    Gila Monster footage

Great video. Thanks for posting. That is a good sized one. I've seen a couple of them down south and two in the last year while mountain biking in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve near my house. They can definitely get your attention when they hiss!
  3. Try the Outdoorsmans on Cave Creek Rd. Ordered a rifle through them a few years ago.

    ar-15 break in help

From the action standpoint, keeping it well lubed to start is all you need. With a chrome lined barrel, there is nothing to do. It's surface is so hard that normal break in procedures will not accomplish anything. I have the inside of the action tube greased up on my match rifle to stop the irritating "boing" noise the spring makes. You can do that if the noise bothers you, Have fun with it. Mike

Smith to fix old SxS 12 guage

Murphy's in Tucson is the first place I'd check with, they may not do gunsmithing any more but can probably point you in the right direction. What make is it?

    Hunting pack

+1 on the Mystery Ranch recommendation. Bought their Longbow model last summer and am extremely happy with it.

    Bolt/ammo issue?

Remington extractors have a tendency to take off little chips of case rim which can interfere with proper operation. Before you start replacing parts, go ahead and give the bolt face/extractor area a good scrubbing with solvent and a toothbrush. If you have access to an air compressor blow it dry, even better. Good luck, Mike

O/U Shotgun Setup for Quail --

I always set up with the bottom (first shot) barrel with the more open choke on my 20 gauge. Typically going with skeet & IC for Mearns, IC & modified for early gambels/scalies tightening up later in the season and on windy days.

    southern Az units safety questions?

I think the closed area everyone has been referring to lately is in the southwest corner of 36B. It's been closed for a few years. I am unaware of any closures in 36C.

    Wanted English Setter female puppy

Bob is the pheasant preserve guy I was thinking of. The first time I saw his kennel I thought his setters were HUGE. Maybe it's because my little female was around 40 pounds and his big boned males looked to be 65+. They were good looking dogs, but I would take a real serious look and anything Paul has to offer.

    Wanted English Setter female puppy

A guy from the Cave Creek area named Paul Groger is who I got my last setter from 15 years ago or so. The guy who ran the pheasant preserve out by Pichacho lake also bred them. Try to get in touch with Web Parton, he used to run them. I know none of this is current info but it may be a start. Good luck, great dogs. Mike
  17. Mausers are fine actions and I have an great .257 Roberts that was put together by an ACGG riflesmith on a Czech VZ24 action. That said, they may take a lot of work to get set up for scopes, etc. depending on what you start with. If you can find a commercial FN action from the 50's you would have a good start and you can find those if you spend some time. Sears (JC Higgins?) and others imported those actions for their rifles. If you are looking for a basic, lightweight hunting rifle the 700 action is great as others are telling you, but is no mauser... your opinion may vary. Mike

    SAKO 85 FINNLIGHT .270 WSM

You picked up a fine rifle Mike. I have nothing against Remingtons and have killed a lot of game with my model 700, but if both (factory rifles) were laying on a table and you were told to pick one (for free) I know which one I'd pick...
