My sheep is from 44bn I wish I would have done it with a bow these sheep are used to the snow birds on many scouting trips I walked right up to rams there is a art to it you need to angle sideways and work your way to them picking up rocks along the way I believe mine would have been top 3 in the state with a bow 180 1/8

I had the tag in 2009 give me a call if you need any help

Never hunted this unit but I was on a hunt on the other side of the fence in NM and I could tell you if people don't think there are big elk in there they are mistaken I saw many big bulls go back and fourth from AZ to NM as far as accessibility I'm not sure. I had a friend and outfitter call me before the draw and try to get me to put in with him on this hunt (I had 11 points he had 3) and told me when we draw he would have his guides guide us and provide everything for free so he obviously thinks pretty highly of this hunt.

How to bring about a consistent draw result release date
chompy replied to Xnt's topic in Elk Hunting
I like the way New Mexico does it all the money up front and they give you a date when the results come out and they always come out on that date. They even email you to tell you there out. As far as what people shoot with there tag that is totally up to them I would never judge them on the size of there animal. Me personally I like to see them grow up and get big but that's my opinion. -
You interested in any trades

No joke my buddies card just got hit with two elk tags today
-
Due you still have this

You will not be disappointed in kiababs in my opinion the best bang for your buck awesome on a tripod

Chances are you got 10 or 7w cause the others won't make it to the second draw they will be gone. Sitting tanks can be very good for that hunt, but my approach would be to get behind your glass the big bulls like to get in nasty canyons that time of year where there don't have to travel very far for food and water and they like to be by themselves.

That lion in the Kofa range killed 22 sheep in two months the herd still hasn't responded. I don't have a dog in this fight just stating facts. Last time I checked I've never seen a skinny lion right, wrong, or indifferent those younger cats would survive.

With the pressure from the first season elk draw only I hunt the second season which Is the first OTC tag for rifle, I hunt just off the top around 9000ft I get behind the glass bed them down then wait them out. By the way 3 of the 6 were killed between 12-1pm

Looking for a little advice. Drew my first bull tag finally and was wondering if my current combo will work okay. Currently I'm shooting a Hoyt maxis 31 68lbs with carbon express maximum hunter 250 arrows with 100 grain montec g5 broad heads. This has worked well for deer just wondering what everyone thought about this combo for elk. What should I change etc.

Just curious what broad heads everyone likes for elk

Jim what unit did you draw hopefully 9 since you know it well, I put 9 1st and 10 second. Last time I was in 9 you guys took 3 bulls off the same waterhole way out west I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about. Which broad heads do you recommend I'm not committed to montecs

This bull was shot at 405 yards with a 270 using rem cor lock 140 grain $20 a box ammo. One shot drop it's all about shot placement
-
I shot this bull last year in an OTC unit in southern co I've shot 5 6x6's in the last 12 years there you just have to get off the roads and glass

I would say 1 for bulls 330-350 although I personally saw two over 400 last year on the ground. 9 for pure amount of 340+ bulls two years ago I saw 47 bulls in one morning from one glossing spot. And then there's 10 more 420+ bulls than any other unit there are some serious freaks in 10. This year 9 and 10 might be in trouble due to lack of moisture either way lots of 390+ bulls will hit the ground hopefully I can get an opp at one.
