guys, Adobe Mtn is a wildlife rehab center that G&F runs, they do birds for the most part but help any animals until a place for them is found in another center. These have always been a hit with kids.

used a Hawaiian spear when I was stationed there, aluminum pole about 4 ft long with a surgical rubber loop on one end and the 3 prong spear point on the other. Put the loop over your thumb, pull back and hold the pole, swim up to the fish point and let go. It worked good. I used it while scuba diving, had a blast.

I have an 85mm Razor, love the clarity, hate the weight, been thinking of selling it and getting 20-60x65 Swaro. But I tend to carry a heavy pack and if I was 20 years younger it wouldn't bother me.

I like hand priming my cases, can feel when the pocket gets too big and the primer goes in too easily, then I'll crush the case. I got the Lee primer when it first came out, there are many other makes now.

Do you agree with G&F forcing kids to take Hunter Safety???
azslim replied to Big Browns's topic in Youth Hunters
to become an Instructor you must first take the class, then attend another class that puts emphasis on teaching techniques and styles, then hook up with one of the Chief Instructors putting on a class. It isn't hard to get with a team teaching classes, most folks teach a year or two then move on. As I said earlier, it's all volunteer, the small fee taken up front is used to buy the stuff that gets shot up on field days and to cover some of the ammo, G&F gets money from the Pitman/Robertson Act for every student you graduate. You won't get an extra BP or anything like that, but it was worth it for the kids, I have run into several or their parents, that attended my classes and couldn't wait to share their hunting stories and pictures with me. -

the problem is the number of Instructors, not enough of them, it is all volunteers and unless someone from your area volunteers to teach the only option is online then finding a field day -
I have hung a carcass in a tree, hung 3 to 4 frozen 1 Gal milk jugs of water in the cavity, then wrapped a tarp around it and put up another tarp to shade the entire thing. it worked. Now I have a 120 qt cooler that I can fit a cow elk into, have to cut above the kneed on hind qtrs, I use frozen 16 oz water bottles for ice in it, put a layer on the bottom and stick in the rest wherever they will fit. I have to bone out a bull to fit.

I sold one that had sat outside for years, last time I remember driving it was 67 or 68 on a fishing trip then it was parked. I got $2500 for it plus some spare parts. Hers is probably in better shape, should get more $ for it. -

I taught for 12 years and the feedback we got from the WM's was that the kids would point out to the parents when they were doing something wrong. The negative comments on the feedback forms were from the 20 to 30 y.o.'s that didn't like the number of hours, the kids enjoyed the class. -
I like a bi-pod for long range prone shots and use my tripod for standing shots

I would study maps in my living room to plan making the most out of my gas, you can cover a lot of terrain on a weekend and if you find an area that you like give it two weekends. You will be surprised how much you can learn from 4 to 6 weekends during the summer, pack light and be mobile, put up a cot at the tailgate at night and break it down in the morning, head up on the occasional Fri night so you're ready to go Sat.
