    Steven Brown

Steven Brown passed away in Eagar Monday morning. Anyone who knew Steven knows what a great guy he was. I had the opportunity to know him for about 15 years. I first met him when I went to my then bride to be's(his niece Jori Brown) home in Eagar. He immediately made me feel right at home. All of us who knew him will mourn for the loss of such a wonderful caring man but we also know he is now out of pain and rejoicing with his dad and watching over us from above. Love ya Uncle Steve!!! ag

    Draw Results up

9 years and no tag how nice, my kids got the big 0 as well. Last year they both got drawn for oryx and then did not draw anything else, so maybe we will have better luck in the later draw. ag

    Oryx hunt (off range)

Dropped off the horns for the Euro mount yesterday and my taxidermist is going to tan the tail as well. My son wanted it. AG
  5. So my son had a tag for March for off range oryx and unfortunately my wife had some tests that had to be done the day we were supposed to leave to go hunt. I have a good friend in Alamogordo who said he would meet us in Cruces and pick him up and take him out if I wanted him to go. So I of course said yes. I dont want my kids to miss out on things because their mom is sick so away he went. I had mixed emotions of course, I really wanted to hunt with him, but needed to be in Silver with my wife. So on the way to Cruces we talked about shot placement, his scope, getting a good rest and etc and how much he and I both wished I was going. So I dropped him off Thursday night, texted him to "shoot straight "Friday morning and this is the text I got back Friday at 1120 "I DID" SO needless to say I was very excited(little sad since I wasnt there) and was late finishing my am patients since I had to run around the office yelling "My son killed an oryx! My son killed an oryx! ... Wanna see a picture!(which they saw regardless if they said yes or no) Anyway, He shot it with his 30 06 at 150 yards with a 150 gr sierra spbt it went a few yards and laid down behind a tree. He and my buddy were waiting for it to expire and some ranchhands drove up to feed their cattle(was on BLM) and saw them sitting on the 4 wheelers waiting, so the knotheads tried to run off his oryx because apparently it had been grazing with their cattle and was "a pet" and they did not want him to shoot it. Apparently the guys were not real cool ( I guess that was why I wasnt there, there would have been some bruised knuckles and bloodletting! probably would have ruined his hunt for him) but my son said he just said "Oh." walked over and shot the oryx from 20 yards to kill it. Classic!! This did not lessen his mood and he was and is stoked, It was a 27 inch cow and we are getting it european mounted. Not to mention lots of meat Oryx is the best meat I have ever had. Anyway He had a blast and was happy. My buddy said the first shot was through the lungs and would have been fatal had the morons not shown up and tried to run it off.

why in the world were they aiming for the legs, it says the suspects were both shot in the legs and expected to survive, now we have to pay for a trial for them. ag

Are you ready for the long shot? I am...

I dont think any time was "wasted" it was a good respectful debate over shooting techinique! Obviously both of them know what they are talking about. I am not about to take a handheld into the field to get ready for my shot, does not work for me, however I think if he wants to do that more power to him. All teh ballistic tables and computers and etc in the world dont make a bit of difference if you dont know your rifle and take the time to shoot it at the range. Oh and I think both guys are master debaters but it sure made for an elightening discussion. Welcome to the forum LAZZ. ag
  9. J. sorry to hear about your mom, I hope she gets well quickly and I hope you can stick a nice one. ag

HOWEVER, My 11 year old daughter( whom I put in for the first time this year!!) got drawn, and so did my son!! On different applications no less!! I guess from now on I put in with one of them!! I hope those of you who put in in NM got lucky and get to go!! I have to do the hunting and let my kids do the shooting, I am way ok with that though!! ag

A Worthless Waste of Hunting Gear

My first scope was a TASCO WORLD CLASS, I used to think people were just mispronouncing tasco when they said Trashco!! I learned quickly they were referring to my scope and pronouncing it correctly!! I would have hated to see the regular old tasco since the world class sucked so bad, should have been called the Tasco 3rd World Class scope! ag

If it makes you feel better, the estimates are in that for every car bought in the cash for clunker program it cost the taxpayers $24000. Yes the zeros are correct. Nice! ag

Mullin's Got it done in a big way!

biscuits with 11 posts is now an expert on the forum and is calling into question Jim who has 2600+. He can talk about subjectivity killing us on this forum as much as he wants , however with his massive 11 posts I would not call him an expert. I think he needs at least 12 posts to be an expert I usually dont get real angry about stuff like this but come on , Jim Mullins is a great guy and works his butt off to get trophies for his hunters!! He has always been supportive of members here and I dont recall him EVER doubting a score or size of an animal. He has never spoke discouragingly about anyone that I know of! Is he a saint ?(with the grin he has on his pics I doubt it, looks like a good time waiting to happen ) That is not the argument, how many times have you guys run into some person we have never heard of on the forum get on here and be an expert about everything. Jim backs his experience with pictures, videos etc and to me is a proven commoditiy and I would book a hunt with him in a NY minute! I am picking on biscuits because he stated our subjectivity is killing us, subjective is something that is stated, not backed up, objectivity is the proof in the pudding, it is what is used by docs on a physical exam to discover what is the real problem ie pulses , temp, etc. undeniable fact essentially. Well objectively we have seen alot more proof of big animals and successful hunts from the Mullins. Subjectively, if Jim says where something was killed, how big it was and what it scored I am going to believe him since he as always been honest. so in this case I dont feel it kills us, it kills when someone comes on and brags about the massive animal he/she killed and then we dont have them back it up. Jim does not need to, the past has shown us that. Biscuit however would need to show me the money!!I want tape measure on bone and official score cards!!! It would be so much better if people quit coming on new and 2nd guessing older members of the site!! this thread sucked in it took the wind out of the sails of a great accomplishment by Mullins guide service. YOu know by now we should expect it, all it is is the people who call guys who have bagged large animals legitimately and accuse them of poaching, etc. It all boils down to Jealousy and in my opinion that applies here!!. ag
