Sportsmans Input Sought by ConserveandProtectAZ.org-Unit wide Raffle and Auction Tags
Ringer replied to Jay Scott's topic in The Campfire
I bet I did more by getting my Romanian employees to spread the word at their church of 1000 to harass the stinky California hippies gathering signatures on the lion deal. I also think that the raffle can be rigged so all tickets for a $20000 raffle get bought by one donor within minutes. We can fight them now or risk being another Utah. To trust Pete C would be a critical error IMO. Let us know as you get details on what they are proposing. -

You have to fill the form out for each contact then it goes through. The commission meeting May 4th is open to the public but it is Region 3 so have no idea on the location or times. Would be nice to have 20 or so show up just in case Cimerillo is there with his crew. -

Agree on that. Remind them of the last battle with USO and SFW and how many Arizona sportsmen came out to protest. I asked them to look up Don Peay and the Utah experiment. He uses a lot of the funds to lobby politicians and that will include the commission if they let him. We just need to rally as many people as we can to get to the meetings and to write them. -

He said only man made water sources so you should be good to go. Someone did ask that one.

I have a buddy that bought a 14' jon boat for his place up in Show Low. He is a big boy and when we launched at Fools Hollow I noticed there was only around 2" of freeboard at the transom with his fat arse back there. He got rid of it and bought a 16' deep vee.
-
That is good news. Guess they didn't have enough stinky hippies from California here yet.
-
You are correct about the law. No one needs to mess with anyone else's stuff but I bet they will find this as an excuse. I doubt the G&F will be able to monitor this new law very well as it would take a lot of new people to do it.

Really doesn't matter if you are a bird watcher in yoga pants or a hunter. If this passes every camera on a water hole will be knocked down by people who think they are in the right. That is bad but you know it will happen.
-
Bill, you missed the point of the rules. They have no authority to ban anything other than what is used to take game. That means they make the rules for elk and deer and we have to obey the rules.
-
Seriously? You think bird watchers are hiking a mile or so in to put up cameras? I will bet you that 90% of all cams on waterholes are hunters.
-
The moderator did say they had taken comments from quite some time and that they were skewed in favor of getting rid of cameras.
-
Based on what was said last night if you set up cams around the legal area near water and take an animal you can still be cited for use in taking of game. I think the new law will be using any trail camera to take game so no matter if you have it on a wallow with salt it would still be illegal for taking game. It would be legal for observing wildlife. I guess we will know the actual law soon.
-
More like apathy and laziness. Easier to whine on a hunting forum than show up and cause some noise. The guys that did show up couldn't hike a mile. The one that said there was absolutely no advantage to having trail cams on water needs to talk to my buddy. He had cams last year for the elk hunt and after he shot his 6x6 his son sat water the next night and got the second 6x6 he had on camera.

Alaska Trip Help (updated with trip report pics)
Ringer replied to AZ RANGER's topic in The Campfire
I have done 27 trips to Alaska to fish. I would fly into Yakutat. Hard to get a room and rental car by now but it is basically 2 rivers the Seatuk and Lost. Drive a few miles from the town and fish from the bank for silvers. Always good in September and you can catch coho salmon up to 20 pounds. A half day halibut trip will fill your coolers there. The Glacier Bear lodge is the best place to stay but you have to secure a rental car or truck to get to the fish. If you are going to do a float trip get good Grundens or Helly Hansen raincoat and a set of good waders. I would see if you can borrow or buy a cheap 12 gage shotgun when you get there for bears. There are plenty of them and they are not like rattlesnakes. -
What unit? I used to do unit 10 every year and get my bird first day. Some great turkey hunting in NM.

I have fished Alaska 27 times over the years. I would go to Sitka. They have two of the largest hatcheries in Alaska there. The timing is perfect for kings, some coho, halibut and lingcod. We always fished with Mike Arthur. I think his company is Sitka Fishing Charters. He works hard and has a big catamaran boat and great equipment. They will fish the ocean and the inside passage. Have fun.

5bs archery bull finally. Hope I am not too old to get it done now at 69. Been shooting the bow every day so that is still working.
-
I also paid Strictly Diesel over $10000 for the 6.0 repairs and bulletproofing. A year later the headgaskets blew again and I called them and was told tough $hit and another $10000 so I sold it for nothing and bought the Tundra. I don't think they ground the heads correctly as they put the expensive gaskets and ARP studs and it still blew.

I have an old box call that brings them in and fast. I use it sparingly then use a diaphram call to get them to strut/commit suicide. I have made a lot of box calls and this old cedar one just has a special sound

Finally drew an archery bull tag with 9 points. Hope I am not too old to get'er done.

Mine was the same. I wrote them this morning with the new license number I bought before the draw and it is now fixed. Just slow to update IMO.
