put all the data in to an excel spread sheet. I'd be happy to send it to you (or anyone else) if you like, just email me at: mark.lucas@honeywell.com If you son is close to pulling 20lbs, the one I chose for my son and will be buying in the next few weeks is the Browning (PSE) Micro Midas 3. It's adjustable from 20 to 40 lbs., and 18 to 28'" draw length. The bow, rest, sight, quiver, and arrows goes for about $220. Hope that this helps! Mark

draw length and weight for kids

Thanks for all the good comments. I have decided on the Browning Micro Midas 3, the draw length goes from 18" to 28" and the weight from 20# to 40#. bowsniper
  9. I'm shopping for a game camera, and I'd rather not spend the big bucks for a digital camera, but I'm concerned that the mechanical noise of the film camera may spook the bucks so that they may not come back. Do you guys have any comments about this? Thanks

    Water

How much does the type of water hole matter? Would whitetails be less likley to come into a more open cow tank than say a small spring with lots of cover around it?
