SO I am going elk hunting in 15 or 16b archery, my card hit this morning, I just about crapped and then realized I had 2 others on my app. For a second there I thought I had been drawn for bighorn! ag

j, Make sure you get a trailer of appropriate length for the terrain you are going to pull it in , the longer you get the harder it is to negotiate some of the curvy and rough roads, I have a 22 ft and it does great. Also the goosenecks or 5th wheels are harder to use on curvy roads. AG

I hunted unit 24 last year and it SUCKED!!!!!!!, we saw one cow the whole hunt. AG Still no credit card hits for me, they still have 4 more days though. AG

You have until today at 3 to change your credit card info, and I imagine after that the credit cards will start to be hit(hopefully). It usually has at least one server crash a year and there probably will be a problem with the log in or something so it will be the 22nd or 23rd before you AZ guys find out what you will be hunting in NM , we NM guys know the secret game and fish number 1 800 USO SUCK AG

wklman, That is exactly what the web site said, at least for the 3pts to one side. It seems like there are many arguments out there about it , but it seems like with a 3pt restriction alot of the mature bucks get nailed as everybody is hunting for them. The average size of the racks actually decreased according to their data( not from NM however) so for what its worth. AG

When I lived in Flag a two buddies of mine were scouting and found a dead 6x 6, so they cut off its head and got back to the truck and B. Barsh, a real wonderful piece of arizona wildlife manager, comes walking up and starts talking to them and tells them what a nice rack, so they take him back to where they found the elk and he agrees that it was killed while sparring in the rut, and he likes those two guys so much that he writes them both tickets for 800 bucks and confiscates the rack. So they go to court as we were all dirt poor college students at NAU, well they get off on the charges, but never get the rack back, oh yeah a year to the day later, the above mentioned great guy gave me and another buddy tickets for shooting to close to a house( one of the ticketed guys above was also with us) He walks up and says, allright, I dont know which of you guys was shooting but I saw 2 guns discharge so I am giving 2 tickets to you, so who wants them. I kid you not those were his exact words, so I take one of the tickets as I feel sorry for my buddy who is just a year our from being hammered by this worthless piece of flesh, as I think we can beat the charges. So court date arrives and we are handed offcer barsh's deposition which states that he saw us shoot from his truck(lies as he was on foot 400 yards from his truck which was parked by the nearest house), and that he visualized us shooting, and that we became belligerent and hostile when he approached us. Yeah after he stepped off the distance from where we shot to the road and not the nearest occupied residence, so to make a long story short, we had no sympathy from the judge and I did not get to buy a CO. deer tag that year as I got to make a donation to the state. Oh yeah and 1 criminal point on my record. So the moral of the story, dont pick up fresh racks and dont expect them to give your racks back if they are confiscated and you are found innocent. Oh yeah and guess who moved to Silver City(my home) a few years ago after retirement, You guessed it Officer Bob Barsh. yee flipping haw!! AG

Jason, Contrary to what you have been hearing, you can take deer from little walnut, just haul butt down that road in your car and , well just like hunting, its 90% luck and 10% skill, so you figure that within 5-6 tries you should be able to bag one with a 4000 gr bumper pushed by 3500 lbs of american steel at a velocity of 55 mph. Just remember, AIM FOR THE HEART!! AG

I was reading the post in hunting AZ I believe, about the legislation passing a bill to limit non residents at 10% regardless of unit and by making it a bill it would never change from 10%. This has alot of support from the AZ guys which is fine, now I was looking on the NM regs and they give 22 percent of all tags to nonresidents, 12% go to non res with guides and 10% go to non res with no guides!!!! now I may have those numbers reversed, but maybe we need to contact our commission and start talking about reciprocity. We get little support from the AZ guys in the deal there and I think a change is due with us being in a draw situation, there are many more opportunities in AZ to hunt whitetail, so maybe they should just stay there and hunt and they need to make NM a 10% non resident cap, now I support the guides so leave then with 8% and give all the other podunks like me who cant pay a guide 2%. I know alot of those guys hunt here and they dont have to constantly hear about how the 10% non res cap is a good thing, like we do on the site, so maybe we need to start writing and calling about equality with AZ in tag distribution? AG

I am still trying to decide which optics to buy and it is between swaro's and leica, but the Duovids look good with the 10 and 15 power, I am just wondering if anyone has had a chance to use these and compare them with other optics. THanks AG

El Fuego, Do you think a good pair of binocular suspenders would help that? Those seem to negate them swinging all over the place which is really what tires me out. I already have some 15-60's, do you guys and gals think that the Duovids would really get rid of the need for them or would they be more for just general glassing rather than tripod glassing. If so I really (really infinity ) do not want to carry around 2 heavy pairs of bino's. AG

They can pass all the laws they want but when they continually fail to enforce them it does no one any good. I am not personally against anyone coming here to work and contribute to the betterment of the US as long as it is done legally. The key word is legally, not undocumented or illegal, there has got to be a way that is enforceable to allow the legitimate workers who wish to come and experience the American Dream to do so with no repercussions. This would allow the US and the immigrant worker protection, the way that it is now there is not any, the other concerning thing is that it is not just Hispanics crossing illegally, there are many coming from terrorist nations as well. I voted for Bush as many on here did and he has got to show some testicular fortitude on this issue, he is really bunging things up all the way around at this time. The other issue is the amount of corruption(on both sides of the border) that is so prevalent, we have all heard the stories about the Mexican cops and soldiers coming into the US, why and why is nothing done about it by the US do we just conveniently overlook it? If we dont change our direction and attitude within the next 5-10 years we will no longer be THE Super power but a washed up has been state with no direction(or poor direction) and unconquerable problems!! What has happened to our once great nation? I worry about my kids growing up with this , if I am disillusioned now, what happens to them in 10-15 years? Oh well sorry so wordy! AG

Casey, I thought you had a 270 wsm or some type of short mag, why dont you use that instead of the 30-06? ag

My biggest concern about them is do you sacrifice brightness with them and are they as clear at 15x as they should be, I really don't want to spend that much money on optics I may not like. The weight issue does not really concern me that much, I am so fat anyway that an extra 2 pounds is nothing , ag

SunDevil, The whole guide thing kind of stuck in my craw after my initial post, I have tried to contact the game and fish commissioner for this area to ask him about it but have yet to hear from him. That would be good to just drop the 12 percent that goes to guides as it would leave 10% for non residents, AZ's guides do fine with that . I know that is waffling from the first post but that makes more sense. AG

Amanda, I was kind of concerned about the weight as well, but right now I have my 15x 60's in my pack and my 10's around my neck, and man is that heavy as well. AG

I have emailed Dutch Salmon, who is the district rep for Silver City,about it just to ask the thinking behind the policy but have not heard anything as of yet. Figures , we thought AZ got hosed by taulman but NM REALLY got hosed by him. AG

Unfortunately it seems like either way you look at it nobody really wins, I would just as soon see it a straight 10% cap now that I think about it, but whatever I guess, just is kind of rankling to put in for a Dec WT hunt and know that only 5 tags will go to non residents in AZ, maybe I just need to get better with my bow and hunt in AZ that way. I agree with rembrandt, Hunt wherever the heck you want and however you want as long as its legal go for it and nobody on here has any business judging anyone else for the way they choose to hunt. Way to go though, nothing like alienating members of the group you need to rely on most to ensure that hunting remains a privilege regardless of how you choose to do it. Man sure hope an anti ties onto this thread and sees that some hunters really do fit the stereotype they push. AG
