I've been applying since my early 20's and am past 50 now. I have max points and share the sentiments it would be nice to draw sooner rather than later! That said, you're specific question was the inevitable, "which unit" question. You might want to contact Don Martin of Arizona Wildlife Outfitters and discuss specific unit draw option strategies. He and I are friends and I admit I DO NOT follow his draw strategy (he knows why and "gets it"); however, if I were at less than max &/or a nonresident I would wholeheartedly follow his plan. Attention nonresident hunters hoping to draw a permit for our big game hunts. I am posting up a notice AZGFD VHE Instructor Don Martin placed on another hunting related forum. He's out hunting with his grandson or he'd have remembered to put it up here himself, so here it is: For those non-residents who have already taken Hunter Education in your home state and want to garner that important PERMANENT BONUS POINT here in Arizona, you can now sign up. Interesting take catclaw....hmmmmm. I just spent 9 hours with 2 of those Education Branch employees while they taught a group of new Hunter Education Instructor Candidates. At no time did I detect any hint thst t hey might be "libtards" I believe was the word you used which I assume means some type of liberal anti-hunter. In fact, their clear excitment to get the message of safe, ethical hunting practices instilled into the next generation of hunters was noted and appreciated. To toss out a blanket assertion like yours certainly can't be backed up as fact by the Hunter Education Branch employees that I have personally met. We must be talking about different people in the Education Branch? Hunter Education is alive and well in Region III and we look forward to our all volunteer Hunter Ed Instructor Team teaching hunter education for years to come. Check out the current, or maybe just past, issue of Guns Magazine, it has a photo of the new Springfield 1911 Range Officer Pistol on the cover. There is an article by John Barsness about barrel break-in. Do a Google search on Mr. Barsness' writings and you will find a ton of useful, practical, & wide REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE concerning hunting rifles and hunting accuracy. Hi Bruce! I had the same rifle and traveled down the same "handloading road" you're walking back in 1992-1993, before I ended up selling the rifle. Of the bullets I tried, my rifle preferring the 125 grain Nosler Partition bullet, 57.5 grains IMR4350, Winchester cases and a WLR primer. With a 1960's vintage Bushnell Scope Chief 3X-9X scope the best groups I could coax from the rig were consistently in the 1.50" range- a few flirted with 1 MOA, but not the norm. At the end of my journey, I found my particular .264 WM really wasn't much more than a heavier, longer barreled, hard-kicking, and MUCH louder version of the .270 Winchester. If I still had the rifle (and I don't pine for it as I sold it for a nice sum back in '93 without the scope) I would be interested to try Ramshot powder, a FED 215M, and the Berger VLD 140 grain bullet. The .257 Weatherby Magnum seems to be one of the modern darlings right now, and not without reason; it is a fine, flat-shooting cartridge and available in an affordable platform in the Weatherby Vanguard sub-MOA rifle. I'm surprised at your lack of response from the Badlands folks. I sent them my 2200 in the late spring for some zipper replacements and received the pack back in a week, all repairs free of charge.

A tip of the cap to you Steve for your gentlemanly attitude about this unfortunate saga. I too hope you can buy your bull elk back without too much financial pain. Anyone who bids on the antlers with knowledge of this incident is truly not someone you'd ever want to share a campfire with. Best wishes in your quest to recover your elk.
