    Octane Stabilizer 11 inch

Is its length adjustable or fixed at 11 inches?
  5. Thanks muledeerman! With the large bundle of arrows donated by Str8Shot, another bow would certainly help. Feeling bad that it is new, because most of the bows I have acquired for the cause are heavily used, dinged up, scratched, and stringless. But, a diamond in the rough would certainly be put to use. That being said, if anyone in the area ever has a "group" that would enjoy shooting bows as an activity, I now have enough equipment for 10 or 12 youth shooters and would gladly help them out. Scouts or youth church groups usually spend between 1 and 2 hours in the evening shooting balloons at Paseo Vista Archery Park, which is where I typically set up. Just send me a PM and we can coordinate.
  6. I was once messing around with a predator call while my hunting partner was out using the shovel. I was slightly annoyed at this unplanned interruption to our bear hunt, so I encouraged him to make it quick. I expected him to be gone for no more than five or six minutes. I moved about 50 yards away from the direction he had headed and nonchalantly started to squeal away, partly to scare him and partly to annoy him to speed things up. Just a few minutes later I caught some light brown movement on the near hillside about 100 yards away and identified a ninja cat slunking through the growth towards me. I brought that lion in to about 15 yards alongside a large fallen pine tree abreast of me. I knew that in about 2-3 seconds I would be squeezing the trigger of my .30-06 to tag this cougar when it entered a small clearing beyond this fallen giant. Then, without warning, the cat made a 180 degree turn behind the protected covering provided by this woody wall and melted into the thicket quicker than it had appeared. I was left wondering what I had possibly done to spook this feline when my less sensitive human ears picked up the sauntering melody of my buddy shuffling through the vegetation as he approached me, now that his business was done. Lesson learned...always carry some reading material in your pack for your buddy, just in case your buddy decides to drop a deuce during prime calling hours.

    Archery Practice Help

I shoot three in arrows in a set. I do two sets at 50 yards, then move up to 60, 70, and finally 80 yards. Then, I work my way back down from 70, 60, 50, and end up at 40 yards. For me, my variation comes from the steadiness during my release. That is what I really practice on the most... staying steady.

Where are the bear pics, James?
  10. I take 5th and 6th grade students archery shooting every year and service three to four boy scout groups as well for the archery merit badge. I have 8 fiberglass recurve bows that I let them shoot cheap carbon arrows from and three older compound bows for shooting aluminum arrows from. I would gladly take a dozen off your hands to support the educational outdoor cause in which I am freely engaged and donating my time to the cause.

    What grain for 30-06?

Not juevos, just lucky when calling. I am certainly scared to death with bears coming in that close, but I am too excited and pumped with adrenaline to process my fear until after the event. Other than archery bear, I have moved up to a .300 win mag and 180 gr bullets for fall bear. Like Casey, I also prefer the Barnes TTSX line, but accubonds are great too.

    Archery Practice Help

Where do you shoot at? If you want to shoot a 6am session at Paseo Vista Archery Range in Chandler, I can join you any day this week. I shoot only broadheads into my own target, but field tip setups are on site from 10 to 100 yards in 10 yard increments. The shooting practice is open to anyone, as it is funner to practice with another shooter.

    What grain for 30-06?

I used 180 grain rounds for sighting in my .30-06 at 100 yards. Never shot further than about 10 yards at a bear before with that set-up.

    2015 January Archery Coues Deer

...twin daughters are four. One wants to hunt elk, the other bear. Want them to have their "Double Trouble: Twin Huntresses" outdoor show, even if it is only in my mind!
  18. So, while you were dropping a deuce, a bear came and ravaged through your backpack...incredible! And you never even heard the sneaky culprit in action...scary! That is one smart and dangerous bear! Good luck!
