Holding your rifle for consistency revised
Mike S replied to apache12's topic in Long Range Shooting
Given a choice I would shoot prone with a tight sling over my pack, I've also killed game offhand and everything in between. If you get a chance, come out to our hunting rifle shoots at PRGC! I set the course of fire up to better simulate the the field conditions you describe, minus the cactus! It gives you a great feel for what you can and more importantly cannot get away with in field conditions. It's better described on Bill Poole's webpage below. http://arizona-rifleshooting.com/hunting-rifle-shoot-PRGC.html -

My guess is a horse was involved... Great deal! -
Hunters and shooters, we will be holding a hunting rifle shoot Sunday April 23rd! This month we will try a "Hunter 3 - gun shoot" to mix it up a little. Come prepared for up to 15 Center fire rifle targets along with 10 shorter range .22 rimfire targets and bring a shotgun for 10 clay pigeon targets. http://arizona-rifleshooting.com/hunting-rifle-shoot-PRGC.html This is a chance to shoot hunting rifles (and shotguns) at realistic field distances and positions at life-size animal targets. All this for fun and realistic practice. We will start before 8 with set up and finish early afternoon typically. We typically fire between 30 and 35 shots, the stages are set up with no more than a handful of shots per stage to prevent overheating barrels and a chance to swap out rifles from stage to stage to allow you to practice with multiple rifles. Please arrive early for set up . These shoots are open to all, you don’t need to be a PRGC member! Cost is $10 for members or $15 for non-members. Eye and ear protection required. Feel free to PM me with any questions. WE HOPE YOU ALL WILL COME OUT AND SHOOT WITH US! Thanks! Mike Samer

Hunting with Glocks and non hunting pistols(pics page 2)
Mike S replied to BeardownAZ's topic in Javelina
Any particular preferences in ammo for your .45? I'll out in 37B this weekend with my 1911. Looking for some recommendations for ammo. Otherwise, I was thinking Speer Gold Dot 230's. 230 gold dots should work great. I've killed a half dozen with Winchester 230 black talons with no issues. -
I'd talk to Lester Bruno (Bruno Shooting Supplies). FWIW pinning the lug isn't a big deal.

Met both Cody and Rayne "on the mountain" in my Coues honey hole. They are the real deal and a class act.

Looks like a standard 20" HBAR A2 with flash hider. The float tube is concealed under the factory handguards as required by NRA Service Rifle rules which require the external dimensions/appearance to be as issued. The Colt flat top upper is the 16" HBAR with factory carbine handguards. Hope this helps. Not Tacti-Cool, but dead reliable and accurate

Resizing brass from .284 to .308 safe?
Mike S replied to AZbowhntr's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Generally that should not be a problem but you could always anneal the necks first. Necked up brass can sometimes form a "donut" of thicker brass at the base of the new neck. This can be created if the brass in the sloped shoulder area of the case is thicker than the brass in the neck as small part of the shoulder ends up at the bottom of the new neck. That can be cured by neck turning or reaming if needed. -
It changes every few years but right now it's a 6.5-06 Accurate and good in the wind.

Congrats & well done!

You mention that this was sporterized... is there a new stock on it that does not allow the cutoff lever to rotate all of the way downward past the bolt release middle position?
-
The lever on the side is a magazine cut off which will not allow shells to feed from the magazine when in the on position. Sounds like something may be miss-adjusted there. Derrick should be able to diagnose it easily.
