Thanks, starting to generate some interest as well as the occasional lowball offer. Mike

Bob is the pheasant preserve guy I was thinking of. The first time I saw his kennel I thought his setters were HUGE. Maybe it's because my little female was around 40 pounds and his big boned males looked to be 65+. They were good looking dogs, but I would take a real serious look and anything Paul has to offer.

A guy from the Cave Creek area named Paul Groger is who I got my last setter from 15 years ago or so. The guy who ran the pheasant preserve out by Pichacho lake also bred them. Try to get in touch with Web Parton, he used to run them. I know none of this is current info but it may be a start. Good luck, great dogs. Mike

Ready to build my first rirfle
Mike S replied to raisedin32's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Mausers are fine actions and I have an great .257 Roberts that was put together by an ACGG riflesmith on a Czech VZ24 action. That said, they may take a lot of work to get set up for scopes, etc. depending on what you start with. If you can find a commercial FN action from the 50's you would have a good start and you can find those if you spend some time. Sears (JC Higgins?) and others imported those actions for their rifles. If you are looking for a basic, lightweight hunting rifle the 700 action is great as others are telling you, but is no mauser... your opinion may vary. Mike -
Still available. The rifle hunts are fast approaching...

Would you pay someone to develop/reload for you

A company called Arizona Ammunition does (or used to do) this. They were pricey though. You might try a google search. Mike -

Bump with revised rifle only price option

You picked up a fine rifle Mike. I have nothing against Remingtons and have killed a lot of game with my model 700, but if both (factory rifles) were laying on a table and you were told to pick one (for free) I know which one I'd pick...

Dave, Thanks for the detailed response. How long did it take them to make it for you after you ordered it? Mike

Thanks for the write up. I am trying to decide between that pack and the Bighorn. I looks like yours does not have the live wing waistbelt option, correct? If not, would you get that if doing over again? Great pictures. Mike

My favorite ballistics program http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmtraj-5.1.cgi has a field you can enter for humidity. I haven't played around with that aspect, but check it out and let us know. Mike PS- never mind, looks like I mis-read the question...

I was e mailed some pictures of a ram band that have me itching to go up and glass for them...

Thanks TJ. I'm looking at the owners manual and it has a 2000 copyright date so it is less than 10 years old... Mike

It is about 10 years old but saw little use (my dog died). I assume it may be the orginal version. When I dug it out a last month the collar battery would not hold a charge so I bought a new one from tritronics. It has held its charge for over two weeks now... I also found a nylon holster/ carrier that I'll include.

Check with Accuracy Speaks in Mesa. They do a wide variety of work with reasonable rates.
