    MY FIRST KAIBAB HUNT

Nice buck man; be proud, happy, and satisfied. You have a rack for the wall, a hide for the recliner, and a freezer full of venison. Does it get any better than that?
  2. Wolfe Publishing's "Successful Hunter Magazine" editor, John Barsness, a really practical firearms and hunting writer IMO, indicated at another hunting/shooting related website that he had handled and shot some of the "new" Winchester's in prototype form. His comments indicated that he was impressed with them and said, all things considered, they were worth the asking price. I'm going to grab 3 Featherweights when they hit the market, one each for me, my Dad, and my son.

  7. An earlier post identified the husband and wife ranchers that are spearheading this assault on the general public's hunting rights. For a clue as to who has their ear, look to a rapidly growing city to the west of their ranch, close to a resort town. Then look to the masthead of an Arizona consevation/hunting group and you can find the names of two of the Arizonans ramroding the "program".
  8. Looks like the country off the west side of Hwy 9 off the Barracks Ledge just above the Virgin River. Nice buck, congratulations.
  9. My teenaged daughter has a permit for the December hunt in 6B & unit 8 for coues whitetail. We have done a bit of scouting along the 6B/8 border and did not see any deer (other than a few mulies), think we were too high maybe? We also checked some of the lower country along 89A south of the Ash Fork area in unit 8. Are we in the right areas or should we be further south in 8? Off in Sycamore or Volunteer Canyons or somewhere else? I'd like her to see some bucks and make a clean kill. The "trophy" will be the experience and hopefully time spent with "dear old Dad"! We did see some photos of some exceptional coues bucks from the area at a processor and at a taxidermist's shop. Folks were a bit tight-lipped about where and when the deer were bagged. We'd appreciate any suggestions or insights into these areas where we'd be most likely to find coues bucks. Thanks for any help. Jim & Mallorie
