I haven't been able to use it yet, but I will do a write up after I tag my next animal. Hopefully an archery spring bear in the next month.

This has been my hunting rig for the last year, and I put 6,000 miles on it. It has very low miles, at only 98K. I have owned this Jeep for one year, but have moved on to another Jeep. The 4x4 on this Jeep is incredible and had taken me to areas where Razors and quads are the norm. Engine and tranny are strong. No oil or fluid leaks. No interior rips or holes in seats. Interior has some carpet stains that came with the Jeep when I bought it, but they never bothered me. Likewise, the hood and driver's side front quarter panel are from another Jeep, as they have red pin stripes on them. Again, this never bothered me in a hunting rig. The lower interior trim underneath the steering wheel is cracked, as they are in most Cherokees. My ONLY concern is that it runs warmer than my other Jeeps and I can't get over that! I put a grand into my Jeep last summer with a new CSF 3-row radiator, radiator hoses, thermostat, water pump, and temp sensor. I put in an aftermarket electric fan and a more robust ZJ clutch fan to bring in even more air into the engine, and still no temperature change. In spit of that, it has never overheated in the summer, and I have driven it to Rocky Point twice and up to Payson and south to Santa Rita's bear hunting a dozen times...hence the 6,000 miles I have driven and it has NEVER failed me. In the winter, the engine temp is fine and I can drive all day and never hit 190. November elk and January javelina trips have not raised an eyebrow with me. However, in the summer, it has risen as high as 230, but I never stopped or had anything other than my own panic attack over watching the temp creep up past vertical. That being said, it is a great Jeep with super low miles that perhaps someone with more wrench knowledge than I can cure the "summer time warming" that I have experienced. I would keep at it this summer, but Alaska calls! Feel free to call with any questions. I am straight up and honest. For sale on Craigslist for $4500, but $4000 for a fellow hunter on CWT. Coastal brownies, the 10-footers, go $20-$30k, while the salmon-less interior grizz are typically 7-8 footers...but much more beautiful in color ( my opinion of course)! Inland grizz hunts can be had for $10-15k. This is a half-off sale opportunity.

I have been blessed to call in over a dozen lions in 20 years of bear calling. I was obviously targeting bears and used hand calls. I call incessantly, with lots of emotion, and only stop to catch my breath with nothing longer than a 30 second break. I typically call fir 40-60 minutes depending on the feelings I get...Lions appear out of nowhere! Quiet and s eaky, they have scared the heck out of me!! Good luck!

I had a co-worker's husband hunt grizzly in Russia. Alaska grizzly are larger, in his opinion, and USA accommodations can not be beat! The main factor is PRICE!! Is a Russian grizzly hunt going to save you $8-10,000? If it is only a $2-3,000 difference, Alaska is a better bet. Just my own opinion. I am curious about Russian prices. Fully guided Alaskan grizzly hunts can be had one-on-one for $12k for interior grizzly and $17k for coastal brownies. Prices can double from those set points. How does Russia compare?

This was my "proposal bear" from last October. I shot it while "camping" with my girl friend and proposed to her that evening. Our wedding rings were made out of it's leg bones!

Wow! That is a tough story to read! I was calling in a canyon perhaps ten years ago and had a bear come out of a thicket above me at a distance of perhaps 200 yards. Imagine my shock when at least one unseen hunter about 1,000 yards behind me on the ridgeline started shooting at it. Two missed shots were fired and that bear faded away back into the thicket. I had to wait almost two hours for the shooting light to fade before hiking out in the dark for fear of being shot at! I have not hunted 23 south since then! (However, I am always tempted...but never on the "Black Friday" of the opening weekend.)

I heard this crazy medley of distress sounds, screams, and growls coming out of a dense thicket in front of me yesterday with about 30 minutes of light left. It was both eerie and reminiscent of sounds I produce with hand predator calls. A young calf walks out of this thicket being closely followed by its mother. They freeze in place and the mother turns her head and is fixated on something behind her. I see movement and a lion steps out. As I grab a call out of my pocket, I watch the calf and its mother proceed away from the lion with the lion following them just five feet behind in hot pursuit. I blow a couple of screams out of my call and free the lion in its tracks. I raise my rifle and see literally nothing but vegetation. Darn it, I had my rifle scope on 10x! As I dial it back down to 4x, the cattle and lion all begin moving broadside and parallel to me at about 200 yards. I let out a couple of squeals again, stopping the lion a second time in its tracks. However, on this replay, I see my target and squeeze the trigger on my .300 win mag. Dead lion...living calf.

Yup. I taught a student whose family was from Sonora about 15 years ago. They were down for their nephew's birthday party when when a young jag strolled out of the desert and a relative shot and skinned it. Many international laws seem to be non-effective south of our border.

That is the question I seek an answer to as well. I have cooked lots of bear many different ways, but have never jerked any for fear of trichinosis and wondering if dehydrating in the jerking process reaches 150 degrees, which I doubt it does. Answer?
