    Shooting Ranges

There is a range that is free to the public located just south of Casa Grande. It has shade covers and concrete tables with 200 yard and 300 yard berms. It is open 7 days a week from 7am to sundown. Bring your own ammo and targets.
  2. So I am looking at the working person class of binoculars. I have been looking at the Vortex Diamondback 10x42 binoculars and the Leupold Acadia 10x42 binoculars. Both within the same price range (230$). Vortex has an awesome warranty, but I hear Leupold has better glass. Anyone have advice for a newbie with a budget?

Vortex Diamondback Vs. Leupold Acadia Bino

Yall are just confirming my gut feelling about the choice I made. I think I am heading back for the Vortex. My brother in law found a great deal on the Fury 12.5x42 bino so I am thinking on going for them now. Thanks for the input.

Vortex Diamondback Vs. Leupold Acadia Bino

I had the Vortex in hand, then last minute switched to the Leupold as they were on sale. I am considering taking them back, but wanted to get some input.

    Game camera regs

We get in trouble for placing signs on trees for family camping directions. FS came by and told us we could not attach anything to a tree such as nails or screws. This seems to follow the reasoning for taking items attached to trees.

    Something to think about

So when you pass by the other hunters truck, the ones that busted your stand, do you lower the tire pressure on their rig?

    Fire your Congressman...

Ahh the classic racism card. Easy out of any type of conversation. If it makes the guy happy, change the monkeys to sheeple. I saw no amount of racism in the original post, but hey, I disagree with that guys comment, so according to the way society is acting latley, Im a racist. The bums need to go from Washington, oops, sorry to offend the ones who ask for my change at intersections.

    Private land

Depends on the way you access the land. You drive thru private lands on roadways all the time, but these roads have public right of ways. If you are hiking into the backwoods and cross over a fence, you may be trespassing. The property needs to be posted if the private land owner does not want people comming thru. I think the best bet is to contact the land owner before hand and get permission. Dont show up the day of the hunt in camo and ask, as this may scare some land owners. If you take the chance and go for it, just be aware that the land owner can ask you to leave and you must do so quickly. I would make sure you do some research into whether the private area has been posted or not.

    Scratched Up

I picked up the 9mm XD. I was sold when I picked it up and held it, and I like the feel much better than the glocks. Looking back, I wish I had gone with the .40 but am happy with the 16+1 capacity.

    Private land

I second what bradne gave link to. I use that program with my job. Just look throught the selections of layers on the left side panel. About three quarters the way down is the check box for land ownership. You can also go on google and search for the county assessors office. The should have parcel maps or land plats that show ownership. Finally for overkill, look for .kmz files from the county, forest service website. These are great when using google earth, as they are images or lines that overlay the terrain.

    Scratched Up

My XD is doing the same thing, see pic. I love this pistol, and don't mind the scuffs. I wouldn't mind getting it blued or restored later on.

    Unit 27, 28 Advice

First timer out in the field. My brother in-law and myself are complete newbs to the hunt and area. From what I have read here, glassing is the key to any area. Hiking a mile or two is a plus also. Has anyone hunted these units that would have advice for first timers? I think we are in this as a learning hunt, and not looking for the monsters....yet. Are there any locals here from these units?

    Concealed Weapon Law

No, I dont think there will be a spike in sales due to the law. My intent on the article was to show that it allows one to carry on national parks grounds. I think in general, Arizona has a great population of people who know how to handle a weapon. It is the part of the population that knows nothing about them that the media focusses on to promote their view. I took a ccw class a few years ago, and learned the real point of conceal carry. The instructor offered his opinon on the "gang" or "robbery" scenario, watch and report. I hope I never come to the need to use what I carry, but it is comforting to me to know if it does come to that, I am ready.

    Unit 27, 28 Advice

The fire by maple peak was in 2003, giving the area 7 years to grow. How much time after a fire does the habitat need to allow deer and elk back in to survive? I have heard that fire areas after some time offer great cover to hide and bed down in when the regrowth comes back in. Strayhorsecamping area is on our scouting list for the first of scouting trips. What type of camo is good within this elevation?

    Concealed Weapon Law

I want to say they passed a bill that you were able to carry in the national parks. According to this article. http://abcnews.go.com/Travel/guns-national...tory?id=9910171

    Glassing setup

I have been working on a budget for the fall hunt. I want to have a way to spend alot of time glassing, and came up with this setup. It is a lightweight camera tripod with Coolidge-made mount. What are some other setups that people have been using that works?

    Concealed Weapon Law

It is nice to carry the pistol in the car under the seat or on my person concealed without permit. I do not worry about those familiar with weapons, but rather those that are not, and don't know the ramifications or legal aspects of what happens to that fired round. I hope those that are new to conceal carry would consider training rather than just carrying for the novelty of it.

    Glassing setup

oz31p, nice setup. I may go that way and ditch the wimpy head the tripod came with. I will get a better rig someday, and will make due with what I have. Amanda, I am looking at getting the velcro adapter for this small setup. Good ideas, and great photos of what is being used.

    Downtown Phoenix Circus!

So did you say hi to the future voters for Obama's next election? They need to be given rights as soon as possible so he can stay in power to destroy whats left of the constitution. If I were to go and place my sign in favor of the law, and my Arizona flag waving, I would be labled a racist. I want the ability to hunt in the southern part of the state were I live without fear of comming across a mule train of drugs and smuggling. I have your six anytime and anywere.

    Glassing setup

Thanks Amanda. I need to look at getting better binoculars and tripod too. The tripod head you have fits the tripods that are offered on the site, but will it fit the small tripod I currently have? What size stud does it attach to?
