  1. Totally legal. I use a 2x on my bow.
  2. You always have the opportunity to run into other hunters on public land, but the lack of motor vehicles in wilderness areas usually means the hunters you run into are less numerous.

    Trespassing

I have 40 acres in the White Mountains. From my own experience, if you do not live on your remote land, you have little chance of keeping the "locals" out. Posted signs mean nothing to them. They will disregard "no trespassing" and "private property" signs, hop your barbed wire fence, and continue to do whatever they did on your land before your fence went up. Sadly, "no hunting" signs in my area often result in cut fence wires, whereas the other signage does not. ...and you are right, cattle essentially have the right away on Arizona lands unless you put up a fence to keep them out. Sad to hear that people are affecting your spot. I have had a 5-gallon bucket and a $3 grill mesh stolen from my land, which is not much, but everything I have ever left over there. Good luck!

    Silver Creek?

Try contacting BigBrowns on the site here. He is a Silver Creek fishing nut!
  5. Thanks Amanda! I just downloaded and sent them off. The deadline is today, so I am complete. The photo with James is actually classic, showing that Santa loves children of all ages and does not discriminate!
  6. Hi. I am always "data" collecting on bears each spring from shed hunters. Please add on and report if you make any bear sightings or come across any fresh signs or scat. It will be interesting to see if the bears start coming out from dens sooner this year with the warmer weather. Mind you, some of our bears get by without denning at all, and some have probably popped out already.
  7. What a killer rug! That color phase pattern with the black splotches is definitely a co-dominant genetically controlled trait. It looks awesome, and your beard matches the rug perfectly!
  8. Sniper, you need to post the story about that cat you are hugging there! I am not sure I ever read about it!
  9. Went out calling for bear this morning. Put in a lot of time scouting for fresh sign. I was kind of shocked to not come across any. No sheds either, but not that I have ever found any while out for spring bear. It was a perfect day though!

Such a shame what shed hunting as come to

Punji sticks in the road was meant as an obvious joke. The anti-reversal spikes at pay parking lots was the dreamchild for that comic idea. The point being, nothing placed on roads keeps non-law abiding individuals out. They will drive around boulders, right through earth mounds deterrents, and cut locks and barbed wire that block the way, as stated previously.

    Two years in a row!

Nice, no complaints about that! Looks like you had a great time.

What about installing some punji sticks on these "closed" roads to treat the bad guys' tires to a lesson?

    Bear Deterrent

That's why the .454 casull was produced. No need to mess around with fancy fumigation devices, just point the pistol and pull the trigger!

    Bear hide Value?

Post up some pictures of this hide, and maybe the story of how you tagged that bear! I do back rolls and belly flops for cinnamons!

    Bear hide Value?

Those are outrageous prices on that website that few people will actually pay. True market value is Craigslist and what they sell for on that. I would say $100-300 with $200 being a good value. I am a bear freak and have followed bear rugs and hides on Craigslist for 4-5 years now. Even taxidermy rugs don't sell that often at $400 or $500 unless in is a grizz or exceptional color phase bear, as most people want their own bear. Most bear rugs on Craigslist drop $100 in price each week from $1000 down to $500 or $60) and their ads expire. I have seen a few bears posted on there and reposted for over a year now, but they are still trying to sell it. Now a taxidermist might pay a little more than CL price if they screwed up a client's mount, or want to try practicing a mount with a full hide, but I see them only paying $300-$400. So, I honestly do not see a bear hide worth much more than what one paid to get it tanned, based on common sales market value. Just think about all the recent posts on bobcat fur prices dropping to poor values. Hides don't hold the values that people want them to hold. I love bears and wish their hides were more valuable.

    Spearfishing in Rocky Point???

I go to Rocky Point several times each year. Spearfishing is great from the shore around rock piles and reefs, or over sandy areas for rays and flounders. You probably had cloudy water on your trip due to extreme tides centered around a full or new moon which really moves the ocean water around and stirs up the sand and mud from the estuaries. Go during a 1st or 3rd quarter moon and the ocean sometimes takes on the appearance of a sea of glass! I am embellishing my description just a bit, but the tides in Rocky Point have everything to do with the clarity of the water. Have fun, and do not worry!

    Mean/Insane Tom Down!

Way to go Blake! Sweet looking cat! Did you keep the tasty meat? Lion is second only to bear for my palate.
  22. I did it in the Catalina State Park 20 years ago when in college. It was fun, because I could skip class on a whim and take off into the mountains and pull a tent and blanket out of a rock cache and set it up without any advanced planning for a quick escape. I did pack everything down the mountain after I graduated! Be careful when stashing water. I thought my containers were air tight, but they were not. I opened one jug and the water was nasty smelling and tasted rancid. Also, be careful of critters, as I had a gila monster folded up in my blanket once!

    BIGGEST pig you've seen? (Pics)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have taken small animals before, but loved the chase and the meat they provided for me. Bravo for posting your trophy!
