Scott, I grew up in Eagar and love unit 27 also. We went over a year between seeing the big four point buck that we have posted shed and trail camera pics for. We were sure that he had been smoked by a lion but then one day there he was again. We have looked for him countless times but have only seen him 3 times in about a year and a half. All his sheds have been in that same area. We don't call them the "gray ghost" for nothing! I don't know where exactly your hunting, but I do know that most of that unit is thicker than that amazon and finding the same coues buck twice would be quite an acomplishment. Keep trying and sooner and hopefully not later your persistance will pay off.

The coues mount is a nice buck but man that four point shed is freakin huge! Thanks for sharing.

Need input on what you'd score this
Brian Payne replied to coues7's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
That buck grosses low to mid 90's -
Noel, I have been putting in for 14 years straight and had several tags but never once been drawn for my first choice for any genus!

That is a beautiful bull and it sounds like you earned him. Congrats and let us know the score. I'm guessing he'll gross mid 360's.

I'VE BEEN ROBBED!!!
Brian Payne replied to hunterdude's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
hunterdude, I feel your pain except that they took my whole camera this summer. I had it on a tank that had a lot of elk and bear sign around it. It was on a logging road that had a bunch of blow downs across it so you couldn't get a 4-wheeler in. About a mile and a half hike to get to it. Well, someone came in with a chainsaw and cleared the way and their 4-wheeler tracks led right up to the tree my camara was on. Luckily it was a cheap 35mm stealth cam and not a digital but it still really ticked me off. Would like to find that guy and show him a little old fashioned justice. I'm sure that is about how you're feeling right now. Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully they tripped and sprained their ankle on the way back to their vehicle. -
Nice Beck! Looks like some funky stuff down there by the g1 on the left side. Other than that kind of looks like my buck from last year.

Pics of 4 point coues
Brian Payne replied to kwp's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
From the last photo, what do you guys think the inside spread credit for this buck would be? I am guessing 13-14". -
Hey guys, I don't want to spoil the fun but I heard that picture was a fake (As in a bunch of elk photos pasted into a water hole). You can do just about anything with a computer these days. Look at the picture closely and you can see that some of the elks bodies seem kind of funny.

U of A Racks!!!
Brian Payne replied to Azlongears's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Way to go Andy!! That last buck is a real bruiser with some serios wood! We are checking our cam on a hot lick this weekend so hopefully we'll have some pics to share. Brian -
Deerslam, The measurements to all our sheds are in the shed photo gallary page 11. The sheds from this year actually shrunk a little. With the 12-13 inch spread that we think this buck has he would have scored around 103-104 gross with very few deductions last year. We saw him two weeks ago and he seems to have the potential to be bigger this year with the antlers he's got now. We really want to find the left shed from two years ago because his left side has been consistantly bigger and his right side from that year scored 49 6/8 which makes us think he was around 110" that year. Hopefully he can get back to that mark this year. He really doesn't seem old enough to be regressing yet but I don't know. Brian Payne

I think I found KWP's monster buck....
Brian Payne replied to Becker's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Becker, That very well may be our monster buck, about 7 years and 110 inches ago. Nice pick. Now lets see the ice cream buck on photo now. By the way, our buck eats ice cream for breakfast! Brian Payne -
Sweet character!! So will you be flinging feathers at that buck with your long bow here in a couple of weeks? Brian

I would have to agree with JACK. I have seen them eating on barrell cactus quite a bit

It sounds like you have really done your homework on this subject Ben Brown. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have wondered a lot about this topic. What you are saying makes sense. If I remember right the first fresh shed posted on this forum this year was a little forked horn. I have done a lot of shed hunting for elk antlers and have noticed the definate trend that the bigger bulls shed first. I always thought that this was becuase they needed more time to grow a large set of antlers before the fall rut. I have also notice that the bulls at lower elevation seem to shed much sooner. I don't know if anyone else has noticed similar patterns. Brian Payne

Those are some great sheds. Neat character. Thanks for sharing. Brian Payne

Gun/ Burrito control ?
Brian Payne replied to KGAINES's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I think that anyone who eats a 30" Burrito becomes a deadly weapon! My gosh! Brian -
I was a little disappointed in the show. I don't like it when hunting shows put a lot of "filler" footage in their shows i.e. people hanging out in hunting camp or driving to their hunting spot. When I flip on the hunting channel I want to watch hunting. It wasn't all bad, some of the footage was pretty good but overall I wasn't that impressed. Brian

Rabidapache, Sounds like a great weekend! Were any of the sheds this years? I thought you guys weren't supposed to take sheds off the Reservation untill April 1 or is that just a rumor I heard? Brian

really beginning to hate Tucson
Brian Payne replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Amanda, Sorry to hear about your losses. I moved to Tucson about a year ago just to go to U of A. Within the first month someone tried to steal my truck and did $450 damage to the door lock and ignition. Of course my deductable was $500. The cop told me that about 30 vehicles a night are stolen in Tucson area and taken strait across the border to Mexico. He also said my truck was seconds away from being gone and that the thief must have gotten spooked for some reason. Just a few months later someone broke into my house and stole my stereo. I'd love to get my hands on one of these punks and give them a little old fashioned justice if you know what I mean, especially since they are rarely delt with by the law. Brian
