What do you guys think about scent control
Curtis Reed replied to couesdeerhntr's topic in The Campfire
Field and Stream conducted a test with a K9 in the July 2011 on the importance of wind. They also did a test in Aug 2009 using the products used for scent control. Mythbusters also did an episode where they tried to fool a drug dog using all the popular products with hunters today. The results? Fail. I don't think we realize just how powerful a deer's sense of smell is. My opinion is that you will never be scent free to a deer, dog, bear, shark, ect... It certainly doesn't hurt to use the stuff (except the pocketbook). It's just my opinion, but I think it is just moneymaker. Those products are paying huge money to the hunters on TV and advertising to push the importance of it. Just play the wind. http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/hunting/2011/07/sniff-test -

What he said -
They are still quality bows, but what turns me off about Matthews is they don't seem to be coming up with new state of the art technology. All the other bow makers like Bowtech, Hoyt and Elite are innovative. Matthews just seems to put out the same bow every year with their diamond shaped riser cutouts and lost camo colors

80 people in North Korea were publicly executed for watching smuggled in copies of western soap operas. Maybe we can send Dennis Rodman over there so he can report back to us what a misunderstood, good guy Kim Jong Un is. Or maybe the people of this country should take notice of what a Communist Regime is capable of. I may be executed in the future for smuggling trans fats and a 32oz soda into NYC... or showing a public display of religious faith.... or sketching a gun on a notepad at work... or driving a truck that gets 14 mpg....or writing this thread....or telling fellow Americans and other countries that the NSA is spying on you (Snowden). If you think it will never happen here, just look at history. It only takes one generation. Americans are too accepting of the tyrannical government of today. When is enough, ENOUGH? The Founding Fathers would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with.

Conservatives aren't any better. They contribute to this mess just as much as the liberals... I used to be a Conservative Republican - not anymore. Now I am a Independent Libertarian. -
Yeah that sucks... are you sure it was stolen and not a bear? I read a recent story on here where someone found a camera that a bear ripped off a tree and got it back to the owner. The owner assumed that it was stolen when it wasnt... My buddy had one stolen (lock was cut). I hate thieves too!

Depending on how much you will be moving, I like to use a good quality Merino wool base layer with a thick fleece top and warm pants over that. If I am going to be sitting a while, I may stick the fleece in my pack and put on my Arctic Shield stuff to stay warm in the mornings.. Of course this is all dependent on weather conditions and activity levels

I have a wall tent and stove, and wanted to come up with a better fuel source for the wood stove... I didnt want to use propane because of the wet heat that it produces. There is nothing like a warm wood fire to dry out your gear. Anyway, since I have an unlimited supply of shredded paper from my job, I started making paper bricks with a brick maker I bought on Amazon. Easy to make, cheap and would be perfect for hunting trips. To make them, you just soak the shreds in water for 2-3 days then put the paper pulp into the press to make the brick. Let the bricks sit out in the AZ sun for 4-5 days and they are good to go. I make a bunch, and then bring them to camp in a huge tupperware tote. Just thought I would share this in case anyone else is sick of hauling bulky firewood. The press was $25 free shipping.

I just got back from a Minnesota bowhunt at our cabin, and I saw an albino whitetail on our property. Happened to have my camera with me... Pretty neat. I always bring a camera into the woods, you never know what you will see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jftZce9gPw&feature=youtu.be

Hey guys - I have hunted the early bowhunt in 23N successfully in the past with an OTC tag, but I have not been out on the late hunt before. I am planning a Jan 2014 week trip up there, and was wondering if there is any difference as far as deer numbers up there? Do they move south due to food sources, or do they stay put all winter? Will early January be a post rut time for the deer up there?? I am planning on hunting out of a stand. Where I hunt, there are whitetail, but I will mostly be into Muleys Thanks
